HaroldLloyd · 24/09/2014 21:24

Oh my GODFATHERS. I did a spelling mistake.

I hope your all ok? Anyone need smelling salts?

fourforksache · 24/09/2014 21:25

Be careful, Sangria will pull you up for starting a sentence with "and". Wink

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/09/2014 21:25

You done a mistake.. faaaaack

goingmadinthecountry · 24/09/2014 21:26

It's.

Yes.

HaroldLloyd · 24/09/2014 21:27

Faaaaaaaackinell. Should I ring 101 or is this a 999 matter?

HaroldLloyd · 24/09/2014 21:28

Goingmad, would it help to just think we not your class or your children? Rather grown adults chatting?

You should have a relax of an evening.

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 21:28

I can hear the wincing from here,Harold.

It's because your not clever like what they are.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/09/2014 21:28

Who gives a flying fuck!

goingmadinthecountry · 24/09/2014 21:29

If people use bad grammar as text speak it becomes a habit. We already have a generation of children (and adults) who can't read and write properly. Let's not make it worse.

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 21:30

I think it's worser now,too.

I blame FaceBook.

HaroldLloyd · 24/09/2014 21:31

W0rz.

kilmuir · 24/09/2014 21:31

I care. Its easy to learn the correct way, why do we always dumb down?

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 21:32

Worserer

MillieMoodle · 24/09/2014 21:32

Yanbu. I don't think it's anything to do with 'forum speak' as some have suggested. You either write the correct phrase/word or you don't. You wouldn't write 'should of' on here and then 'should have' in a work email would you? Surely if you know the correct form, you'll use it? I don't always get grammar or punctuation right, but if I've got it wrong and someone corrects me, I'll make sure I get it right in future.

Bought/brought drives me mad.

I agree with what others have said about 'myself'. It's definitely overused and doesn't make people sound clever.

Imply/infer is another one.

I think I'll go and hide in Pedants' Corner......

Fenton · 24/09/2014 21:34

I should of never opened this thread, it's just got on my last camel innit.

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 21:34

I would take more care at work. Obvs.

Fenton · 24/09/2014 21:36

I would be ripped to shreds here if people knew what I actually did for a living seeing the mistakes and typos I make sometimes.

I blame small phone and predictive text.

MillieMoodle · 24/09/2014 21:37

If you know that 'should have' is the correct form, I don't understand why you'd ever write 'should of' in its place?

Fenton · 24/09/2014 21:38

Did you hesitate over that 'its' Millie?

DID YA? Grin

TeaAndALemonTart · 24/09/2014 21:38

I should have new I would find you lot on here.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 24/09/2014 21:39

You'd love my native dialect - onna, wonna, conna! Am not, will not/was not, can not in translation for those that care!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 24/09/2014 21:39

She copied kilmuir.

MillieMoodle · 24/09/2014 21:41

No I didn't, because 'it's' means 'it is'.
Why can't you all just speak proper like what I does? Wink

goingmadinthecountry · 24/09/2014 21:41

If children in year 5 can work out its/it's there is absolutely no reason adults need to get it wrong.
