No gloating.
No blaming.

Just appreciation for a huge turnout and a peaceful process.

I can't see anything online about reneging on devolution.

What's happening with that as it's starting to appear on my Facebook?

starwarslegoboy · 19/09/2014 21:22

Stat

Biting? Do you think the universal Gordon slagging jokes would be so accepted as to not to offend anyone? Has he been put back in his box labeled 'Ruining Britain" but no label available for the 'Saving Britain' job he appears to have been recently recruited to do.

Bowlersarm · 19/09/2014 21:26

Secretblack I'm fairly certain they aren't reneging. Ed Miliband is saying 'hang on a minute' because David Cameron is throwing in the English issues relevant to england at the same time. It's got nothing to do with what was promised to Scotland.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 19/09/2014 21:26

Secret It's day 1. Did you listed to what DC asked WH to do? Did you read about what EM said he didn't agree with? OR are you just kicking the cat? now seem to be & are actually are not the same thing!

Now, I'm no fan of either of them, but bloody hell, let's call them on things when they have fucked up, not when they might maybe fuck up! (we'd get nothing done if we did that!).

Is it bothering you that they are saying 'OK, well we've promised Scotland xyz - so how are we going to make that work in England, Wales and NI as well'? Because if it is, that's not really fair is it? Do we deserve any less? England gets the sticky end of the stick as it is because we are 'here' - a bit like you are more polite to visitors than your DH.

People see the money in London. But it's a small small small part of the rest of the UK, Scotland isn't any worse off than any other bit of the UK. People also don't see the incredible poverty there is in London.

It's not just Scotland, it's not just the UK - it's not just Westminsters fault. The world has been in a fuck off sized recession and Westminster didn't create it. Yes it make some huge mistakes - but it's not the only govt to have done so. None of what has happened has only affected Scotland and actually, compared to most other countries we are climbing out of it 'ok'.

I get that you are upset & disappointed, I really, really do. I don't think being upset or disappointed is hysterical or over emotional, not at all. My heart felt very heavy watching some of the 'yes' voters being interviewed, I was quite tearful.

I don't know why you have wanted this since you were 8, I don't really understand that (maybe you can tell me sometime when you are ready) because to me we are all better off together. Like family we fight, but we are a family and why someone would want out of that baffles me?!

It's hard to watch people lose their dream, even when you don't think their dream was a wise one Wine

But irrespective of all of that - there is nothing to feel humiliated about.

x

Direwolf · 19/09/2014 21:27

One flag. One country. Nearly half of us wanted that. And we won't forget or move on. We have no choice but to accept. For the moment. I feel no animosity to the no voters. But it was not what I wanted or many that I know wanted. Democracy deems that the voice of Scotland have voted. But it was a whisper more than a shout. We need change and if that comes about through the no vote then i will be happy. If it doesn't then I will feel nothing but sadness for our country and for the people that voted no in good faith.

It's a sad sad day for many in Scotland. There is nothing to be proud of. Not yet. Time will tell.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/09/2014 21:27

Starwarslegoboy

You have totally misinterpreted what I was saying. On one of the earlier threads there was a discussion about whether people would sleep with various politicians to get the result they wanted. It was a funny, jokey, bit of Saturday night banter. It resulted in the posting of a picture of Tommy Sheridan on a sunbed mentioned upthread. It also resulted in a particularly dodgy photoshopped photo of Gordon Brown which put some people off their dinner. It is a sort of indyref thread joke which went in hand with the Tommy Sheridan sunbed.

I was not referring to anything about Gordon's policies.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 19/09/2014 21:30

Well I've only seen things like this on twitter so not sure of details but it felt like a punch to the gut (apologies for the tweet this pic is attached to, I didn't write this! It's v rude about no voters - it's the pic I'm showing you. twitter.com/yvonnemurray/status/512992136015675393 )

rootypig · 19/09/2014 21:33

Bowlers Ed Miliband is saying 'hang on a minute' because David Cameron is throwing in the English issues relevant to england at the same time.

