I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

LovelyRita I don't think your last comment is fair at all.

I too buy British where I can to support our economy.

I Scotland becomes independent, not buying Scottish goods is not a sign of bitterness, any more than not buying French goods for the same reason is now.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:46

You're right there Thom.

I wonder what kind of mess the in/out EU referendum David has planned will cause

atticusclaw · 18/09/2014 14:47

Grovel DH has plans to set up a distillery in the back garden (along with a caramel wafer production line)

lifelorn · 18/09/2014 14:47

Do not worry Grovel www.englishwhisky.co.uk/the-distillery/distillery-tours you too will have a choice!

Veritata · 18/09/2014 14:47

OP, if you've voted for interdependence, you've just wasted your vote.

I'm waiting with depression for all the conspiracy theorists to come out of the woodwork if the outcome is No.

ProfessorVonIgelfeld · 18/09/2014 14:48

Grow the fuck up. This isn't about you.

But it does affect ! You need to grow the fuck up if you think that this only affects you in Scotland! Hmm

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:48

2 million? Come on. You could have googled that in half a second

I'm wondering how restricted the diets of those that only buy British are. Doesn't sound appealing.

ProfessorVonIgelfeld · 18/09/2014 14:48

But it does affect rUK. Doh!

Oooh the negativity. I'm English, living in England and I think this referendum is bloody exciting. Something like 97% of Scottish residents have registered to vote. Whatever the outcome, this is democracy in action.

If I lived in Scotland, I would vote Yes.

bigkidsdidit · 18/09/2014 14:49

I'm English and I voted yes and I felt exactly the same op :) it was quite emotional

19lottie82 · 18/09/2014 14:50

area52 - re Norway......... have you actually done any research in to it's history, rather than assuming it's the land of milk and honey?

firstly, Norway has taken almost 70 years to get where they are today, and along the way dropped into great depressions. At one point oil was only worth $10 a barrel.

And in their present day, they have one of the highest suicide rates in the world for young men.

the wages may be higher, but the taxes and day to day living costs are horrendous. Norwegians are prob worse off than us in terms of what they can buy with their wages.

mateysmum · 18/09/2014 14:51

atticus I agree, this is about all of us not just the Scots. Last time I looked we were all still part of the same nation. That a simple majority vote could decide the fate of the UK for all of us is scandalous.

Today's vote could achieve what two world wars failed to do, the destruction of one of the most successful nations in the world - a decision based for some on the so called "privatisation of the NHS" - not the policy of any party and the idea that getting rid of "the Westminster elite" is a good reason to become independent.

Sorry for ranting but I just feel we are all sleep walking into disaster - maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday we will all come to regret this.

DidoTheDodo · 18/09/2014 14:51

There seems to be a reasonably high number of people here who would review their spending habits and not buy Scottish produce (me included) If that number was extended to the whole population then it could be quite a blow for any new Scottish economy, who may have based financial projections on current habits.

DamnBamboo · 18/09/2014 14:52

Why would you think a British diet is restricted?

The point being is if you can buy rUK beef or scottish beef I would buy the former. If however beef was not avaiable and I could only buy in from France/Germany/Scotland etc. then I would make my decision based on other things.

Choosing to buy British does not mean you have a limited diet at all.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:52

9 quid a pint anaw!

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:52

Sounds exhausting bamboo. Do you have a list in preferential order?

DidoTheDodo · 18/09/2014 14:53

is "anaw" a word? If so, translation please.

SoonToBeSix · 18/09/2014 14:53

Op you naivety is almost endearing.

Kendodd · 18/09/2014 14:53

"Whatever the outcome, this is democracy in action."

Except, approximately 4% (?) of the UK population could choose to break up the union, the other 96% may not have wanted this.

Fontella · 18/09/2014 14:53

2 million? Come on. You could have googled that in half a second

I thought that was being rather generous actually/ How many people do you estimate will be voting for independence out of a Scottish electorate of around 4 million then?

I've given you half? 50%. Not enough you think?

grovel · 18/09/2014 14:54

Thanks for the whisky info. I'll try them out.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:55

So your 2million refers to your estimated number of yes voters? Mot the Scottish population? Because that wasn't clear.

19lottie82 · 18/09/2014 14:56

is "anaw" a word? If so, translation please.

Scottish slang for "also" :D

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:57

Mair o an 'as well'in my sentence but I'll let you aff wi' that!
