This really really annoys me......

Why do people have to spoke under a bus shelter??

I dont smoke, it's a disgusting habit and Frankly, I don't want to smell of it.

If I were a smoker I would have the decency to smoke away from the bus shelter

Definitely a letterbox moment. With a ring piece or two thrown in.

bealos · 13/10/2014 22:48

YANBU it's gross and I can't believe people don't realise how anti-social they are being

lurkernowposter · 13/10/2014 22:55

YABU Dirty, smelly buses, spewing filthy diesel fumes into the air, full of cancer causing particulates! You should be ashamed of yourself traveling by bus and the smell stops me enjoying my fag while I'm sat in my car.

OwlCapone · 14/10/2014 07:05

while I'm sat in my car.

The car that is also spewing filthy fumes into the air Wink

Lweji · 14/10/2014 07:40

I think that had been tongue in cheek.

OwlCapone · 14/10/2014 07:55

Really?

If only I'd realised that I could have put a wink after my comment to indicate I wasn't serious... Oh, hang on... Wink

TantrumsAndBalloons · 14/10/2014 08:07

Sorry but I am confused by the horror of people who smoke taking their children to sports as mentioned up thread.

Are the children of smokers somehow prohibited from playing any sport? Did I miss that memo?

I vape in bus shelters. I know people are glaring at me but sadly no one has ever said anything...I wish they would.

chillyourboots · 14/10/2014 09:12

I always say something... always!!!!

chillyourboots · 14/10/2014 09:13

The most amusing comment that came back was

'i don't talk English'

Said in perfect English......

No, but I'd expect parents of children doing sports to refrain from throwing smoke at other parents.
Presumably they don't subject their children to their smoke.

MiuChoos · 14/10/2014 12:12

YABVU you will not smell of smoke and this seems to be your main problem

Unless you're not a smoker, you have NO idea how untrue this statement is. You only have to be stood next to someone smoking for 5 minutes to have the stench clinging to you. I have long hair and it absolutely stinks of smoke if I'm around smokers. You get home, away from all the smoke, and you can SMELL it and it stays there until it's washed.
Smokers seriously have no idea how much the smoke stinks as they're immune to it. You can tell who are smokers and who aren't in a bus queue even if they haven't got a fag anywhere near their lips. They smell of old smoke. Seriously.

Gosh Plenty how very dare we post our views on this thread.

Perhaps the fact that certain words are used over and over eg 'selfish' 'annoying' 'inconsiderate' might give you some food for thought on this issue.

Hello! We have a petition calling for a ban in smoking at all London bus shelters which you can sign here: bit.ly/tflsmoke

You see, the English public smoking ban doesn't extend to bus shelters that aren't more than half enclosed i.e. most bus shelters in London. TfL can however ban smoking (despite what they've said previously in the Press on this) and put up 'No Smoking' signs in all London bus shelters. In other cities with smoking bans covering all bus shelters, you can point to the No Smoking sign - and I know from personal experience that they do work, and people do move away or stop smoking when they see it's banned.

It's also easier to ask someone to put out a ciggie (and so waste their money!) if it's clearly banned, than feeling bad for asking someone to put it out because it's affecting your lungs or your kids' lungs. I know I've hesitated and not asked because I didn't want to have someone waste their lit cig or roll-up just because of my lungs.

We're calling for a ban under the roof itself, so it's simple and clear where smoking is banned. Elderly people for example often sit on the benches under the roof, and they are more likely to have asthma that may be triggered by second hand smoke. I know air pollution is a huge problem that also needs tackling in London - but we're trying to make a small, manageable change one step at a time. Every little bit helps, yeah?

Hopefully we can get smoking banned at bus shelters in London. It looks like some posters here might be interested in signing - if so, please head over to: bit.ly/tflsmoke

I understand not everyone will feel this is the right approach. Nonetheless, thanks for reading!
