This is continuation of the previous threads. I'm hoping this can be a thread for civilised debate and discussion from people on both sides of the voting line, and where undecided voters can come and chat and get opinions.

Some of the previous threads have gone downhill. So for the sake of a good discussion can everyone please try to avoid nasty comments about the other side? References to Nazis, people being selfish, stupid, thick etc don't help anyone. This vote will be over and the votes counted in about 48 hours. After that we have to pull together whatever the outcome.

Ah is it more a neighbour problem? You could say you had abstained or just tell them you voted on their side.

That's the beauty of a secret ballot.

trixymalixy · 17/09/2014 10:12

Morris, please vote. It's so important.

MindReader · 17/09/2014 10:12

Latte thanks for asking.
Ds is more chipper about his pal this am I am pleased to say.
But worried about school, as ever.
This is the child whose dyslexia traits have been 'explained away' by the local Council as 'he can't spell because he has a right English accent like his parents'.....
Now, I know lots of schools are rubbish with SEN but to justify a lack of recognition / provision (no basic learning plan still, by the age of 10, yet cannot spell: 'two' 'school' 'book' etc) as a problem with 'his right English accent' is unusually horrifying, I would have thought any right minded person could see (but according to our Council, following the CfE, it is not them who are not 'right minded').

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:12

Morris don't tell anyone your intentions. It's up to you how you vote. I know people who are saying nothing about it. No one should be forced to vote one way or the other.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 17/09/2014 10:12

I agree then that is ridiculous Irn Bru Kevin needed to fight his corner on that one and provide balance by interviewing some young men voting No.

WildThong · 17/09/2014 10:13

Can anyone think of a neutral, respected leader in Scotland who could form a reconciliation forum

Wish we had a John Smith

chocoluvva · 17/09/2014 10:14

Morriszapp your family won't know which way you vote.

Spiritedwolf · 17/09/2014 10:14

MorrisZap Your vote is just as valid as theirs. Please use it. (I'd say the same if your situation was reversed). Everyone should have their say. You don't have to tell family that you voted or how you voted.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/09/2014 10:14

I have two small girls and I dreamed last night that my toddler put a tick in the wrong box for me! Will be keeping her well back while I vote...

Cannot wait for the campaigning to be over. Dreading the aftermath of the result. Hope my fears are over the top.

But I too don't see how we can all be easily reconciled if it is a close vote.

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:14

Why not find guys who were voting No through their own choosing rather asking them to lie??? But if all his pals were voting Yes why not just air it that way on TV? They are entitled to vote Yes if they like.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2014 10:15

Morris do you know why they are so angry?

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 10:15

Mindreader it is very sad :( Sometimes though my love, self preservation (and protecting your children of course) comes first. However, given your DS knows you are voting 'No' that particular ruse might not work, unless you plan to tell your DS you changed your mind or that you lied to your neighbours. It's crap.

BookABooSue unfortunately your DH wont be the only one like that, the question is badly phrased from a NO point of view.

trixy I think for people like mindreader who are in a small village that's not so easy to do when they are your neighbours, local shop owners, school friends parents etc.

Bardar I think in mindreaders case though it's a bit different, she has already said that down to her accent people assume she will be voting 'no' if she says 'no comment'.

BMW6 · 17/09/2014 10:15

Irnbru - but that makes no sense - if the beeb wanted to employ propaganda surely they would have filmed all saying NO - and then stage a boat "accident" so they can't tell tales after Grin

Perhaps the truth is that they are covering their arses in the face of the rabid Yessers that will bay for their blood otherwise Wink

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:16

BookABooSue

"tbh they would have been better just not asking the question rather than asking people to lie about their intentions."

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spiritedwolf · 17/09/2014 10:16

No one has to justify their vote to anyone else. We only talk about why we're voting and challenge each other on these threads because we enjoy the anonymous political discussion and are all here voluntarily and can choose not to reply.

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:17

I think it's completely wrong what was done on the Kevin Bridges show. It just goes to show that the majority on the boat are for a Yes vote. It should have been shown that way or not at all mentioned.

BookABooSue · 17/09/2014 10:18

grandtheft I think that's an odd question. People will put up with the same as they do in the UK. I don't think anyone is voting to run the country into the ground or to make Scotland worse. However if there are problems or difficulties then as a country or as an individual then you respond to them.

The same way that if the UK introduces legislation that disadvantages certain sectors of society, enters wars or adopts policies that seem (to many) to be leading the country down the wrong path then you campaign for change and you vote accordingly.

BMW6 · 17/09/2014 10:19

You assume the BBC is lying - maybe Kevin Bridger and his pals are.....I can see why they would after the show was aired. They probably want to keep their windows (and faces) intact!

Lets face it - they are much more likely to be intimidated than the BBC don't you think?

weebarra · 17/09/2014 10:19

My DSis won't be voting as she's currently a psychiatric inpatient, so there will be a few people like that. I also have a friend who is genuinely so undecided she may not vote.

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:20

Yesterday's news about the NHS budget cuts in even more of an argument to vote Yes now. Another OG.

IrnBruTheNoo · 17/09/2014 10:22

"Lets face it - they are much more likely to be intimidated than the BBC don't you think?"

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? They should have been allowed to all say Yes on the boat or not at all. Giving a false impression has now backfired.

I think we can agree to disagree on this one :)

BardarbungaBardarbing · 17/09/2014 10:22

Latte Yes I see that now.

Peronally, with aggressive neighbours I'd go for saying I had thought about it again and voted yes as a democratic decision so Scotland gets the government Scotland votes for.

After having used the secret ballot.

Lying in these circumstances seems the sensible choice.

BookABooSue · 17/09/2014 10:23

BMW I love the idea of the BBC staging 'accidents' to cover their commitment to impartiality Grin

chocoluvva · 17/09/2014 10:23

Irn - the BBC should not have asked anyone to say anything for the purposes of appearing to be fair.

But equally, the friends of KB presumably didn't have to say anything. It's up to them to say what they want to say or say nothing. I'm sure they could have refused to say that they were going to vote no. I don't know them obviously or the rights of this, but they could have been happy to falsely declare as being no with every intention of later citing this as evidence of the BBC being biased. I'm not explaining this very well. Sorry. The point remains though, why didn't they refuse to say they were no voters if they're planning to vote yes?

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 17/09/2014 10:23

Freddie Brew No probs, I was just a bit confused Grin

MorrisZap I am sorry you are being pressured by your family, that's deeply unpleasant. I think you should vote though - every vote counts.

Mindreader bloody hell, that's awful, truly awful :( Christ on a bike, he's English, learning errrr English?!?! How in gods name are they getting away with saying it's because he's English?????????

I'm glad he's feeling a bit more positive about his mate this morning though :)
