Hope everyone doesn't mind, I'm to keep the discussion going. As you were folks :)

It will be what it will be dementedma and one can only hope that good sense will prevail with the parties' leaders setting the tone. For what it's worth I don't think that there will be any specific anti-Englishness if the No vote prevails as long as the SNP handle the situation well. I think that non-politician Scots are only too well aware both of the potential for trouble and of the fact that no-one will 'win' this referendum. We shall all lose in some way.

SapphireMoon · 16/09/2014 16:55

Bloody hell Cedric the Yes team must love that people like your hairdresser think like that.
How to get the message out widely that her view is wrong and 'No' voters need to vote??

ChelsyHandy · 16/09/2014 16:57

I've just been told by a Yes supporter on another thread that I'm leaving Scotland if it becomes independent because of my husband's job!!!

I have never said any such thing. Do they all think women work for pin money or something? It is precisely my contacts through a previous job abroad that has got my DH an interview!

She also thinks he works for a "firm" and that no individual can have a pretty good guess that a company might go under if its unprofitable and relies on investment when a fiscal and economic regime changes!

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 16:59

Not another indythread, I can't keep up!

The only response to that is

WildThong · 16/09/2014 17:04

chelsey did you ahem, correct that premise?

grandtheft some may think so, I couldn't possibly comment Grin

Fontella · 16/09/2014 17:08

Ed Miliband was forced to abandon a walk-about in Edinburgh after he became caught in a crush of media and pro-independence protesters, who drowned out his interviews with shouts of “fucking liar” “serial murder” "Bow down to Miliband, your imperial master! Yes, yes, yes."

Shock

The Labour leader became the latest pro-politician to be abused and harangued as news of his unannounced visit to meet shop workers and voters at the St James Centre in central Edinburgh leaked in advance.

A small group of yes activists ran after reporters and TV crews who had gathered outside the centre as they were ushered inside the shopping centre to watch Miliband’s walkabout, leading to chaotic scenes in the mall.

The activists began shouting loudly, drowning him out, adding to the crush of photographers, reporters and Labour activists who had gathered around the Labour leader, the Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont and Margaret Curran, Labour’s shadow Scottish secretary.

I'm fuming!

tbh the Scottish Government should be begging people like me, with actual EU institutional experience, to stay. God knows there are few enough of us in Scotland. But I wouldn't work for them. Although it sounds like I wouldn't get the chance, as my husband obviously dictates where I live!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/09/2014 17:10

Our neighbour has just returned from a holiday to Scotland, where someone daubed his English registered car with "f**k off" in blue spray paint. He didn't see much point in going to the local police station since they were long gone, but had no choice as his insurers wanted a crime report in order to pay out. Unfortunately he was met with sneers, an obvious reluctance to help and the comment that "feelings are high, you know - it wasn't a good time to come"

Obviously nobody blames the entire police force for these remarks - but it does make me wonder just how impartial / effective they'll be, if there's trouble over the result

WildThong · 16/09/2014 17:11

fontella I saw that on Sky news and posted about it upthread. I was immediately told that apparently he was jostled by press and No campaigners!

Lies and smear are going into overdrive.

Abra1d · 16/09/2014 17:16

he was met with sneers, an obvious reluctance to help and the comment that "feelings are high, you know - it wasn't a good time to come"

That's terrible.

flippinada · 16/09/2014 17:18

Fontella I was very close by and heard it.

I didn't realise what it was until I came out and read the news.

The atmosphere was very unpleasant.

That's putting it mildly.

Alex Neal (sp) when asked about the leaked document,

"These are not cuts, they are efficiency savings". (Sturgeon called it a discussion document btw, they can't get their stories straight)
Then
"Tory cuts"
"Westminster overlords"
"Westminster parliament"
"House of Lords"
Repeat ad infinitum

Change the bloody record! So fed up with the scorn and negativity poured on every single thing they are challenged on. Why can they not answer a straight question without sneering and bobbing their heads at us.

TheBogQueen · 16/09/2014 17:24

Lies and smear are going into overdrive.

Not just on this thread then.

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 17:25

Any bright ideas about getting rid of that abstention misconception? I have tweeted it and put on fb. Who should I contact?

OneNight · 16/09/2014 17:25

They're starting to forget their 'positivity training' WildThong. I'll grant you they're all tired of course.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 17:26

Show us the lies and smears then bog

Or don't make snidey comments without backing them up.

TheBogQueen · 16/09/2014 17:30

Christ that's a bit rich from you!

OneNight · 16/09/2014 17:32

Time to walk away from the keyboard ladies?

ChelsyHandy · 16/09/2014 17:32

Its turned into cult behaviour based on groupthink and social facilitation - google them if you're interested and you will see what I mean.

There is no reasoning with such people - they will either lose interest on their own or increasingly move the boundaries of their acceptable behaviour ever outwards to achieve what they see as the righteous goal. It almost becomes part of their own psyche, which is why its so hard to reason with them.

I'd welcome an actual psychologist's opinion on this, but I do think the Yes camp increasingly has much in common with a cult.

The conspiracy theories about "mass media sources" all apparently being against them - it started with the Daily Mail, and now theres barely a newspaper or tv channel you can watch without it all being part of some big conspiracy. The demonising of perfectly good politicians and the sanctifying of useless ones, such as that sacked ex ambassador that's doing the rounds, Murray.

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 17:32

cedric tweet the main journalists from print and tv to make sure they're onto that story. The Yes campaign surely wouldn't fool people who are registered to vote into believing that abstention means no and voting means yes! I would tweet it myself but my twitter is linked to work.

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 17:33

So I was thinking Faisal Islam. Who else?

Fontella · 16/09/2014 17:35

I'd tweet it but I've got about 2 followers!

I'm assuming if you tweet summat - only your followers get to read it?

I'm not all that hot on all this twitter and facebook malarky.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 17:35

bog if you are going to accuse me of something just do it.

Honestly, I can't be bothered with all the personal abuse.

OneNight · 16/09/2014 17:36

Whoever you can reach cedric. Neither party would wish that view to take hold because it would tarnish any result.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 16/09/2014 17:36

cedric you could tweet David Aaronovitch of the Times. Also Hugo Rifkind. And Stephen K Bush of the Telegraph, he writes their morning briefing email.
