Ok o will probably get flamed here.

But there is a badly managed woods near me with am old broken sign that say private woods. Aibu to collect a few broken branches for the wood burner? I know it is stealing, but this woods is overgrown and I'm thinking how unethical it is for anyone to own land.

Land used to all be free, until someone carved it all up to hoard for themselves. If land was still free now maybe we wouldn't have to all be working such stupid hours wasting our lives doing a job we don't like.

The fruit, equally, belongs to the neighbour, even if on overhanging branches.
Trespass is civil.Unless there are any aggravating features to the trespass I think the police would not be an option.

That is interesting, ThatBloodyWoman - I didn't know that.

Indeed but if there might be trouble police turn out such as when people are trying to disrupt the hunt etc.

If it's woodland it would probably be covered by the land reform act in Scotland and very little woodland is considered "private". Woods and forests are usually included in the act. Gathering firewood without permission may be different though to just walking on the land.
