Back story, my DS has autism, disabilities, and health problems.

I had to pull over on the way home from school because he was having a seizure in the car. I managed to get him stable enough to rush him home.

I got home to find a work van parked over my drive.

I beeped a couple of times and nothing
So rather than just beeping I sat and leant on the horn for ages.

A man came out. I didn't even look at him, he moved the van, I pulled into my drive and he smiled at me so I just gave him a look of death and carried my DS in stomping as I went and slammed my front door.

Now I've calmed down.... I must have looked unhinged.

I'm forever going to be known as "that strange angry woman" aren't I? Hmm

Please tell me your stories of misdirected anger or over reactions to make me feel better.

I'm honestly usually a very calm and reasonable human being. Not a huge burning ball of rage. Blush

Bollocks to him, he should be parking properly.

Hope DS is okay now.

scarletforya · 01/10/2014 15:39

That's exactly the correct thing to do. You should also have jabbed your two fingers twords your eyes to indicate that you'll be 'watching' him in future.

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 15:39

He's absolutely fine it was only a little one. Just not great while I'm driving.

Thank you Thanks

It was a emergency, stuff him.

Seeline · 01/10/2014 15:41

I don't think it was ridiculous at all. I get really pissed off when people park across my drive. You should be able to access your own property when you want to - not have to wait for some inconsiderate lazy arse to come and move their vehicle. rant over
Hope your DS is OK now.

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 15:42

Oh goodness! If I'd have thought of the 'I'm watching you gesture' I probably would have done that and all. I was fuming! No need at all. Now I'm just embarrassed. I've just gone back to the car and he was getting into his van. I pointedly ignored him to save face.

I used to deliver meals on wheels (when they still had them in my area Sad), and arrived at the depot on a Saturday (an extra, for me), expecting my usual town round, only to find I'd been given a much longer (distance-wise) round in the surrounding villages.

This unaccountably enraged me to such an extent that I had a proper hissy fit (v. unlike me, in public, anyhow!), slamming the meal bag down on the counter, snatching it up again, stomping out and slamming my car door v. loudly. Think I left lots of raised eyebrows behind me! Blush

twentyten · 01/10/2014 15:46

Don't worry and have a Brew. Mother lion moment- defending cub. Van men are made of stern stuff......

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 15:46

Oh dear McRuff. Sounds just like me today. The red mist descended.

Autocorrect changed that to the red moist. Bit gross that. I might have a tantrum at my phone now as well

OP posts:
scarletforya · 01/10/2014 15:48

Don't feel guilty! If he looks at you again, narrow your eyes and drag your finger across your neck in a throat cutting motion! Grin

Bearsinmotion · 01/10/2014 15:49

I think you were perfectly reasonable. I would have taken the name of the company the van was from and explained how lack of courtesy can lose business. Angry

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 15:53

The vans were just grey vans. Not sure what company. But I doubt they will be parking anywhere near my drive in future. I must have looked like a person on the edge and I'm told I have a very scary glare (normally when I'm not glaring but am thinking too hard)

OP posts:
skylark2 · 01/10/2014 15:56

I don't think you were ridiculous - your DS needed you, you didn't have time to have discussions with random van drivers, you just needed to get him inside.

I hope your DS is doing better.

IrianofWay · 01/10/2014 15:57

DOn't give it another thought! You've just given him an entertaining story to tell later Wink

NorksEnormous · 01/10/2014 16:01

You weren't being ridiculous at all! I'll tell you about someone being ridiculous...last week when doing the grocery shopping at tesco they didn't have our dogs regular brand of dog food AGAIN, and the red mist descended and I started giving off to DH about how the store was useless and never had anything I want and how fed up I was with it. He handed me some trays of cesar and said 'sure we will just get him them' which made me angrier and I told him I shouldn't have to buy ones ddog doesnt like, they should bloody well have the proper ones in stock! At this point a staff member tapped me on the shoulder and said 'would you like me to check if we have any out the back' and I shot back 'no forget it, too late!' And marched off! Blush I'm sure the staff member thought I was completely unhinged to throw a strop over dog food!
Sad

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 16:11

Oh dear! Though that is really annoying to be fair!

BaffledSomeMore · 01/10/2014 16:12

I had a similar red mist moment when I came home from the school run to find an HGV blocking my lane and behind it a tradesman's van on my drive. I had just dropped ds off for childcare so I could work (from home).
I parked in front of the HGV blocking him in, berated the tradesman who said he had knocked on my door, got no answer so assumed he could park there and positively flounced into my house.

grocklebox · 01/10/2014 16:15

I once tried to kick a man in a hospital. I missed though.

In my defence he pushed in front of me in a line. Annoying but not usually violence causing. Except in this instance I was holding a large child having a protracted seizure and was seeking urgent assistance, and the man wanted convoluted directions to somewhere to park for free, and he thought his needs were greater than mine.

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 16:21

Baffled Grin I wish I could flounce! The best I can manage is a very clumsy stomp! I don't look undainty, but my body doesn't listen to me often.

Oh the hospital one sounds terrible Sad I'd have gotten out of the line for you!

OP posts:
R4roger · 01/10/2014 16:26

when I did that, hooted angrily at van parked in front of my drive, I broke my horn Blush

UncleSue · 01/10/2014 16:28

You weren't ridiculous at all. I hate inconsiderate parking, you had a good reason. Good for you, hopefully he may learn some parking manners!

Hurr1cane · 01/10/2014 16:36

How did you break your horn??? Shock

Did you give it a good punch?

OP posts:
UncleT · 01/10/2014 16:41

Nope, you're fine. He's an arse and your reaction is totally understandable in the circumstances.

Thumbwitch · 01/10/2014 16:48

Not ridiculous. Really, not. Not even an over-reaction, tbh.

I made a bloke actually jump several inches in the air when I got home from hospital with newborn DS1, in UK December, and found a flatbed parked across my house to the point where I couldn't even walk round it to get in. I stood in the street and YELLED at him to get his flatbed out the way so I could take my BABY into my own HOUSE! He moved pretty quickly. Fucker.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/10/2014 16:52

Parking in front of an empty drive is inconsiderate but not illegal.

He moved and smiled. (I;m assuming a "sorry about that" smile not a smirk )
He probably does think, having seen a teeny snapshot that you did act a bit OTT.
But it might stop him doing it again.
On the other hand, as there's no law against it. it might not.
