PepsiTwirl · 13/10/2014 06:37

This really really annoys me......

Why do people have to spoke under a bus shelter??

I dont smoke, it's a disgusting habit and Frankly, I don't want to smell of it.

If I were a smoker I would have the decency to smoke away from the bus shelter

I never knew that some bus shelters are smoking and some none smoking, what is the difference? Aren't they both in the open air?
I really don't see the problem tbh.
Yes, its common courtesy not to smoke where there are children, but there is no harm in a bus shelter, nobody complains in ours anyway.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 13/10/2014 14:48

I think gamerchick and 3leetlekittens are just trying to wind people up. They have no proper arguments against the points made. We know what a dirty, filthy habit it is. We also know how much they (the smokers) stink. We can only but feel sorry for their ibability to comprehend the facts.

'My ears hurt, I'm sesitive to noise, kids screaming'. - well, unfortunately for you kittens there us no law against screaming kids, so tough Smile

Ah, gamer I regret to inform you that yes, smoking is illegal in certain places. Should you care to read the signs and notuces placed for everyone's benefit you would know this.

Vintagejazz · 13/10/2014 14:48

I think if a crowd of people are standing under a bus shelter on a wet day and someone squashes in and lights up a cigarette, blowing smoke all over everyone it's bloody rude.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 13/10/2014 14:49

Oh, and if it rains and you want a fag, use an umbrella, it keeps you just as dry as a bus shelter but doesn't damage people's lungs or indeed makes them smell as bad as you!

Aeroflotgirl · 13/10/2014 14:52

I don't mind tbh. I am a non smoker, it outside and the smoke will be blown away by tge wind anyway. There are bigger things to worry about!

morethanpotatoprints · 13/10/2014 14:53

Baaaaa.

Dirty? Filthy? Baaaaa Grin

We can only but feel sorry for your inability to use the above words according to definition.
Maybe if you had a tab once in a while you wouldn't be so up yourself uptight

OOAOML · 13/10/2014 14:55

I never knew that some bus shelters are smoking and some none smoking, what is the difference? Aren't they both in the open air?

Some designs are more open than others - I think it is the more enclosed ones that it is illegal to smoke in. There are some in the centre of town that are like a big Perspex tunnel with an opening at each end - not very open air at all. There are others that are frankly useless as a shelter as they are so open air, and rain here tends to be driven by the wind so fails to fall neatly on the roof on the shelter.

cuphat · 13/10/2014 14:59

Shelters here are enclosed and air doesn't flow through. I was in one with my newborn baby in a pram when someone came in and started smoking, despite there being stickers saying it's illegal. It's extremely selfish.

morethanpotatoprints · 13/10/2014 15:08

I see what you mean, there are obviously lots of different types.
We have walkways under cover in town centre with lots of no smoking signs up, people still smoke under them.
I don't do it but this is because they are enclosed and it isn't fair to others.
There is nothing wrong with smoking under other shelters in the open air though.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 13/10/2014 15:09

morethanpotatoprints

Hahahaha!

Dirty: spreading pollution (check)

Filthy: vile (check), nasty (check), extremely unpleasant (check)

Perhaps YOU need to know the definitions? They can be found in dictionaries Smile

MarchEliza · 13/10/2014 15:09

As someone who used to smoke like a chimney (not for a few years now I'm pleased to say) - I can confirm - we have no idea how bad we smell!

Before I gave up, smoking had gone from being the 'cool' thing that practically everyone did in the 90s, to a fast-track to social pariah-ship. By 2010 I did feel that there was nowhere I could go to smoke without someone being annoyed.

However - smoking in an enclosed bus shelter, apart from being actually illegal, is clearly deeply inconsiderate. Why should you drive everyone else out that doesn't want to smell/breath in your second hand smoke just because you fancy a sit down and a smoke??

The other day I got to the bus stop and there were several elderly people stood under umbrellas outside the bus stop along with a mum with her pushchair. Inside - one person sat alone on the bench - smoking away having driven everyone else out.

Lweji · 13/10/2014 15:11

There is nothing wrong with smoking under other shelters in the open air though.

It's legal, but I still can see a lot wrong. Two different things.

Most smokers I notice aren't actually breathing smoke from their own cigarettes. They hold them and let the smoke stream onto someone else, while they stand well away from it.

morethanpotatoprints · 13/10/2014 15:13

Baaaaa

No don't see it sorry. You are applying your own opinion to make it fit the description.
I'm pretty sure that smoking produces a minute fraction of the pollution caused by the buses. So by your definition buses are dirty.

Nasty is open to interpretation, many people don't find smoking nasty or vile.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/10/2014 15:14

I don't know why small ladders can't be provided to facilitate smoking ON the shelters.

Maybe with another roof on top? Yes; Double decker shelters with smoking upstairs.

Surely noone will insist smoke drifts downwards

Lweji · 13/10/2014 15:16

So by your definition buses are dirty.

Yes they are. Sometimes I inhale their smoke if I go behind them, or before boarding, and hate it. But usually they don't sit next to me blowing smoke on the bus shelter.
Some buses don't run on petrol, though.

Lweji · 13/10/2014 15:17

I like your idea, Arsenic. :)
Although smokers could also go behind shelters.
Or stop smoking. Or smoke at home.

Poopooweewee · 13/10/2014 15:17

'move if you don't like it'.

So if I'm standing in under a bus shelter, as an asthmatic, sheltering from the rain, and you come along and stand under the shelter and spark up a fag, I should move and stand in the rain? Yeah right, that's really going to happen Wink. I'm not a violent person, but if you refused to move, I would take your fag out of your gob and snap it in half.

HTH

Now, do run along and let the grown-ups carry on their conversation.

You are obviously a wum and I shall not be responding to any of your inane comments.

morethanpotatoprints · 13/10/2014 15:39

Poop
I'd like to see you do that round here you'd get decked Grin
Oh, you don't do that, they cost too much and people are violent round here.
I used to be an asthmatic too, strangely enough it didn't bother me at all.

morethanpotatoprints · 13/10/2014 15:44

Poop

It really didn't bother me at all, didn't mean to sound arsy, my triggers were dust, animals, gas fires and long haired dogs together Sad

hazeyjane · 13/10/2014 16:03

These are the type of shelters by our hospital, and it definitely gets really cloudy with smoke if a smoker is under there.

All jokiness aside, it is honestly pretty grim when you have a child with respiratory problems stuck under a shelter with someone smoking next to them.

To HATE people that smoke under bus shelters
Lweji · 13/10/2014 16:04

If someone smokes near me, they'll have to put up with my coughing. Fair trade.

ArabellaTarantella · 13/10/2014 16:11

Ooh I just luuuuurve a froffy fred on a Monday - makes my week.

The world will never be perfect for everyone.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/10/2014 16:42

You are obviously a wum and I shall not be responding to any of your inane comments.

While you are brandishing a dictionary around, can you explain what a 'wum' is? Confused
