To have genuinely thought Center Parcs was enclosed in a giant bubble?

I am at a stage in my life where Center Parcs may be just the thing. But I had this idea that it was all under a giant (and yes it would have to be bloody ginormous) bubble, a la Eden Project.

I do not mean "metaphorical bubble of getting away from it all".

Was there some kind of advertising at some point that gave me this idea? DP thinks I'm barmy.

I think it's a train in a tunnel? After this Center Parcs revelation I don't bloody know anything anymore!

I also thought it was under a dome!

Philoslothy · 05/10/2014 16:46

I thought it was all one big bubble packed with middle class types, as I would never go this illusion would have stayed with me for life.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 05/10/2014 16:50

Very disappointed :-(

thegreylady · 05/10/2014 16:51

I was sure it was almost entirely under a dome and thought that would be great given our weather!

IfNotNowThenWhen · 05/10/2014 16:51

It is a tunnell under the sea. There is the passenger train (Eurostar) and a frieght train which transports cars.

Lol at Silent Running! We used to go when Elvenden had the dome in the eighties. Really hot in the pool area, supermarket, little stream with ducks on the way to the shops and pizza place (all under the dome), but then there was a massive shock when you went out into the freezing night air, had to unlock your bikes and cycle for miles through the damn forest with wet hair to get back to your chalet. Never came home without a cold.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 05/10/2014 16:52

Oh my goodness I thought so too. This is a revelation! Hilarious!

I always imagined a palm-fringed utopia under the bubble, away from the smog and grime of everyday life. Clever advertising!

thegreylady · 05/10/2014 16:53

Where the heck is the channel tunnel then if it's not on the seabed?

IfNotNowThenWhen · 05/10/2014 16:53

I think I might be getting Silent Running mixed up with Soilent Green?

PetulaGordino · 05/10/2014 16:57

Lol at silent running

plantsitter · 05/10/2014 16:58

I really thought centerparcs was all under a dome! Doesn't really make sense when you think about it but I hadn't really thought about it (might be more inclined now I know it's not... When they halve the price anyway).

AlpacaYourThings · 05/10/2014 16:59

Grin I was also thinking of the Simpsons movie

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 05/10/2014 17:02

I also have read the Stephen King book called Under the Dome on DH's recommendation, and when he gave it to me I said 'oh, like centre parcs?'

MrsToddsShortcut · 05/10/2014 17:02

So if I go to CP tomorrow, will there be a dome? Of any description at all? Do these domes actually exist in the present day, or is it just a mass hallucination brought on by excessive wish fulfilment on account of some old 80's ads?

Because if there are no domes, I don't want to go.

BrianButterfield · 05/10/2014 17:08

DH thought it was all under a dome until the moment we checked in! He couldn't work out why you couldn't see it from the road...

Then he asked his mates when we got back and they all thought the same. Those adverts must have been very influential

MeganChips · 05/10/2014 17:20

The channel tunnel goes under The sea bed Grin

I used to think this about the domes, I was so disappointed when I found out!

BumGravy · 05/10/2014 18:26

I thought Centre Parks was in a bubble too. I did wonder how people got in and out.
I thought the Channel Tunnel was a transparent tube from England to France, if you looked out your car window you could see lovely fish and sharks floating by.

PumpkinsMummy · 05/10/2014 18:33

Thank you for posting this. I thought this for ages, I can even see the bubble in my head with people riding bikes through a forest under it. Must have been an advert for so many of us to think that.

TheHouseatWhoCorner · 05/10/2014 18:37

I think that I thought it was under some sort of cleverly suspended dome. Sort of hovering 20ft above ground level. So you would still have nature, breathing and stuff but would be protected from the rain.

So, us it just a well marketed Haven then?

Lovelydiscusfish · 05/10/2014 18:40

I thought so too, for years. Thrilled to have been in such good company - dh mocked me (I should ltb really) and made me feel I was the only person to think this.

Fletchermoss · 05/10/2014 18:46

Centre Parcs is not chav free. Sorry.

pudcat · 05/10/2014 18:46

Well I thought it was as well. And until I went in the Channel tunnel I also thought you drove through it!!!!!!!

steps2change · 05/10/2014 19:21

Perhaps I should email Center Parcs and direct them to this thread - though they must get people commenting on it all the time, I guess, if so many of us have been duped confused. If I rocked up there for a holiday I would be wanting my giant greenhouse bubble to ride horses in thank you very much!

Do you not drive through the channel tunnel then? How do you get to the other end? V confused!!
