I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

Who is saying piss of? You're going to see a lot of confrontation if that's you're interpretation of what's happening.

Have you read much? Spoke to people? I'm curious as to how you've concluded that this long thought out referendum is Scotland saying piss off?

KidLorneRoll · 18/09/2014 14:35

All you people coming out with shite like "don't come crying back to us" and "I won't buy Scottish" -> Grow the fuck up. This isn't about you.

MehsMum · 18/09/2014 14:35

*LovelyRita:
'Westminster and the establishment isn't fit for purpose'

Too true. But is Alex Salmond that much better? I think he called it 'scaremongering' when RBS said it would relocate its HQ to London in the event of a 'Yes'. Really? Nothing to do with international law about how bank HQs have to be located in the country where they do most of their business? Either he didn't know - when he should - or did know but preferred not to mention it.

Fontella · 18/09/2014 14:35

Westminster and the establishment isn't fit for purpose

What do you think Holyrood is? What do you think the Scottish Government is? It's the establishment ffs!

You take Westminster out of the equation and you will still be governed in precisely the same way, just from a different source. They will tax you and they will decide how your money is spent in exactly the same way. What makes you think they are any more 'fit for purpose' than Westminster?

You've fallen hook, line and sinker for that 'Westminster/Establishment' crap that's been shoved down your throat by Salmond and co. The way supporters of the 'yes' campaign supporters parrot his lines ad infinitum, shows how brainwashed you are.

Westminster - source of all that is wrong in Scotland. Doubtless when it all goes tits up, it will still be 'Westminster's' fault.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 18/09/2014 14:36

Rita YOU might want to go it alone. AS wants to KEEP more than he's willing to give up! That's not 'going it alone'.

Shockers · 18/09/2014 14:36

cafevelo, much respect to you for your post. I sincerely hope you get the result you hope for, both in the long and short term.

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 14:37

He wants to, he's not necessarily going to get it though is he?

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:40

You assume I'm going to defend salmond? Why?

Representation is much fairer in holyrood.

atticusclaw · 18/09/2014 14:41

All you people coming out with shite like "don't come crying back to us" and "I won't buy Scottish" -> Grow the fuck up. This isn't about you.

it is about us actually. This will affect every one of us. I try to buy products from my own country to support my country's economy. At the moment this includes Scotland, if Scotland leaves the UK I would be sending my money out of the country by buying Scottish products therefore I will try not to do that.

HaroldsBishop · 18/09/2014 14:41

Important question: What will the implication of a "yes" vote be on the supply of shortbread in the south?

Thomyorke · 18/09/2014 14:42

Not buying Scottish is not about you, it is about keeping money in our economy and supporting our farmers, businesses etc.

Thomyorke · 18/09/2014 14:42

XPost

lifelorn · 18/09/2014 14:42

Kid you are correct it isn't about us - it is about choice. In an adult world we make our own. Mine is to support my own economic environment, I have no vote but I do have choice.

Does it also mean we will have different time zones, as I believe the current arrangement is for the benefit of our friends in the north?

atticusclaw · 18/09/2014 14:43

DH is not happy about the lack of Tunnocks Caramel Wafers in our cupboards if there's a yes vote Grin

MehsMum · 18/09/2014 14:43

Oddly, Rita, I assumed you might like the man who has led the drive for the independence you long for.

Perhaps I was wrong.

grovel · 18/09/2014 14:43

The problem with boycotting is that I'm not aware of any rUK whisky distillers. The Scots could piss in my face but I'm not giving up my single malt.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:44

Wow.

I'm sorry our referendum has caused you so much turmoil. I will think of you as you pootle around Tesco peering bitterly at every label to make sure you don't inadvertently keep us afloat.

Do you realise how ridiculous you sound?

Thomyorke · 18/09/2014 14:44

Tbh I could imagine the farmers are more worried about their EU subsidies.

ProfessorVonIgelfeld · 18/09/2014 14:44

Area 52 yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

Spouting this nonsense, I think you are suffering from a nasty dose of Salmondella, Area 52!

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 18/09/2014 14:44

I'm interested in what happens to the Scottish people. They go, they go. Whatever. I'm English. It's sad but we will be fine. But the Scottish people living in Scotland. What about the remaining approximate 50% who didn't want it. Will there be pressure, nationalism, rioting etc... I'm thinking NI but milder. Will the country itself struggle coming to terms with the decision or will the no voters and yes voters unite?

I'm still optimistic for a no vote though!

tilliebob · 18/09/2014 14:44

I'm with cafevelo Grin

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 14:44

Grin Grovel.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:45

Mehs do you have much of an understanding of the yes campaign?

It's chairman is an ex Labour mp for example.

ajandjjmum · 18/09/2014 14:46

IF it's a 'yes' and if it does all go pear shaped as many who know far more than me are predicting......what will happen?

Fontella · 18/09/2014 14:46

All you people coming out with shite like "don't come crying back to us" and "I won't buy Scottish" -> Grow the fuck up. This isn't about you.

Silly us, for even thinking as citizens of the UK, that this is anything to do with us. It is of course - all about you. All 2 million or so of you (rough estimate) maybe less, maybe more, and the other 63 million - Scots, Welsh, English, Northern irish who you share these islands with are completely irrelevant.

You want to break away from the rest of the UK, that's your choice. But then don't start throwing tantrums when you discover that the independence you crave, is just that - independence. And that the people across the border you are erecting (metaphorically speaking) will spend their money where they want to spend their money. rUK will remain a free country with free choice, and people will holiday where they choose, and buy what they choose. They may holiday in Scotland, they may buy Scottish products - they may not. But that's up to them.

Scotland will no longer have any say in the matter.
