Wibu to take ds to a&e?

Ds 3yo has a sudden temp of 38.9° having gone up from 38.7° at 6 pm, calpol hasn't helped any and he isn't fully waking up but he's been throwing up while half awake and sort of choking on it. He's really pale and hot to touch, shivery but not clammy.

Phoned nhs24 and they said to monitor him over night and arrange an out of hours visit to hospital tomorrow. But he's not waking up properly to be sick, I'm petrified he's going to choke and kill himself if I fall asleep and his temp is climbing.

Wibu to take him to a&e even though the nhs24 doctor person said not to? His not being able to wake properly is scaring me, he's never had so much as d&v before, apart from colds he's always very healthy so i might be over reacting?

Poor wee man Thanks for you both, so good to hear the blood tests are clear and they are keeping a close watch on him.

mausmaus · 21/09/2014 21:57

oh dear.
I'm so glad that you listened to us vipers mumsnetters instead of the guys on the phone who are supposed to give nhs money saving sensible advice.

I really hope you and your ds are able to go home soon, but for now you are in the best place!

Curiouslygrumpycola · 21/09/2014 22:05

Hope your son feels better soon x

ScarlettDarling · 21/09/2014 22:06

Poor little mite, what an awful time he's having. Try to be reassured that he's in the right place and that he's got people who really know what they're doing, looking after him. Stay strong OP x

starlight1234 · 21/09/2014 22:18

Poor thing , Glad you trusted your instincts and he is getting the treatment he needs. hope he is better soon x

aintnothinbutagstring · 21/09/2014 22:28

How's it going OP? I've had a few sleepless nights on the children's ward with my little ds who has asthma, I often used MN to keep me company, there's usually always someone up.

My ds was quite bad once with a bacterial chest infection, he perked up very slowly once on ABs but was unresponsive for a good while apart from a pathetic mewing cry if I tried to wake him, was very scary. He had a fever but felt cold which I knew wasn't right.

It sounds like your ds is having a right rough ride of it, its good you trusted your instincts, I hope his condition turns a corner very soon.

Evabeaversprotege · 21/09/2014 22:33

The wee pet xx hope he perks up soon

listsandbudgets · 21/09/2014 22:41

Poor little boy. I'm so glad you took him in OP and I hope he recovers soon. You were right to trust your instincts

thewomaninwhite · 21/09/2014 22:53

Sorry to hear that your DS is still unwell. Hoping that he is brighter tomorrow.

Thumbwitch · 22/09/2014 01:11

Sorry he's still not well, but glad he's in the right place and hopefully they'll work out what it is soon and deal with it. It's so hard when they're so little and sick! (((hugs))) for you both Thanks

PseudoBadger · 22/09/2014 07:34

How's he doing Pretty?

PrettyPictures92 · 22/09/2014 07:49

Sorry fell asleep in the chair next to ds last night, completely exhausted. He had a rough night, woke up a lot but he's not as drowsy this morning, his temp is down to 38.7 again which is good news. He's still a bit cranky and just wants cuddles but he's asked for some water which is good too :) we'll see if he eats any at breakfast though, he must be starving cause he's not aye properly since lunch time on Saturday Sad

So glad he's feeling a bit better :)

KnackeredMuchly · 22/09/2014 08:11

Great news OP! Why don't 'you' have breakfast of two slices of toast next to him, see if it tempts him? If it doesn't you dont have to eat it.

PrettyPictures92 · 22/09/2014 08:40

Will give it a try knackered, hopefully he'll be able to eat this morning. His throat was too sore yesterday, think that's what's stopped him eating. Doc will be around at 11ish to check on him again but the nurse has just said he seems to be responding well to the antibiotics and fluids Grin

Poor wee thing, how is he this afternoon?

x2boys · 22/09/2014 19:25

Poor little boy i!,m glad he's getting treatment the problem with NHS direct /24 is that anything triggering and they err very much on the side of caution whilst good in a few cases they usually end sending patients whondont really need to a and e my youngest son is autistic and a few months ago he had a bad cough dh is overly cautious anyway but he was breathing quite heavily whilst asleep so we phoned NHS direct for advice they ended up sending an ambulance and taking us to a and e ,accident and emergency were great and pres ibed antibiotics but I. Could of got these off my gp the next day really

PrettyPictures92 · 22/09/2014 21:57

Heya, they've kept him in again tonight just to make sure he's not going to get worse but he's perked up quite a bit :) he ate some soup for dinner and had some custard at lunch time, it hurts his throat to eat anything solid atm though :( his temp is staying around 38.4° now and he's still got an ear/throat/possible chest infection but he's not drowsy or throwing up now, just a bit moody Grin (I prefer the moody grumpy crying to the sleep throwing up and not being able to keep his eyes open, never thought that would be something I said!) So long as he doesn't deteriorate anymore he'll be home in the morning. He's sound asleep now and I think I might actually get to sleep tonight.

Thank you everyone for your support Flowers
