They have let this country down so badly. And now we all have to reap what they've sown.

Ukip are not now just the natural home of some older white middle class group they are making significant inroads into traditional white working class labour strongholds.

Why?

Because concerns on mass immigration, lack of housing, bursting schools, no screening of EU citizens, so noone has a clue who is actually here, not able to get GP appointments. Etc.

It's all fine and dandy for half the middle class professional posters on mumsnet. Lots can afford private health care and private education.

You see hypocrites like Diane Abbott sending her kid to a private school.

We have lost the good traditional labour values and politicians like the once left wing Neil kinnock who now incidentally is filling his face at the trough of the EU gravy train. And he didn't want to join originally in the 70s.

Look at the Tories.

How on earth can Cameron etc have a fucking clue about working people Eton educated. No idea.

Ed balls and Ed Milliband absolute joke. They know it too

People are fed up and feel UKIP will listen to them

We have a huge problem.

Numanoid · 10/10/2014 09:46

I don't fall into that category. I certainly couldn't afford private healthcare and education. Still never considered voting UKIP, and I never will.
I realise some people see voting for them as a protest vote, but there are better alternatives. If I was living in another part of the UK I would definitely vote Green.

claig · 10/10/2014 09:48

'I want a government that will tackle the deficit so my kids aren't paying for it in 40 years time, reduce inequality (by raising low wages and having a sensible benefits system), keep the NHS, tighten up on tax avoidance by large firms, deal with the West Lothian Question, move away from carbon-based energy, and keep an eye on our borders. That's just a start. Can anybody out there suggest who I might vote for?'

That is UKIP apart from "move away from carbon-based energy"

gordyslovesheep · 10/10/2014 09:49

the body - are ALL of those problems solely due to EU migration? not cuts in services or development of new private housing (which in my area has increased pressure on services)

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 10/10/2014 09:50

Rather than criticise UKIP which people hate as it's negative campaigning the main parties need to start actually addressing people's concerns.

However you can't alter the actual fact that as we have allied ourselves so completely with Europe we can't actually do that within the EU.

Can I stress this isn't my opinion, I hate UKIP but this is what a lot of peiple I talk to and work with say.

Look at the fb Britain first campaign!

These people will vote.

I tell you next may it will be a Tory/UKIP coalition. I honestly believe that.

gordyslovesheep · 10/10/2014 09:50

oh and my GP's practice is staffed by Doctors who are descended from 'immigrants' thank goodness for them!

daisiesandpoppies · 10/10/2014 09:50

It isn't just a protest vote.

People do not want to be a part of Europe. People are being forced to send DCs to schools miles away and can't get an appointment with a GP.

Facts and stats matter little compared to what people can actually see. People can hear and see an influx of Eastern Europeans, and people know we are overcrowded.

It doesn't matter that X amount of Brits live in Spain when it's your child who can't get in the local primary school.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 09:52

so much easier for those in power to allow the idea that immigration is to blame to spread, rather than to actually look at their own actions have caused these problems

cricketpitch · 10/10/2014 09:53

I too am in despair and have no idea who to vote for. One of the problems as I see it is the whole party system.

I have never voted Tory, ever, BUT I have a Conservative MP. Hate the Tories in government and was really disappointed when XX was elected as our MP BUT he is actually very good locally. I have written to him on four or five issues and have always received a good response. He consults, he runs surgeries, he acts, he votes in Parliament with our interests in mind... So, what do I do next time? Vote for him again, (Tory). Vote for someone else - Labour will not and never have got in here - or not vote at all?

claig · 10/10/2014 09:56

'so much easier for those in power to allow the idea that immigration is to blame to spread, rather than to actually look at their own actions have caused these problems'

They allowed open door immigration to all the EU countries. They can't do anything about it, they can't stop it, they are powerless because they are not in charge. That is what is wrong and UKIP want to regain the power for the country to decide its own policies rather than have them dictated by an unelected unaccountable bureaucracy in Brussels.

HampshireBoy · 10/10/2014 09:56

What a lot of people can't see is that it is the lower income working classes that have suffered the most from immigration, keeping down wages and clustering in low cost areas so causing housing shortages. So the media anti UKIP headlines might be about white middle class people but the reality is that they are not the main group of voters that UKIP target.

