to think no one should own land and ignore a sign saying private woods

Ok o will probably get flamed here.

But there is a badly managed woods near me with am old broken sign that say private woods. Aibu to collect a few broken branches for the wood burner? I know it is stealing, but this woods is overgrown and I'm thinking how unethical it is for anyone to own land.

Land used to all be free, until someone carved it all up to hoard for themselves. If land was still free now maybe we wouldn't have to all be working such stupid hours wasting our lives doing a job we don't like.

Aspirations are a bad thing ???

They are if you plan to horde to the decriment of others.

No its more the suffering. Having pregnant sheep torn apart and eaten alive isnt very nice for them.

NecesitoDormir · 26/09/2014 13:19

So what is your solution? How shall we address this 1% owning 99% of the land? Steal wood from them to heat our middle-class homes? What is the real argument here OP?

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:20

Also, where do you stop?

Not everybody has a car, so people who don't, can use cars of others for free?
Not everybody has a mortgage, so again, people who don't can live in other people's houses for free?
Not everybody has ...... therefore people who don't should be able to use .....

-- is basically what you are saying. Yuck.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/09/2014 13:20

You're not very principled then OP if you think its unethical to own any land but you own some.

MehsMum · 26/09/2014 13:20

Yeah, Baffled, I know, but I was trying to keep it brief. It's a bloody horrible sight.

I doubt itsbetter has ever seen it, though.

NecesitoDormir · 26/09/2014 13:20

I would like to know where this 1% statistic comes from. Please provide a source.

mls3 · 26/09/2014 13:20

Well we could address it by banning overseas investment firms from buying up land. Would be a good start.

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:21

Everything is more or less at the detriment at others.

Aspirations are never a bad thing. Just because you might be someone who has no aims in life, don't cast aspersions at those of us who try.

Nothing stopping you from getting your own wood. Your view would certainly change then.

Why about your home you own?

VivaLeBeaver · 26/09/2014 13:22

I wouldn't have a problem if the OP said there's some branches in a semi abandoned wood. Its the dressing it up as her ethical right to take what she wants which is more annoying.

MehsMum · 26/09/2014 13:22

Yeah, iK, I was wondering that... Maybe that's not 'land', though, so is somehow okay...?

echt · 26/09/2014 13:22

Still doesn't justify your nicking wood, though.

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:22

Yes, let's start banning things. Freedom of commerce, speech, trade, no! Op has no land, so nobody else can.

Mmmnotsure · 26/09/2014 13:23

Please, itsbetter tell me that you were just saying that to shock, and that you don't really believe it.

I assume you must be vegan, as that is the only stance from which you could even begin to hold that attitude.

Have you ever seen animals - livestock and, yes, pet lambs - after a dog has attacked? Terrified ewes, mauled and dying; dead lambs which their mothers have tried to protect; and later, sheep aborting otherwise viable lambs. If you had ever been the shepherd, or farmer, or member of the public who was passing and tried to help, you would not have been able to type what you just did.

if you are not vegan, then I hope you look into the provenance of any meat you eat, or any animal products you use or wear, more than your post implies.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/09/2014 13:23

Was that meant to be "what about the home you own"?

Grin
thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:24

Also op, please stop poisoning my atmosphere with carbon from your burning of illegally gained wood.

Thanks

ArsenicFaceCream · 26/09/2014 13:24

How does anyone hoard a wood!? What do you mean? Confused

And where is the detriment? Whose detriment?

Private ownership of the wood isn't hurting you. You are aggrieved about lack of access, utility, foraging rights surely?

Mitchy1nge · 26/09/2014 13:24

actually OP the queen ultimately owns allllllllllllllllllllllllllll the land in England, we can only ever own the freehold

that probably doesn't help

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/09/2014 13:24

Let's just say, for argument's sake, OP, someone gave you a little plot of land. All your own, plenty of dead wood.
Would you refuse it?
What would you do once all the dead wood had been collected and burned on your wood burner?
How would you propose sustaining and maintaining 'your' bit of land?
What would you do if you saw someone else creeping about and collecting the dead branches that you had earmarked for your own wood burner? (The burner in the house that are presumably hovering above ground)

thicksolidtight · 26/09/2014 13:25

Mmmsure, no they haven't seen that. If they had, then as you state, nobody would say anything so ignorant or ill-informed as that.

People seem to think 5 mins in the countryside gives them the reality of what goes on, all year round. It doesn't.

Mitchy1nge · 26/09/2014 13:26

or leasehold of course

VSeth · 26/09/2014 13:26

Better plan, rather than buying said land how about just getting very pally with HRH?

iK8 · 26/09/2014 13:27

Erm.. it was because she only replies to posts about spelling mistakes. Honest Hmm Grin

I wasn't paying attention. Supposed to be working

ArsenicFaceCream · 26/09/2014 13:30

Is foreign owners worse than British owners OP?

I can't follow what you're saying at all now.