That's the genius move. Watch Gove's response to the result - it's almost seamless. Miliband is caught between a rock and a hard place. The Tories don't have to give an arse about the Scots and don't, it's not their base. But they do have to deal with UKIP. They let Labour front the no campaign, so they'd carry the can either way.

Ah, I almost admire them.

rootypig · 19/09/2014 21:34

(And no, I don't think people shouldn't have voted no because of this, nor do I think they are responsible - it's just masterful, masterful politics.)

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 19/09/2014 21:38

Thanks for taking time to answer latte I actually live in London, I know about the poverty. Living here has opened my eyes much more to the divides between rich and poor and the problem of having a political elite.

I don't resent that the rest of uk should benefit from this too - that would be brilliant. My DH is English and so is my DS. I want good things for them all. I just wanted Scotland to be it's own boss and I'm adjusting to the fact that most others don't.

But like you - and I - said, this is day one I'm still flailing around at this stage, not knowing what to do with myself.

starwarslegoboy · 19/09/2014 21:38

Ok Stat. I don't agree that I 'misinterpreted'. It was an In joke. Sorry I'm not 'In'. How does one aquire such a status so that I will understand?

starwarslegoboy · 19/09/2014 21:39

acquire

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 19/09/2014 21:40

Direwolf

It was 10% - how much more of a margin would you have liked? Would you have called it a 'whisper not a shout' if it had been the other way around? Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/09/2014 21:42

oh for goodness sake. It was a joke you would get if you had been on previous threads which most of the posters on this thread had been. It's not about acquiring status. stop trying to see insult and offence where I mean absolutely none whatsoever.

Bowlersarm · 19/09/2014 21:42

Rooty that makes no sense to me. Anyway, Cameron will honour Scottish devolution. He also is happy with English devolution. Miliband doesn't want English devolution.

secret that's ambiguous. It looks as though it's anti Scot, but it's anti English devolution.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 19/09/2014 21:44

starwars really, give it up. You are making a fool of yourself.

ffallada · 19/09/2014 21:47

A friend has just called me - better together (the orange order, skin heads and generally people wearing union jacks) are rioting in George Square. They are attacking anyone who looks foreign (there are lots of foreign camera crews about).
Riot police on horses have been called in. People are being warned to stay away.

Trying to find a news source to confirm - but then the main stream news hasn't been to reliable these days.

Secretblackandmidnighthag · 19/09/2014 21:47

Cheers for cheering me up folks. I'm away to my scratcher. Devo for everybody! And pizza! And Tommy Sheridan on a su...wait, no.

Veritata · 19/09/2014 21:47

Ok Stat. I don't agree that I 'misinterpreted'. It was an In joke. Sorry I'm not 'In'. How does one aquire such a status so that I will understand

Read the threads?

rootypig · 19/09/2014 21:47

Oh! I thought I explained it rather well.

Grin
starwarslegoboy · 19/09/2014 21:47

No. Noone can read all these threads, well if they have a job anyway. Noone should be expected to get a joke that is is pretty much offensive to others. I'm sure it has been great during all these threads but you seriously can't expect everyone to have read them all

MorrisZapp · 19/09/2014 21:49

Exactly Bowlersarm. On my FB feed, it seems as if some yes voters want the worst possible outcome and will interpret the news how they see fit.

For instance, linking a Sky News rolling TV headline taken from a telly and calling it news. Whilst ignoring the story behind it.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 19/09/2014 21:49

secret Why do you feel so strongly that Scotland shouldn't be part of the UK and how do you reconcile that feeling with living in the UK? (Mind you, today might not be the day for this conversation, so we can leave it while you lick your wounds if you'd prefer Wine)

But re the picture, that's EM going 'no the fuck way do I want England getting devo' - not Scotland.
