to think no one should own land and ignore a sign saying private woods

Ok o will probably get flamed here.

But there is a badly managed woods near me with am old broken sign that say private woods. Aibu to collect a few broken branches for the wood burner? I know it is stealing, but this woods is overgrown and I'm thinking how unethical it is for anyone to own land.

Land used to all be free, until someone carved it all up to hoard for themselves. If land was still free now maybe we wouldn't have to all be working such stupid hours wasting our lives doing a job we don't like.

Or indeed dress my desire to pick blackberries up as a campaign against the inequalities in our society.

We're missing a trick.

longest · 26/09/2014 14:33

empty fields

grovel · 26/09/2014 14:33

I would shoot a dog if it started picking my blackberries.

Yes I am vegan.
Well, at least you're consistent.

I think you're onto a losing wicket about not owning animals, though. The domestic dog co-evolved with the human race over tens of millennia and helped us hunt, herd stock and generally survive. I'm not quite sure what we'd do with all the millions of them if we didn't own them. Likewise sheep. Sterilise them all and let them die a natural death? Is that your plan?

longest · 26/09/2014 14:35

My dog used to love blackberries.

He also loved strawberries. I went off my homegrown ones after I caught him delicately taking each strawberry on the plant in his mouth, giving it a good old suck, then leaving it on the plant for me the next unsuspecting forager to devour.

Longest - my brown lab eats blackberries. We'd go for walks and she would eat the ones from the lower branches, and I'd pick the higher-up ones for the freezer.

mls3 · 26/09/2014 14:37

Re wood is more expensive.

Even with lidl prices blackberries are more expensive per gram than firewood.

Re badgers as I've already said, badgers are being shot here with the funding from tax payers money and I'd be very supprised if a badger can make a nest out of a branch less than an inch in diameter. Anyway I've already clollected a hand full of nicely seasoned branches now.

The OP is a hypocrite because her thread title says no-one should own land, and she herself owns land.

mls3 · 26/09/2014 14:39

Empty feilds are fields without trees growing in. The whole country used to be a forest.

Badgers don't build nests.

They dig holes.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 14:40

Badgers don't make nests!! They dig holes in the ground called setts.

This is a stunningly brilliant demonstration of your knowledge of rural affairs - no wonder you can judge so accurately that the woodland is not being managed! Grin

partialderivative · 26/09/2014 14:40

I love picking blackberries with my Dc's. (we only do it on public pathways) Isn't it such a brilliant way of spending time with children.

And if you can bake! What a treat!

I have lovely memories of my aunt baking apple and blackberry pie. All from their (very small. council house) back garden.

Sorry, I have not addressed the OP

mls3 · 26/09/2014 14:40

Only because I have to own land for my house to sit on. I still don't consider myself owning land, I'm just borrowing it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 14:40

From Wikipedia:

"Badgers are flightless birds who nest only at ground level" Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 14:41

You don't have to own land for your house to sit on - you could rent it!

Nanny0gg · 26/09/2014 14:41

It's only by following these stupid rules so we allow the 1% to own most of the country. It's ridiculous. Land should be for everyone. If you've got a house you've got enough.

Speaking of stupid...

What is your house standing on?
Oh yes...

longest · 26/09/2014 14:41

No, empty means "nothing in it".

Bit of countryside that aren't woods are "fields" (broadly)

mls3 · 26/09/2014 14:42

Meh badgers / headhogs.

You girls are so vicious, all it takes is a typo or any mistake and its like feeding time at the zoo...

longest · 26/09/2014 14:42

She's only borrowing the land for her house to sit on SDTG

Duh!

longest · 26/09/2014 14:43

Nah, I just don't like stoopid.

It gets right on me tits.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 14:44

Not any mistake - just really stupid ones!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/09/2014 14:45

And it is hedgehogs, not headhogs.

Mitchy1nge · 26/09/2014 14:45

CRYING at nest of badgers

trevortrevorslattery · 26/09/2014 14:46

Ha. Those badger eggs aren't nearly as chocolately as they look.
sorry OP and Milton Jones