Like all parties that know they are not going to win a majority they can promise all sorts of things knowing they will not need to deliver, but they will win votes in this way; see the lib-dems for the last twenty years or so.

The main parties have screwed up big time, immigration is just one of the areas. In France for example, if you cannot read, write of speak French YOU pay for the translation; in this country all public bodies have to pay for translators and every pamphlet to be available in umpteen languages. Surely we should be able to find some middle ground, but UKIP can exploit the "look how much this costs the British taxpayer" mantra.

I don't think UKIP are a racist party, however like all the parties they do have racist members.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 10/10/2014 09:56

No of course they are not gordy but UKIP are running a slick campaign. When in dought Blame the immigrants and let's face it mass immigration hasn't helped.
It plays into the hands of racists.

numanoid no neither can I but seriously do you really think that the vast majority if posters in here have kids at failing schools and live on housing benefit?

The labour front bench don't either.

The Tories couldn't give a fuck and never do. Eton has extended to the cabinet office.

Remember Gordon's racist comments to that lady's concerns?

Lost him the election.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 09:58

claig, i have no problem with open door immigration to all EU countries, and i'm pro ECHR and many other things created by brussels

we aren't going to agree

claig · 10/10/2014 09:58

'I have never voted Tory, ever, BUT I have a Conservative MP'

UKIP will change this because they will scrap our unrepresentative FPTP voting system. They will bring in proportioanal representation so that for once your vote will actualy count and you can vote for the party you like rather than the one who will win.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 10/10/2014 09:58

Radical right/left parties get votes when the main parties fail to listen and are weak.

Tories don't listen/care and labour are weak.

hollowhallows · 10/10/2014 09:59

What about the Respect Party? I love George Galloway.

angelos02 · 10/10/2014 09:59

we already HAVE an 'Australian style' system of immigration by the way

Erm...no we don't. Anyone from the EU can come in. And the number of non-EU people I see working in non-essential roles seems pretty high to me too.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 10:00

ukip don't give a shit about working class white people. they target them for votes, but their "manifesto" and "policies" will in reality translate to more money and power for rich white men. plus ca change etc

it's nothing new

claig · 10/10/2014 10:00

'claig, i have no problem with open door immigration to all EU countries, and i'm pro ECHR and many other things created by brussels'

That's fine, then UKIP is not for you. But millions of people in this country don't agree with you. The voters of Clacton don't agree with you and they voted UKIP in a democratic election.

When UKIP eventually scrap FPTP, the country will become even more democratic and every single person's vote will count wherever they live in the country.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 10:01

nope, it's just more power for rich white men. that's all it will mean in the end.

hollowhallows · 10/10/2014 10:04

If UKIP ever got in, next Christmas we'd all be living in A Christmas Carol and we'd be finding out that Farage is actually Scrooge.

MindReader · 10/10/2014 10:05

UKIP will do VERY well next year, but not well enough to rule alone.

See what happened in Scotland re the Referendum.

Tories are evil, Labour wont win with Ed in charge, LibDems are hopelessly weak.

It will be a UKIP/Tory coalition which will make the 55% of Scotland who voted NO to devolution possibly wishing they hadn't.

I voted NO by the way, but I don't want to be ruled by UKIP/Tories.
The alternative for me was an out of control SNP cart and horse and to break up the UK which I didn't want either.

It's a huge mess Sad But there are still the 'golden few' at the top profiting like mad.
My eldest is just 10 and beginning to be really interested in politics.
The look on his face as he realises 'how the world works' is pretty sad Sad

claig · 10/10/2014 10:05

'nope, it's just more power for rich white men.'

That is what it is now, where they can ignre the voters in an electoral system where it doesn't matter who you vote for if you live in a safe seat. Elections are only decided by those lucky enough to live in marginals.

A rich white man, former Tory MP Michael Parris, said on Radio 4 today that the voters in Claction are "wrong".

He is wrong, UKIP will bring in PR and then everybody's vote will count and the rich white men will no longer be able to ignore the wishes of ordinary people.

daisiesandpoppies · 10/10/2014 10:05

Thebody - do you mind my asking you if you are against us being part of the EU?

Im asking because you seem one of the few articulate people able to explain why UKIP are gaining power :)

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 10:07

nothing will change with UKIP, ultimately it's just same old same old

i assume matthew parris
