Not seen the other thread either. BT Anonymous ffs - god forbid we might have a different view.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 16/09/2014 21:15

Of course Scotland could do it. The question is, should it?

At the moment, where we are, with it likely to be a bitter and protracted divorce, I don't think it should. I would much rather everyone calmed down, WM took Scotland seriously in its political aspirations, and it become a more measured negotiation, further devolution, then a final referendum on complete independence.

I spose a sort of 'conscious uncoupling'

This is interesting. I do wonder the impact of this situation on potentially influencing decisions on long term UK shared projects e.g. infrastructure on the scale of Faslane or similar. I.e. As there will be another independence referendum in the future in the event of a no vote, in the meantime, would the uk consider placing infrastructure for shared resource in Scotland due to the 'flight risk' and subsequent massive cost to the uk to relocate in the event of separation?

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 21:15

Scottish Independence Poll (Opinium):
YES - 45%
NO - 49%
(DK) - 6%

Survation due at 10.

browneyedgirl86 · 16/09/2014 21:15

Yup I kid you not, when I pointed out the vote is personal choice and everyone has the right to vote whichever way they want, I was told that as a yes voter she takes it very seriously and that wasting my vote may impact on her children's future and that's why she (and others) backs are getting up.

I wish I was joking.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 21:18

For goodness sake that's ridiculous. Her vote may impact on our children's future.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 16/09/2014 21:18

Ah weel, it was only so long before even MN became infected with the badness

Hmm

Charming. The badness you see are people who feel about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit here.

MindReader · 16/09/2014 21:20

" Someone said (on an earlier thread ) that they don't think Salmond did want this, that he was just basically stirring everyone up to get DevoMax or an equivalent and they thought he was probably not sleeping wondering how the actual fuck he was going to pull this off if there is a yes win. "

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Night night all.
Not long now...

My ds went to bed in tears tonight.
Worried his best best friend wont speak to him tomorrow due to al the Yes signs plastered over his house (I think he will, they are good folk).
Worried his other good friend will move south.
He's 9.
This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO divisive and sad.

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 21:21

Stay WildThong - I need someone to watch telly with!

I think i got the wrong thread there and it might have been another one you were talking about.

MindReader · 16/09/2014 21:21

sorry if not clear: 'all the Yes signs plastered over his (best friends) house'

ChelsyHandy · 16/09/2014 21:24

GB on tv has just said that Scotland in the 16th and 17th Centuries was known for being quite an intolerant place.

Not a fan of GB but he makes a welcome relief from Shouty and his sidekick.

Some things never change...

browneyedgirl86 · 16/09/2014 21:24

Yup. But I left it there as her attitude was anyone not voting yes was/is WRONG. I didn't like the implication that as someone not voting yes, I was taking my vote less seriously than her.

Cambiodenombre · 16/09/2014 21:26

Message on twitter saying Scottish Sun set to come out and have its say. There will be a lot of disappointed yes supporters if they favour no. I can't call it! Murdoch seemed a slam dunk to support yes but his tweets over weekend were very cryptic....we'll see soon enough

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 16/09/2014 21:27

mindreader Sorry to hear that, hope he feels better tomorrow Flowers

Roonerspism · 16/09/2014 21:28

I think GB speaks very well. He is smart and reasoned.

It was me that suggested Salmond is crapping himself. I still think it :) he could have a heck of a job on his hands come Friday. His hard work might just be beginning!

Roonerspism · 16/09/2014 21:29

mind I'm sorry about your DS. He sounds very sensitive and enlightened Flowers

grandtheftmanual · 16/09/2014 21:30

Irnbru please link to kevin bridges stuff you reference - can't find this anywhere - thks

WildThong · 16/09/2014 21:31

Didn't mean you or anyone in particular lovely I just meant the divisions normally seen other places like Facebook, when so far we have managed to debate together. No offence meant.

flippinada · 16/09/2014 21:33

I thought GB came across pretty well. I actually can't bear to watch AS, I'm afraid.

mindreader sorry to hear about your boy. My DS is the same age. Hope he feels better tomorrow.

Rooners It was me that suggested Salmond is crapping himself. I still think it smile he could have a heck of a job on his hands come Friday. His hard work might just be beginning!

He would just "stand aside", (perhaps drawing another special parliamentary payment to help him adjust to a life outside politics, as he did when retiring from Westminster), and let others try to clear up the mess.

He has one goal, and one goal alone, and that is to achieve independence. Everything he says or does is designed at achieving this goal. Its not about whats good for the economy, or the poor, or justice, its about achieving this one aim. And even AS preferred Devo Max.

Its all gone crazy!

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 21:35

I for one am really sad that this thread has become partisan. As I said before, I was an undecided for a very very long time, and still romantically like the idea of an independent Scotland. Just not now, and not like this. I have also been really badly put off by the yes campaign's tactics - particularly recently.

I am really sad that this thread seems to represent the madness around me, where people are dividing up, whispering and smearing each other. It is so fucking childish that a sector of them have broken off to laugh at the nos here. Its very very sad.

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 21:36

GB was very good I thought. They should have involved him earlier in the campaign.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 21:37

I am too Cedric. What seems to have happened is that the Yes voters have for whatever reason gone over to the other thread to make sly digs. No need. Defend your views and talk about them properly rather than making out that we're some sort of bullying clique. These threads had been really informative and useful until today.

Fontella · 16/09/2014 21:37

If 3,428,258 vote on Thursday and there are no spoiled ballot papers (unlikely I know - but let's say for arguments sakes none are).

To get a majority one side would need to get 1,714,130 votes

So let's say 1.8 million (just over half of those eligible) vote 'Yes'.

A nation of 64.1 million people will effectively cease to exist in its present form on the basis of 1.8 million ticking 'yes' on a ballot paper.

I know that's democracy in action, but f*ing hell - it's all change at Euston because of what 1/35th of the current population of the UK want?
