to think no one should own land and ignore a sign saying private woods

Ok o will probably get flamed here.

But there is a badly managed woods near me with am old broken sign that say private woods. Aibu to collect a few broken branches for the wood burner? I know it is stealing, but this woods is overgrown and I'm thinking how unethical it is for anyone to own land.

Land used to all be free, until someone carved it all up to hoard for themselves. If land was still free now maybe we wouldn't have to all be working such stupid hours wasting our lives doing a job we don't like.

sigh - if I could just derail the thread back a little bit....

You cannot sell the meat from a sheep after a dog has savaged it.

When an owner allows its dog to run amok amongst sheep, you risk a) killing the sheep, b) injuring the sheep to such an extent that they need to be put down and c) the abortion of any lambs that the ewes may be carrying.

Not only is that someone's livelihood, that's also our own food. The damage a rogue dog can do to a flock is incredible.

It is perfectly legal to shoot dogs if they are worrying livestock, be that sheep, cows or even deer. The answer to that is to control your dog.

And with regard to the land ownership issue and farmers - the bottom line is that if there are no farms, there will be no food. We need farmers to own the land.

What's it all got to do with shooting badgers?

actually OP the queen ultimately owns allllllllllllllllllllllllllll the land in England, we can only ever own the freehold

Not all, doesn't the church own a lot too? And the corporation of London? Think you mean the crown estate rather than the queen.

Although if the rumers are true about certain members of a certain family and what went on in the past its not unimaginable to think they could go the French way.

OP posts:
iK8 · 26/09/2014 13:33

Okaaaaaaaay

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:33

Are rumers the same as rumours? Still waiting on the source for the 1% claim.

MehsMum · 26/09/2014 13:33

The French way?
The tricolour? Garlic? Nice cheese?

mls3 · 26/09/2014 13:34

Yes I own a house and a few square meters of land, they are well matqined and secured and show obvious signs of regular use. If they fell in to disrepair, had not been used for half a century and people could gain access without damaging anything then I'd be well up for people making the most of them.

OP posts:
PinkSquash · 26/09/2014 13:34

What rumours?

echt · 26/09/2014 13:34

OP, how does what you've just said justify your nicking the wood. Or have you bottled out on this?

mls3 · 26/09/2014 13:35

1% is just a plucked figure. Google for the correct one. The minority own the majoirty of the land.

OP posts:
iK8 · 26/09/2014 13:35

Yes I own a house and a few square meters of land

And with that she lost the thread. The end.

mls3 · 26/09/2014 13:36

My stance hasn't changed, how do you justify a person nicking land from the people?

OP posts:
MehsMum · 26/09/2014 13:36

Maybe you should google before you post... It's sensible to check facts before you shoot your mouth off.

Oh, sorry, no guns...

I need to of soon. I'm getting catty.

PinkSquash · 26/09/2014 13:36

Here's some handy education from those capitalist bastards at Natural England about natural woodlands.

MehsMum · 26/09/2014 13:36

GO soon.

Mitchy1nge · 26/09/2014 13:36

the crown, yeah, owns everything absolutely and we can hold legal or beneficial ownership from them

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:36

Why should we google for the correct one? You stated 1% so thank you for admitting it came from your arse, rather than your knowledge.

Agree ik8, op has lost any valid point, and is now becoming a parody.

Why do you secure your land mls3? Shouldn't everyone be able to use it?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/09/2014 13:37

Aah - selective answering. That's always a good way to go, if you've been wrong-footed. Just reply to some of the comments, avoiding at all costs, of course, the pertinent ones, particularly those that may be specifically challenging and related to your original Opening Post.
Because you know you're wrong, and haven't a hope in clawing your way back Grin

Mitchy1nge · 26/09/2014 13:38

how can a wood fall into disrepair? a wood can manage itself much more nicely without human interference, just ask all the shy woodland creatures who call it home

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:38

how do i justify nicking from other people?

corrected it for you op

OwlCapone · 26/09/2014 13:38

Yes I own a house and a few square meters of land

What gives you the right to own this and to prevent others from using the land?

iK8 · 26/09/2014 13:38

How do you justify a person nicking land from the people?

Dunno love. How do you justify it? You Capitalist-House-Owning-Bastard you Wink

MissPenelopeLumawoo · 26/09/2014 13:39

Why is it ethical to take the earths land from people? Who does the earth belong to?

Maybe the earth belongs as much to the overseas investors you object to as it does to anyone else!

BTW, Does your house not have foundations? You can bet they have been dug deeper than the layer of topsoil, as are your drains/water pipes, gas supply etc. Have you selfishly claimed a piece of the earth to run your utilities through? Who does the earth belong to???

TunipTheUnconquerable · 26/09/2014 13:40

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But leaves the man or woman loose
Who steals the common from the goose.

(not a particularly relevant rhyme given we have no evidence these woods were part of traditional common land (they needn't have been woodland forever) but I thought I should quote it here anyway because it's so good. Smile )

Nomama · 26/09/2014 13:40

Actually I do own the mineral rights to the land under my property... The Verderers Court says so.

And since there were men there has been ownership, fights over and shouts of 'Get Orf My Land'. 'Wild Man' wouldn't have succeeded otherwise - just as packs of wolves, herd of deer have territories.

Oh, and man can own all the land he likes, most wildlife can't read the sign saying Keep Out'.

Now, what was the point of this again? Oh yeah! Twigs! Go to the library and ask them who owns the land, make a phone call and ask nicely!

Sorry if that has already been covered, but the OP annoyed me, made me laugh, etc.
