LatteLoverLovesLattes · 16/09/2014 22:02

Anyone know of any debates etc that are on now or tomorrow?

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 16/09/2014 22:03

Thanks SC - keep our fingers crossed hey.

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 22:04

Wow so that's all 3 polls the same tonight!

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 16/09/2014 22:06

Yes annie there's hope yet.

SantanaLopez · 16/09/2014 22:06

Wow so that's all 3 polls the same tonight!

That's really unusual!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 22:07

Yup, although the difference in the don't knows is significant - between 6% and 14%

squoosh · 16/09/2014 22:07

This is the front page of tomorrow's Scottish Sun. Looks like Murdoch has changed his mind.

Anyone know how we can spread the word further that not voting isn't the same as a "no" vote?

Great point made earlier on that.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 16/09/2014 22:08

One major thing that has been glossed over is actual health care - people in Scotland who currently come to England for treatment. Scotland doesn't have the specialists that England does.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 16/09/2014 22:09

So impressed by Gordon Brown. He is actually a very intelligent and considered man. I had forgotten to be honest.

Good point about the vast majority wanting to keep the UK pound, UK welfare, etc.

flippinada · 16/09/2014 22:09

I did actually watch GB and AS in the end. What did anyone here who watched it make of the interviews?

I was feeling quite shaken up and upset after after the incident earlier today but coming on here and discussing stuff has helped.

The Sun has always been credited with turning the 1992 election but I went to uni with someone who worked for the Tories on that campaign and I think a lot of it was bloody hard grassroot work in key constituencies, getting apathetic voters who made not have bothered out of their houses. From what you hear about the BT campaign, they don't seem that organized on a grassroots level. I feel this referendum will be won by getting people out of their houses down to polling stations. In other words, I'm not sure the Sun will be a game changer.

PlasticPinkFlamingo · 16/09/2014 22:11

Don't think this has been posted. It's worth a read. blogs.spectator.co.uk/nick-cohen/2014/09/scottish-nationalism-turning-neighbours-into-foreigners/

Roseformeplease · 16/09/2014 22:11

Do I read that right? The Sun is on the fence?

moggiek · 16/09/2014 22:11

Very true, Latte.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 16/09/2014 22:12

What channel were they on flippin?

flippinada · 16/09/2014 22:13

Bloody hell squoosh how did you find that?

BakerStreet cross posts. I thought GB came across very well. Considered, articulate and intelligent. AS seems very glib (although I would say that) and I noticed at the end he flapped a bit around the currency question.

I have followed these threads with a mixture of awe and respect for those of you who are living through this. I am so grateful to you for your facts, figures, links and experiences. I don't know what I can do - I can't vote - but I am thinking of you, (on both sides of the argument).

I love Scotland. I love the UK. I am in England and dreading a YES vote.

I hope that you all sleep well tonight

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 22:14

latte that issue was raised at the TV debate a couple of nights ago by a consultant surgeon for the NHS who was v passionate about Scotland not having the resource to treat people with conditions that needed specialist help. She was basically shouted down. Hmm

Just twitter flippinada, Murdoch must have decided Yes didn't look like the winning horse. That's most definitely a fence sitting image.

flippinada · 16/09/2014 22:17

My impression is, he's waiting to see which way the wind blows. It's not an endorsement of either is it?

OP posts:
cricketpitch · 16/09/2014 22:17

I watched AS - the end of the interview. AS came over better than in other interviews in that he was calm and measured BUT he just kept saying that he believed the rUK would give him what he wanted - there was no understanding that he might not get it all IN SPITE of the fact that he has been told he won't in no uncertain terms. That is worrying. I would have liked to have seen him pushed but doubt it would have made much difference.

ChelsyHandy · 16/09/2014 22:17

Latte One major thing that has been glossed over is actual health care - people in Scotland who currently come to England for treatment. Scotland doesn't have the specialists that England does.

That's a very good point. Edinburgh and Glasgow are not bad, but I lived in Aberdeen once and basically my specialists in the other places warned me away from using someone there as they struggled to fill the posts and you might not get someone you would be happy with. I'm guessing the Scottish Health Service would have to pay even more to attract specialists to even Edinburgh and Glasgow in the event of independence, particularly if they're going to have to pay so much tax on their income that they end up earning the same as a nurse or a cleaner.
