YIBU (you is being unreasonable)

Grin
ArabellaTarantella · 24/09/2014 19:00

We try time and time again to educate the masses, but they just don't listen. Grin More like, you will get slated if you comment.

And........you're not your.....as in you're being unreasonable

And......swings AND roundabouts....not swings in roundabouts

NorwaySpruce · 24/09/2014 19:01

Yes, it is.

But really, is that the most important thing?

It's the idea, thought, hope, fear, question, that matters.

Not the standard of the OP's education. Or the cluelessness of their iPad.

That's all.

Letthemtalk · 24/09/2014 19:02

And you don't keep anything in draws!!!

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 19:02

Who cares.

OraProNobis · 24/09/2014 19:04

I care. I'm reading the latest Lynda la Plante (yes yes, I know!) and even she doesn't know when to use 'your' and when it should be 'you're). Shocked is what I am!

ArabellaTarantella · 24/09/2014 19:04

What standard of education does this country put forward to the world if loads of people can't even speak their native tongue Blush

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 19:07

I still don't care.

I care even less when I'm on a chat forum. Nothing you say will make me
care.

LadyLuck10 · 24/09/2014 19:08

It's sitting down, not am sat down.

alsmutko · 24/09/2014 19:10

It doesn't matter on a chat forum. It does matter if you're applying for a job or writing a book (btw shouldn't Lynda La Plant's editor have picked that up?). It's important that people know when proper grammer/spelling is needed and when it doesn't matter.
Innit?

SauvignonBlanche · 24/09/2014 19:11

Their, their, never mind.

ArabellaTarantella · 24/09/2014 19:11

He borrowed me some money.

RahRahRasputin · 24/09/2014 19:12

YANBU. My pet hate at the moment is people using "myself" incorrectly. I think they do it to sound more intelligent but it doesn't make any sense Confused

emotionsecho · 24/09/2014 19:13

Here we go again, we had a very long thread about this a couple of weeks ago.

This is a chat forum not an application for a job or a report to be presented to the UN High Commission.

usualsuspect333 · 24/09/2014 19:13

Oh how clever you all are.

ArabellaTarantella · 24/09/2014 19:14

Oooh, I love a Gold Star. Thank you.

thornrose · 24/09/2014 19:15

Bore off. Grin

fourforksache · 24/09/2014 19:15

I like the sound of a swing in a roundabout, but it probably wouldn't end well Grin

YANBU, pippinleaf, but then I'm a grumpy, pedantic old cow.

cherrybombxo · 24/09/2014 19:47

I'm incredibly pedantic, so I appreciate this thread. Thank you.

ithoughtofitfirst · 24/09/2014 19:54

I really really struggle with English and get really intimidated by this kind of thing Sad

LapsedTwentysomething · 24/09/2014 19:54

I'll have a gold star too, please, while I ponder the modal / auxiliary construction of 'could have' and whether or not my year 7s really need to know this grammar shit.

LapsedTwentysomething · 24/09/2014 19:56

Honestly ithoughtofitfirst, don't. The posters who point out that this stuff only matters in a formal context are right. The pedants can judge away.

Writerwannabe83 · 24/09/2014 19:57

YADDDDDNBU!!!!!!

I find my inner rage brewing when I see this written down or hear it being said Grin

HoneyDragon · 24/09/2014 19:57

Meh

Should, coulda, woulda, whatevah....

SevenZarkSeven · 24/09/2014 20:00

It's come from "should've" and "would've" I assume? Which are perfectly fine but if you've only heard them can transmute into "should of"?

That's my guess.

Children's book earlier kept saying "off of" which led me to tell 5yo "this is bloody awful" which I'm not sure is the desired outcome of a bedtime story.
