To HATE people that smoke under bus shelters

PepsiTwirl · 13/10/2014 06:37

This really really annoys me......

Why do people have to spoke under a bus shelter??

I dont smoke, it's a disgusting habit and Frankly, I don't want to smell of it.

If I were a smoker I would have the decency to smoke away from the bus shelter

Angry Angry Angry Angry

Why do they have to stand 50 ft away? Just outside the shelter would be nice, so that the smoke isn't inside the shelter (and in my case, not because I don't want to smell it, but because it is being breathed all over ds, in his buggy)

Pistone · 13/10/2014 13:39

I gave up smoking 5 years ago and it's the best thing I ever did but there seems to be a lot of intolerance towards smokers which I think is unfair and unjustified. The massively rich tobacco companies should be the target of people's wrath. It's well known that they purposely add the addictive poisons to make it very hard for people to give up. What other product would be allowed on the market that was known to be full of such harmful poisons. £12.3 billion a year in tax going into the government coffers is why. No wonder they're still legal.

BlueberryWafer · 13/10/2014 13:41

There are some absolutely disgusting attitudes on this thread. Just stand outside the bus shelter to smoke for goodness sake. When I used to smoke I always stood away from non smokers, especially children - it's called being considerate! I find it baffling that people can show such disregard for the health of others by smoking in such close proximity in an area where it is actually against the law!

Poopooweewee · 13/10/2014 13:50

YANBU.

I'm asthmatic and second hand smoke is a huge trigger for attacks (way worse than car fumes, which, although unpleasant don't trigger attacks, for me, anyway) and therefore if you stand next to me and breathe your second hand smoke over me or near to me, I will of course ask you to move.

ApocalypseThen · 13/10/2014 13:51

It's well known that they purposely add the addictive poisons to make it very hard for people to give up

Less well known is that you never have to try it.

chillyourboots · 13/10/2014 13:59

morethanpotatochips

Ofcourse u smell of smoke if someone stands that close to you.
The smell sticks to your clothing.

It's disgusting!

Oh the poor smokers that have to stand outside in the cold...

No one asked you to start smoking, just because you started a disgusting cancer ridden HABIT, doesn't mean everyone else has to be exposed to your second hand smoke!!!!!!

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/10/2014 14:02

chillyourboots, chill your boots Smile

gamerchick · 13/10/2014 14:02

See its fascinating.. proper spitting venom and everything.

Not many topics people can do that now Grin

3LeetleKeettens · 13/10/2014 14:04

Smokers aren't criminals. Stop talking about them like they are

hazeyjane · 13/10/2014 14:06

No spitting venom here, and of course smokers aren't criminals, just a request for a bit of consideration.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/10/2014 14:07

It is like fight-in-a-tin gamer Grin

YADNU and I find myself wanting to tell thump kill them off.

Lweji · 13/10/2014 14:12

Also people who go and sit next to you when you're watching your kid's football practice and light up. Angry

I am gobsmacked at the number of people who take their kids to sports and smoke.

gamerchick · 13/10/2014 14:22

Nah just how you're choosing to read them. This thread has made me chuckle.

Smoking is legal.. It brings in a lot of money so will never be made illegal. If people want to stand in fresh air and smoke then they can crack on. But the nastiness that is aimed towards smokers these days is not on. If you don't like something then move away.

Pistone · 13/10/2014 14:22

No one asked you to start smoking.......well in my case that is exactly how I started. In the works canteen when I'd just left school, fags were for sale individually for a few pence each. My new friend nagged me constantly to give them a try, I'd like them etc. So started a lifetimes addiction. Looking back I see now why she did it, smokers don't like to be the only one smoking, they like others to smoke with them....(though I can honestly say I was never responsible for getting anyone else to start) that is why when I gave up some people would often try to tempt me to "go on, one won't harm you". It can be very hard to resist when you're young if others are encouraging you. Of course now there's less excuse for anyone starting in the first place with all the anti smoking campaigns etc, but I can sympathise with smokers, most of them hate it but find it so hard to give up. But of course they should always respect non smokers rights to breathing in clear air.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 13/10/2014 14:25

YANBU!

Health worries aside (I'm not concerned that I'll get cancer from second hand smoke at a bus stop), it's the smell that's revolting. If someone stands next to you smoking then your clothes and hair smell just as bad as theirs.

Would it be ok if I went around randomly spritzing people with a perfume of my choice? Course it bloody wouldn't.

Smokers should have the consideration to move as far away as possible from others while they're smoking.

hazeyjane · 13/10/2014 14:28

if you don't like something then move away

And all I am saying is, if you want to choose to smoke a cigarette, then do it outside of the shelter. If it is raining or cold and windy, then why should someone like ds have to put up with someone's cigarette smoke or sit outside of the shelter?

ArcheryAnnie · 13/10/2014 14:30

YANBU. If it's raining, then you are stuck next to them. They ignore that they are puffing away in kids' faces, too.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 13/10/2014 14:31

GamerChick - "If people want to stand in fresh air and smoke then they can crack on. But the nastiness that is aimed towards smokers these days is not on. If you don't like something then move away."

What a selfish attitude. It's your stinky habit. It's you causing the problem. You really think other people should have to move because of you?

I certainly won't choose to sit next to a smoker if that person is already smoking.

Conversely, I'd expect that a person who smokes at least asks if it's ok to smoke near me if they come and sit next to me, or if they light up after I arrive.
Just courtesy.

In the same way that I won't put my MP3 playing loudly if there are other people around who may not want to listen to my music.

jacks365 · 13/10/2014 14:34

Gamer most people on the thread are talking about smokers who are smoking where it is illegal to do so. If someone wants to smoke where it is legal to do so then fine, in my area some bus shelters are smoking some are non smoking I would never complain about someone smoking in one where it is allowed but I will if they do in one where it isn't.

Vintagejazz · 13/10/2014 14:39

Gamerchick you really are reinforcing the stereotype of the totally selfish and obnoxious smoker who doesn't give a damn. Unfair on the many smokers who do understand the impact of their smoking on other people, and try to be as considerate as possible. (Or to confuse wit and a sense of fun with childish sneering).

Vintagejazz · 13/10/2014 14:41

I meant (who don't confuse wit and a sense of fun with childish sneering).
