No gloating.
No blaming.

Just appreciation for a huge turnout and a peaceful process.

oops, apogolies for the repeat.

Criseyde · 19/09/2014 23:57

"I can't decide if it should be denounced as not part of BT or if that is just giving the idiots more credit and publicity than they warrant."

Yeah, statistically, lets just minimise and ignore this. Never mind the 5 threads of handwringing because a few idiots heckled a politician.

The 'dark side' of the Yes campaign, my arse. Here is the dark side of British Nationalism. Chucking flares, singing songs about killing catholics, and burning saltires.

But we were all supposed to pretend that British Nationalism doesn't exist. Or was somehow special in that all 'nationalism' was bad, except British Nationalism.

Looks like you're not going to get much in the way of 'extra powers' anytime soon either. Are you going to be marching in the streets, as you promised?

starwarslegoboy · 20/09/2014 00:14

Just egg the cads and they will surely be bullied into retreat

BasketzatDawn · 20/09/2014 00:21

Ach, here was me thinking we were all to play naice now, but you're not wrong there, Criseyde. Smile Too tired to discuss further, just waiting for my turn in the bathroom ....

Plymouthsupporter · 20/09/2014 00:50

I am glad Scotland are staying in the UK

chocoluvva · 20/09/2014 01:02

DD and friends walked from her accommodation in the merchant city up buchanan street to go to a gig earlier, past rearing police horses, sectarian singing, broken windows etc. At the end of the gig the electricity box beside the venue went on fire. Instead of going home to her flat they went to another bar near charing cross Hmm. DD's friend replied to a text I sent begging suggesting it might be wise to go back to the flat 20 minutes ago, to let me know they've started walking back to the flat now. I am really looking forward to hearing that they are home safely Sad
Queen St rail still closed?

chocoluvva · 20/09/2014 01:05

Posted too soon. so they are all going to stay at her flat.

Shock at this state of affairs.

chocoluvva · 20/09/2014 01:17

Ah. Safely home apparently.

Toadinthehole · 20/09/2014 01:58

The Glasgow Orange element. Devoted to the Union. Hated the English.

Toadinthehole · 20/09/2014 02:05

Should have used the present tense. I was going from memory. I imagine they still don't like us (or, it seems very many people).

SuperWifeANDMum · 20/09/2014 02:20

Fanjo

And for all the nice comments about we love you Scotland from the
No camp today I will not forget the many frankly shitty ones over course of campaign along lines of 'well the can eff off and we will laugh as they go bust'. Several people saying 'you mean nothing to us and wish you would go' And frankly patronising threads about haggi. Which make the union that little bit less appealing

Are you joking?

What about Scotland's very obvious anti English sentiments? English people residing in Scotland for numerous years being told too 'Fuck off back to England where you came from?'

What makes our union that 'little bit less appealing' is that we are making concessions to appease 5.3million Scottish people when there is 53million people in England who have Scottish MPs voting on matters that are of no concern to them.

You were voting in a referendum based on hopes and dreams not facts and figures. Take some consolation that with a no vote England wont have to pick up the pieces and bail out Scotland when it all went inevitably wrong.

livingzuid · 20/09/2014 04:02

There was plenty in the press about the BT campaign distancing itself from the Orange marches. If they had, in any way shape or form, some sort of alliance then quite rightly all hell would have broken loose and we would have heard of it. I hope things are quiet in Glasgow this morning and no one was hurt.

There have been extreme elements on both sides which have no place in modern society. I wish the whole country could just go on holiday to take a break from this referendum and both sides heal (for want of a better word). I was so pleased with a no vote, but equally am pleased that it was a 45% yes because we can all work together on political reform. I might have disagreed with it, but it was a brave debate to have with lots of good arising as a result.

But it has taken its toll. I am just sick of all of it now. What an emotional roller coaster. If Cameron decides to hold another referendum on anything in the unlikely event of him winning the next election (I feel very strongly about Europe as well!) I think I'm emigrating. This has made me ill.

livingzuid · 20/09/2014 05:03

I've also made a resolution never to discuss politics aside from with DH who I trust. I really hated how it changed my perception of people who I liked and respected and through this process found myself thinking wtf. What goes on in the polling booth is between an individual and their ballot paper. I found myself disliking people for no other reason then their opinion differed to mine and I have not liked that coming out in me. Perhaps because it was such an emotive topic? I don't think I would care if it were party politics.

On an amusing note, I saw in the Guardian that the Russian observers had commented that our turnout was comparable to North Korea Grin

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 20/09/2014 05:48

supermum what a heartwarming post. Confused

living don't know if this is true, but I read on twitter that Russia were questioning the validity of the vote. Brilliant. Grin

trixymalixy · 20/09/2014 05:55

Apparently a Yes vote would have brought about an end to sectarianism in Scotland. Is there no end to the delusion Hmm.

livingzuid · 20/09/2014 06:05

Just watching the political storm now on BBC which would have happened regardless of the result. Must find my popcorn.

Is Cameron on drugs? How can they push through English devolution by January!

livingzuid · 20/09/2014 06:09

Oh yes secret sorry I should have linked the article. Hilarious. Regardless of one's feelings on the vote I think we can all be sure it was fairly done. Pot and kettle.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/sep/19/russia-calls-foul-scottish-referendum

Trixy indeed. I think either way the division has just gotten worse.

trixymalixy · 20/09/2014 06:18

Sorry, shouldn't have posted that on what's supposed to be a positive thread. I'm just fed up of the crap that's being thrown around on FB. I'm reevaluating some friendships after this referendum. It's been divisive and nasty.

Tinkerball · 20/09/2014 06:35

Well super mums post is hardly positive now is it? Anyone got anything to say on that. No fanjo is not joking, super mum you just display the typical attitude that made me want to vote yes. Just as well there I don't think all a English people have the same attitude to us eh!! Can't you see there are idiots on both sides, the only thing missing from your post was the words. "Subsidy " and "free prescriptions".

Tinkerball · 20/09/2014 06:38

Someone who thinks the UK is less appealing because "we " ( I'm taking a wild guess here they you mean "the English") are making concessions to suit 5 million Scottish people, am I on MN or have I wandered onto the Daily Mail by accident?

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 20/09/2014 06:54

Scotland is obviously worth appeasing though isn't it? Or why would such an orchestrated effort to keep us have been launched? It wasn't for the teary eyed sentiment of keeping the family together that's for sure.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 20/09/2014 07:10

Oh let's change the subject. So who dreamt of Tommy Sheridan last night?

Roonerspism · 20/09/2014 07:11

Rita I think one of the big reasons for that is the dire effects on the economy on both sides. The uncertainties would have been bad news for markets/investments/finance in England too...

Roonerspism · 20/09/2014 07:12

secret ha haaaaaaaaa. Ya think he's sexy?!

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 20/09/2014 07:22

No but if you look back there was a photo of him posted just as I was going to bed - horrendous!
