Why should he resign?

gertiegusset · 19/09/2014 06:21

Looks like I get to keep my hat!

SirChenjin · 19/09/2014 06:21

No, didn't think he would resign. He's going to stay and fight for Scotland and the Scottish people, isn't he. A modern day William Wallace, thank man. God bless you, Mr Salmond, Sir Grin

SantanaLopez · 19/09/2014 06:21

Fucker.

PhaedraIsMyName · 19/09/2014 06:22

And can stop calling everyone who voted a "Scot" ?

I agree with him re 16 and 17 year olds and non voters but it's not a very gracious speech.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 19/09/2014 06:22

Morning, I've woke up and my first thought was I wonder if Santana has to move house. So relieved for you Flowers

Incredible thread, even without a vote I've never been so engaged with politics before. So thanks to some amazing yes and no voters, from a long term lurker, with the very occasional post.

I hope the coming weeks are time for reflection and reconciliation. I think British politics will change forever so thanks again.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 19/09/2014 06:22

Ah, that's good then.

SirChenjin · 19/09/2014 06:23

I wonder if that means there are sausages rolls going a' begging from the party that AS etc had planned on throwing?

squoosh · 19/09/2014 06:23

He's going on a bit now.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/09/2014 06:23

Why does it sound like hes gonna go sulk now?

RJnomore · 19/09/2014 06:23

Summary for sir - resounding victory for democratic process and involving people, inspiring, touched sections of the community who have never before been touched by politics (isn't that vaguely creepy Grin) Scotland bill by march fear in Westminster

dementedma · 19/09/2014 06:24

Sour speech from Salmond!

EarthWindFire · 19/09/2014 06:24

How long is his speech going to be!?.....

GrouchyKiwi · 19/09/2014 06:24

This is a bad speech for a time like this. Distinctly lacking in grace.

Roseformeplease · 19/09/2014 06:24

It was Mumsnet wot won it.

Flowers for all the amazing people on here who kept me sane and helped me back up my instincts with logic and fact.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 19/09/2014 06:25

Utterly relieved - and I'm English! Hopefully we can all move forward now to push for the changes that we all want for our United Kingdom. Let's leave the animosity and division behind now Flowers

SantanaLopez · 19/09/2014 06:25

Grin Rose!

SirChenjin · 19/09/2014 06:25

Phaed - that whole Scot/Scottish people thing from AS gets my goat. It ignores the fact that not everyone who lives here is Scottish.

sashh · 19/09/2014 06:25

Is it me or is he saying 'you'll do better next time' like you might to a child learning to ride a bike

rootypig · 19/09/2014 06:26

Alex Salmond has in large part brought about one of the most compelling democratic events in our country's history. His campaign doubled the support for independence. The establishment, with all its might, has only just beaten him. He has nothing to resign for.

What is more, his message, that a victory for noes is NOT back to business, is the healthiest thing now for a very divided Scotland. 1.6m votes is not a joke.

FindoGask · 19/09/2014 06:26

It wasn't a sour speech at all! I thought it was good that he was asking everyone to get behind the result. There will be plenty of congratulatory back-slapping from the Better Together people later if that's what you're after.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/09/2014 06:26

all round!

OP posts:
TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/09/2014 06:26

I agree Orange I can understand the desire to make changes, but its not just Scotland that want to see those changes, we all do, it might happen now.

Skinidin · 19/09/2014 06:26

I am a Scot by marriage and my two younger children have grown up and done very well in the Scottish system.

However, until just now I have felt intimidated to express my desire to stay in the union.

So very happy.
