By Samaritan's Purse

I know I'm not the only one

who else have they decided to silence?

It's quite interesting that they dislike criticism so much

Oh heck. My kids have actually got that booklet! I had no idea that was the one OCC used! But rather different circs as they got it at a church-run, bible-themed holiday club. Another time they were given copies of Luke's gospel.
Now, what I am concerned about with OCC is the apparent lack of respect for other cultures and religions, and the blatant use of freely given gifts from members of the public, as a covert means of them giving out these books. The gifts should just be given, no strings attached IMHO.

wantacatplease · 09/10/2014 20:42

Strange how in the run up to Christmas and presumably the busiest time for certain appeals to be launched, the head of operations seems to have so much time on their hands. In my opinion. It seems. Allegedly.

Chippednailvarnish · 09/10/2014 20:42

I am so disappointed (allegedly).

I've never been a fan of SP, but my view softened slightly when I heard that the first American who contracted Ebola was a doctor treating people in Africa whilst working for SP.

Then I read something like this and my instant reaction is what a waste of people's donations, to spend the time and money pursuing posters like Gordy.

What would Jesus do? He wouldn't do this (in my opinion).

Rowan, why does the defamation act require you to ask for posters details whether or not they are passed on to the complainant body? I presume you store them, but how, and to what end?

Bambambini · 09/10/2014 20:43

This has reminded me to raise the topic again with my children's school. I did last year though it was too late to switch charities. Glad this came up and reminded me to have a word (with certain pages from OCC website, related articles) again this year before they and anything out. Cheers OCC for reminding me.

This is a tough issue. We can't have it both ways - we can't allow a society where anything can be posted anonymously online without being able to challenge it and for the perpetrators to be able to hide behind privacy. Likewise we have to defend the right to free speech and to out organisations that would attack those for shining a light on it. My recommendation - contact private eye - they'd love this! It's a horrid balancing act but the court of public opinion would do them a lot more damage than mumsnet.

MmeLindor · 09/10/2014 20:49

Posting in support. I've been rather vocal about SP and Operation Christmas Child, and have in fact blogged about it - I'm off to check my blog to make sure there isn't anything that could get me sued!

I would very much like if MNHQ could vocally defend the rights of their users to speak their minds. I understand your need to protect your business from damaging lawsuits, but think that public opinion would be on your side. I am guessing that they have to check with lawyers first, and that we will have to be patient and wait for them to come back to us.

Bambambini · 09/10/2014 20:49

And my problem with them is that the parents at the school really have no clue what their agenda is and what kind of organisation they are - to say nothing of who heads them up. It's all vague and quite sneaky (IMO). I think the schools should be duty bound to give the parents more information, considering Graham uses funds that people donate to legislate against gay marriage and anti abortion laws, (or so I heard, allegedly).

SolidGoldBrass · 09/10/2014 20:50

I suggest that everyone gets this all over social media, with as much mockery ofSP as possible.
Hopefully it will be several more steps along the way to getting this bunch of vicious, bigoted SCAMMERS shut down for good.

maddening · 09/10/2014 20:55

What sort of action are they threatening? Are they threatening mumsnet or the posters? What are the consequences of accepting the possibility of a court order?
