to feel happy and excited about voting YES!

I am just back from the polling booth and can say that I have never felt so positive about voting. The feeling that my vote is actually counting, rather than being swalowed up as is the case with Westminster voting, is also fantastic.

IMO a yes vote will reinvigorate the whole of Britain and, amongst other things, allow Scotland and England build better relations as equal but interdependent neighbours and allies.

Yes, I see that now ladies.

I'm Welsh .. we're a bit touchy. It's the dragon in us ...

daisychain01 · 18/09/2014 14:04

Is there any indication yet what the situation is, through exit poles for example?

blondiebonce · 18/09/2014 14:08

I agree with you lifelorn but it'll be us bailing them out when it inevitably goes tits up.

I think you've got your arse in parsley.

DamnBamboo · 18/09/2014 14:13

Interdependent neighbours!

Is that what you really think?

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:13

Do people not realise, or indeed even car, how petty they sound when they start frothing about not buying Scottish products. It's cringey and actually pretty vile.

This isn't a tantrum, this isn't Scotland stripping off, we just want to go it alone. It's nothing personal. Don't take it as such.

Westminster and the establishment isn't fit for purpose, we've got a chance to do things differently. This isn't a hostile takeover or even abandonment.

Waltermittythesequel · 18/09/2014 14:14

I'm Irish so no vested interest here but wow, some of you are taking this very personally!

My MIL was all arsey about it last night, too.

Sounding like a bitter ex throwing a tantrum!

Waltermittythesequel · 18/09/2014 14:15

*to clarify: all the "fine I'm never buying Scottish again" nonsense!

blondiebonce · 18/09/2014 14:18

Rita 1. Not "we"- it sounds like half the Scottish population disagree with you

  1. You make Scotland seem like a stroppy teenager that wants their own way but know mummy and daddy will bail them out as soon as the big bad world gets a bit much.

Look, agree to disagree but I personally think you will struggle. I hope I'm wrong.

dangly131 · 18/09/2014 14:19

I think it is sad that so many who are voting YES are showing pure hatred for England. But as one person's analogy on Facebook put this whole interdependency thing very nicely...'if your next door neighbour put up a sign in his front garden saying how much he hated living next door to you and wanted to be free of you and called your children names. Would you still be happy to lend him your power drill when he needed it?'

lifelorn · 18/09/2014 14:20

Just to confirm then Lovelyrita you "just want to go it alone" and that is not abandonment?

Well I hope many other Brits will join me in the only vote I have.

My money - I will choose where it ends up.

daisychain01 · 18/09/2014 14:23

Just pmsl at my typo

Polls

Thomyorke · 18/09/2014 14:25

I only buy british for meat/ fish, I will not buy Scottish if independence for no other reason than the money does not return to my economy. In the same way I only buy Welsh lamb and not New Zealand. There are other people like me and why the place the flag on the packet.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:26

That's right, we're taking our opportunity to shape our country. I hope that you get yours at some point do. Hopefully a Yes vote will prompt people into action in the rUK.

In the meantime don't deny yourself the things you enjoy in some bitter attempt to make a point.

Fontella · 18/09/2014 14:26

I agree with you lifelorn but it'll be us bailing them out when it inevitably goes tits up.

That won't happen. Not the 'tits up' bit but the 'baiing out' bit. Scotland will be a fully independent country (outside the EU for the foreseeable future) and there will be no fiscal, economic or political integration of any kind with rUK. That has been made categorically clear time and time again, although currently, no one in the Scottish Government seems to be listening.

However, they'll have to take their fingers out of their ears sooner or later when Mr Salmond hands over his list of demands and it comes back stamped 'No'

If they go tits up - they'll have to go cap in hand to the IMF or the Chinese, because rUK will not be providing a bailout fund - it would be political suicide for whichever party was in power to even consider doing so.

They want to go it alone .. then it will be with all the consequences - good and bad, not least the economic ones.

Independence means just that - independence.

atticusclaw · 18/09/2014 14:27

I didn't say we can't be friends OP. I do however believe we will be very separate if there is an independent Scotland. The rest of the UK will be forced to look after its own interests and treat Scotland as any other foreign country. Hopefully friendly but you never know what is around the corner. I also believe there will have to be physical borders due to immigration control and customs issues.

If this happened it is going to cost us all billions. Its very sad for everyone.

I can also understand those who are saying they won't buy scottish. Its not due to hatred of the Scots, its due to trying to ensure the economic wellbeing of our own country. Just as consumers are currently urged to buy British. I currently try to buy British. If Scotland goes I will buy UK.

Oh and before you go quoting Norway as an example you should read the FT piece on Norway and how its journey is very different from Scotland. The level of taxes in Norway is far higher than in Scotland.

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 14:28

I do hope it is a no because I don't much fancy the economic uncertainty a yes will bring, but I am curious as to what will happen with a yes.

I am welsh and certainly wouldn't be boycotting Scottish products and holidays, that's on a par with the England hatin' which is allegedly going on.

Shame Wales and Scotland aren't neighbours, we get along a little better I think.

Skina · 18/09/2014 14:28

Go for it Scotland. Want out, go. I honestly think we'll (the rest of us) will be better off in the long run.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 18/09/2014 14:28

A stroppy teenager? Mum and dad?

That analogy says a lot more about your perception of the union than you maybe thought it would.

daisychain01 · 18/09/2014 14:28

Im scratching my head with this one...

Piss off, we don't want or need you, hate the sight of you, cant wait to see the back of you, but by the way we'll all skip hand in hand into the sunset, because you such a lovely neighbour.

[sigh]

mateysmum · 18/09/2014 14:29

But OP, we won't be equal will we. RUK is far bigger in population/economy/resources etc. etc. Scotland will not in the short term be a member of the EU; it will not apparently not be in control of its own currency

According to the YES campaign what lies ahead for independence is sunlit uplands and economic paradise - but without any of the hard questions about how that will be achieved being answered.

Your vote is still worth the same as it was before - 1 person, 1 vote. Do you not think there are many areas of the UK that "did not get the government they voted for" - that is democracy.

You seriously think independence will lead to better relations with the rest of the UK!! Put head in hands and weeps

If Scots truly want independence good luck to them, but please, do it for the right reasons (not saying you are not OP).

Waltermittythesequel · 18/09/2014 14:30

Why are please so offended?!

"Fine, go then."

It's a bit embarrassing is it not?

Kendodd · 18/09/2014 14:30

And if the outcome is NO?

Will you still feel happy that you have had the chance to vote or will you be bitter and resentful that some people chose to block your path?

Genuine question. I think a lot of friends/families will be falling out over this.

I'm English, in England and personally I hope Yes wins. I think this question will just keep being revisited until Yes wins so at least a Yes now would be final. I think Cameron would be booted out if Yes wins (great) but couldn't bear the sight of Salmond's smug face (won't last long though). Also it might be great news for England when loads of jobs move south Grin

Really I think a split will result in huge economic pain that will last for years and years and years. Ultimately though, I think things will rebalance and it will all be okay. And besides, some things are worth more than money.

HaroldLloyd · 18/09/2014 14:32

A yes might not have so much support in future years..

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 14:33

Sounds identical to a UKIP campaign.
Sounds great in theory, but not so easy to put into practice.
