Hey all,

Here's my issue whenever I'm not allowed to smoke In the house parents don't like It so I have to smoke In my garden however every time I go outside In my own garden for a cig my neighbors start banging the door in there garage (they sit in there garage, I really don't know what they do in there but they do)

What shall I do? It's starting to get on my nerves any advice?

also I live In a House there garden joins ours a fence is between us, even when I go outside not to smoke they still bang.. I really don't know what to do anymore, there Is a chance they can smell the smoke, but seriously I'm not allowed to smoke In public places, or in my house so were the hell can I smoke?

Also they are fairly close to as I said before only a fence between me and them.

Perhaps they are living in the garage.

Vitalstatistix · 19/09/2014 13:39

nobody can tell you why they are doing it. It would only be a guess and you can guess as well as anybody else.

It's only banging. It can't hurt you.

Go down the bottom of the garden or wear earmuffs or listen to music on headphones or something.

Woozlebear · 19/09/2014 13:42

Yeah you have a right to smoke on your garden but unless your garden is massive it's probably also really annoying for neighbours if they can smell it. You could go down the garden further.

MaidOfStars · 19/09/2014 14:17

Alternatively, is one of them huge and black, one charming, one unhinged and one smoking a cigar?

Crying......

However, whether they like or not, smoking tobacco in one's back garden is entirely legal. So they can just jog on.

I never understand this attitude on MN. Just because something is illegal does not mean it is thoroughly unpleasant and inconsiderate - e.g. parking across someone's driveway and preventing them from driving in.

Just go and smoke at the front of the house, OP. Or, even better, give up.

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 19/09/2014 14:27

Perhaps they live in there full time. Like this.

Stop smoking? will do you good, and solve your problem. Wink

James - I think you need to go to your neighbours and ask them politely why they keep on banging every time you go outside. If the cigarette smoke smell is annoying them, maybe you could smoke somewhere else?

I am not saying that they have the right to force you to go elsewhere to smoke, and I think that a pair of grown adults should be able to find a better way to deal with their neighbour's son, if his smoking is annoying them - like asking him politely if he could smoke elsewhere in his garden, for example - but I think you need to find out why they are banging, otherwise you and they could be at cross-purposes forever!

I am a non smoker, and I can smell the smoke when I am outside - and I really dislike it - but I wouldn't complain if my neighbour was smoking - though if the smell was getting into my house on a regular basis, I might ask them politely if they could smoke elsewhere.

Ds3 found out how sensitive I am to cigarette smoke when he came home from a party one night, and decided to have a cigarette on the patio, under my open bedroom window. He did his best to deny he was smoking, though, when I went downstairs. He was pissed enough to believe that I wouldn't notice he had one hand nonchalantly hidden behind his back, and that, despite it being 1am and no-one else being around, there was a smell of fag smoke! Poor lad was swiftly disabused of this notion! Grin
