To have genuinely thought Center Parcs was enclosed in a giant bubble?

I am at a stage in my life where Center Parcs may be just the thing. But I had this idea that it was all under a giant (and yes it would have to be bloody ginormous) bubble, a la Eden Project.

I do not mean "metaphorical bubble of getting away from it all".

Was there some kind of advertising at some point that gave me this idea? DP thinks I'm barmy.

No, I thought it covered the whole forest. Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 06/10/2014 13:14

Wait. The Millenium dome isn't glass?

PetulaGordino · 06/10/2014 13:17

fibreglass i think? will have to google

PetulaGordino · 06/10/2014 13:19

glass would be more like the roof of the atrium in the british museum. i don't think glass alone would be able to span such a space as the millennium dome, but my understanding of the properties of these materials is limited at best

pearpotter · 06/10/2014 13:21

I did as well, though I knew before this thread as I know someone who has been and said it wasn't in a bubble!

mmgirish · 06/10/2014 13:31

I thought so too!

Simile · 06/10/2014 13:47

Now there's a revelation! I also wondered if Stephen King had been inspired by Centre Parcs for "Under the Dome". Grin

DH thinks it's all under a dome too 'it doesn't matter if it rains because it's all inside isn't it'. Cue me shrieking 'it's not all inside!'

PhaedraIsMyName · 06/10/2014 14:29

I don't think that was the bubble everyone is imagining that covers the whole centre. forest, chalet and all - that was some of the restaurants and the swimming pool

No I can assure you I thought the whole thing was covered (with or without robot ducks who, following the West World analogy can turn bad)

West World is a great film.

Ifnotnow

I am loving the 'meeting place' marked on your Channel Tunnel map.

Is that like meeting under the clock at Victoria Station if you get lost? Grin

LightastheBreeze · 06/10/2014 15:15

I really did think it was all covered, what with, I hadn't really given it much thought. I thought the woods and footpaths were all within this covered place. If not, why is it so expensive, its no different to Butlins or some of the bigger Haven places. You can go for walks and cycle in lots of woods and not have to pay, are they special clean woods and cycleways.

HoldenMcGroin · 06/10/2014 15:39

Yep another one who thought it was giant bubble land here

Blush
PoirotsMoustache · 06/10/2014 15:55

Well, yes, whatsthatcomingoverthehill, it would be an incredible feat of engineering when you think about it. But I personally didn't think about the size of the thing, I just accepted the image on the telly! Grin

ohmymimi · 06/10/2014 16:03

Glad it's not just me that had the 'bubble/dome' misconception. I thought it was an Eden Project type dome, with a climate controlled environment within. So sad my CentreParcs bubble has been burst. Not that I ever planned to stay there

MsJupiter · 06/10/2014 16:05

I wonder if MN also tweeted CP about the bumsex.

ohmymimi · 06/10/2014 16:10

Anyway, I've seen 'Silent Running', so didn't think it was such a daft concept.Blush Actually, I didn't think about it, I'll stop digging now

WoTmania · 06/10/2014 20:35

YANBU - we went to the one near nottingham when I was about 14 and I was most disappointed that it wasn't all under a dome. Clearly dodgy advertising Wink

belgina · 06/10/2014 20:54

Having been to Haven, I can honestly say CP is bigger & better. The chalets are proper little houses, not a static caravan in sight. The pool is much bigger and you have this whole lovely tropical restaurant/shopping area.
I grew up in the 80's and never thought it was all in a bubble. That would be impossible, surely?! Hmm

BertieBotts · 06/10/2014 20:55

I don't think MN was on twitter when the CP bumsex thread happened.

The meeting place is very close to the French side, isn't it? Lazy sods letting us do all the work Grin

carlywurly · 06/10/2014 21:08

I remember thinking that about center parcs.

Eden I do know about - There are two biomes set at different temperatures - they're large but they don't encompass the whole site by a long stretch and a lot is properly outdoors or under separate cover.

Eden is definitely worth a visit - it's come on a treat from when it first opened. They're good on the themed events over school holidays too. Smile

SaggyAndLucy · 06/10/2014 21:11

We used to go when I was a kid. We went to Sherwood and Elveden which both had the pool/shops/restaurants under the dome.
It was a warm, exciting, luxurious place to go on holiday in the UK in December.
sadly it is also a breeding ground for bacteria, all warm and moist and climate controlled. We all came home with chest infections every year!!!

gstar69 · 06/10/2014 21:18

Everything under one roof! I think your getting confused with toys r us. This thread is almost as hilarious as the dunk cup x

FortyFacedFuckers · 06/10/2014 21:33

I can't believe its not all under a dome!! Shock
