Hope everyone doesn't mind, I'm to keep the discussion going. As you were folks :)

Am I being attacked for posting a sad truth. If we run a business, renting out a cottage, and no one books it, then there is no cleaning to do. This is a one woman business (that I have posted about before and that was re posted at the top of thread 11). She has done a great deal to pull her and her child up by setting up a tiny business. But, we can't use her if the tourists stay away and we certainly can't afford to pay her to clean our own house which I still share with DH (.and is done badly, particularly at the moment)

Spiritedwolf · 16/09/2014 16:21

Hmm... one does wonder what the Yes supporters think they are achieving by following round committed no politicians... I don't think they'll have much luck converting them by shoving 'Yes' posters in their faces or trying to shout them down. If the undecided voters are anything like me then it is such an off putting thing to see one side try to force their views on others in such an intimidating fashion.

Most no campaigners are door knocking or attending official no stands or events... we're not following SNP politicians or Yes campaigners around and trying to shout them down. I don't think it would be very effective at all.

I can't imagine having hundreds or thousands of 'volunteers' who insisted on doing something counter productive rather than useful. I'd be pretty annoyed if I was an organiser for 'Yes'.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 16/09/2014 16:24

Spirited I don't suppose there's much the Yes organisers can do to control that sort - otherwise I'm sure they would.

Here is a graph tracking the poll's findings v the bookies predictions. I'm no betting expert but think it's interesting all the same.

Rose,
My GF informed me yesterday that we won't be visiting her family in Scotland over Christmas this year (we live in England). Not sure if that's because she's worried for me (I sound very English) or whether she can't be arsed having to put up with some of the more obnoxious Yessers in her extended family. But I suspect that the lack of business that you're seeing might be down to a lot of similar small decisions being made right now. It's all quite sad.

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 16:30

Can you copy the link squoosh?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/09/2014 16:31

I believe you are being accused of scaremongering, Rose.

I've followed a lot of these threads with great interest. DH is Scottish by birth but has no vote, as is his sister's husband, because they are resident in England. Both would be really sad to see Scotland vote 'Yes' on Thursday.

DH though is somewhat alarmed at Salmond's assertion that those born in Scotland will be considered Scottish citizens even if they have moved out, and is considering renouncing his nationality so that he is only considered British like me and our children. Happy enough to claim ownership but not to let them have a vote...

Squoosh - I can't make head nor tail of that graph. it's the colours I think. The four lines going across the graph - the top one, is that 'yes probably' or 'no probably'?

Roseformeplease · 16/09/2014 16:37

Am I? Oh, dear. If only it were scaremongering. But, it isn't. It is real people in real jobs that will coat individuals real money.

I would hate to be the person who means that she can't have a good Christmas or she has to work outside school hours when there is no childcare provision where we are, at all. (Actually, odd that. My children are too old to need childcare but, if you have under 3s round here there is nothing and even for the 3/4 year olds there is only the 3 hours of nursery provision.

Another way in which the SNP could have helped, and haven't.

squoosh · 16/09/2014 16:38

Top line - Bookies No (78% chance)

Second line - Poll No (48%)

Third Line - Poll Yes (42%)

Fourth line - Bookies Yes (22% chance)

I've nabbed it off twitter, will see if I can find source.

Fontella · 16/09/2014 16:38

Alibabaandthe40nappies

On another thread somewhere - maybe here I don't know someone wrote

if I had a pound for every time I heard the word 'scaremongering' I'd be able to start my own bloody currency

That's one thing I do love about us Brits - all of us - the sense of humour. I've lived in France, spent a lot of time in the USA - and there is just nothing like Brit humour anywhere.

Is Daughterdilemma Weatherall?

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 16:42

I have our hairdresser here now. She thought if she didn't vote it counted as a no Confused. She says lots of her friends believe that.

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 16:42

Thanks squoosh.

Abra1d · 16/09/2014 16:42

somewhere along the line one of my Celtic ancestors had a roll in the hay with a Nordic invader.

Fontella :)

AnnieHoo · 16/09/2014 16:44

cedric that is frightening . I can well believe that. Shock

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 16:44

I know that has been doing the round cedricsneer. It's really worrying.

!!

dementedma · 16/09/2014 16:46

genuinely worried about the atmosphere on Friday.
if NO wins, cue lots of furious yessers blaming the NOS and the English.
If YES wins, cue lots of celebrating yessers taunting the English.

not a good time to be English in Scotland. I haven't felt the level of unpleasantness since I arrive here back in the seventies.

OneNight · 16/09/2014 16:48

I hope that someone alerts the campaigns' headquarters to that cedric perhaps via a quick email. Something coming out on television or radio would be appropriate to the interests of both parties I would have thought.

cedricsneer · 16/09/2014 16:51

Hmm.. Who would I contact? Happy to do that.

I have, however, convinced her to vote no Smile.

Fontella · 16/09/2014 16:51

cedric blimey - I'm sure you put her straight on that one. How many more like that?!?

dementedma - apparently it's not like that at all. You are imagining it. There's no anti-English sentiment.

flippinada · 16/09/2014 16:52

Think I was close by the event in St James Centre, although I didn't see it. It was very loud and aggressive.

SandyMumsnet · 16/09/2014 16:52

Hi all and AnnieHoo,

We're afraid??? there's not enough time to run another survey before Thursday - we restricted the last one to Scottish users and got it up to a statistically significant number of responses (1000+) and it took us a few days to get to that point so not enough time really to do another one, sorry about that.
Thanks

Fontella · 16/09/2014 16:53

Re what Cedric has said about the hairdressser - someone needs to get in touch with the 'No' people and get them to address that - get it out somehow, on the streets at grass roots level, any telly or radio they do between now and then, print media - you have to vote. Abstention doesn't mean 'No'.
