Good luck on the campaign trail everyone.

TheBogQueen · 16/09/2014 15:55

You realise when you are talking about Salmond and his camp, Nuremberg, latent nazism, stupidity, ignorance, firing the cleaning lady, intimidation and violence- you are talking about your friends and neighbours.

I know advocates, social workers, poverty campaigners etc voting Yes.

They are not how you describe and I don't see any of them speaking about people who vote No as a group in that perjorative way.

OneNight · 16/09/2014 15:55

living

I think I mentioned a bit back seeing this on reading some of the Wings Over Scotland threads at the weekend. The posters displayed massive concentration on and fervour for getting 'there' but I don't recall seeing a single substantive comment on what they planned to do afterwards. I suspect many Yes activists haven't even thought about it.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 16/09/2014 15:57

Fontella you must do it! I've not been, but all the Western Isles are magical and virtually empty. White beaches, turquoise water - altho freezing a wee bit fresh.

In fact, I wonder whether anyone who doesn't vote or spoils their ballot should be shipped off to St Kilda ... (wanders off, muttering)

WildThong · 16/09/2014 15:59

bogqueen you are correct, anyone can be stupid regardless of their profession, education etc. But if you can't see the behaviour that is going on by Yes campaigners then you must live a very sheltered life.

livingzuid Spooky... I've just watched Finding Nemo with wolfcub this afternoon!

The frustrating thing is that as soon as anyone says anything controversial (e.g. historical nationalism... or feeling intimidated ) Yes supporters naturally pop up to refute. But last night and this morning we've had a lot of important things to say about the economy, the EU, or about the SNP's record on the things it claims to want for Scotland, etc and nobody addresses any of that.

It's this vague "fairer Scotland" that everyone wants to have, but everyone's personal vision of that fairer Scotland is different... so when question the specifics people melt away.

The economic case looks very very shakey. And without the economy - whatever you want - more generous benefits, lower taxes, better health service etc, it can't really happen.

trixymalixy · 16/09/2014 16:01

Really bog queen ? I've seen people calling no voters traitors, scum, selfish ignorant etc. far far more than I've seen no voters called ignorant etc.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 16/09/2014 16:01

TheBogQueen I thought we'd covered this, but no one's comparing Yes voters to Nazis.

What is clear to me is that at this stage it's very very difficult for me to understand a Yes voter - and believe me, I've talked to many. Either they don't have answers or just start with abuse.

OneNight · 16/09/2014 16:02

TheBogQueen

I think we all respect that but I have to tell you that I would like that list a lot better if you would assure me that the 'etc' contained a few top-flight economists.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2014 16:02

TheBogQueen there have been plenty of people talking about no voters in an equally pejorative way I can assure you.

The cleaning lady is being laid off because of the lack of bookings due to uncertainty it seems, nothing to do with her voting intentions.

combust22 · 16/09/2014 16:03

I had a no campaigner this weekend tell me that the Scots couldn't organise a piss up in a distillery.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 16:03

Ed Milliband being jostled and intimidated in an Edinburgh shopping centre now.

You can see his shock at the behaviour on his face.

When is the last time that AS and NS were treated like that on the campaign trail?

CoreyTrevorLahey · 16/09/2014 16:03

*You realise when you are talking about Salmond and his camp, Nuremberg, latent nazism, stupidity, ignorance, firing the cleaning lady, intimidation and violence- you are talking about your friends and neighbours.

I agree, Bog. I'm a No, after loads and loads and loads much consideration. But, as others have said in other conversations, we all have to live with each other afterwards. I'm surrounded by Yessers and they don't fit the profile that's discussed on here.

Intolerance breeds conflict. We need to try and accept each other if we have any hope of working together, whether that's an an independent Scotland or part of the UK.

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 16:05

Ed Miliband being jostled by mainly no voters and press.

TheBogQueen · 16/09/2014 16:06

And this is not ethnic nationalism.

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 16:06

bog this thread has taken a decidedly dubious turn today. I guess that's why most yes people are off doing more useful stuff.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 16:07

TS, he is trying to walk through the shopping centre, the people walking closet to him are obviously No-ers and press. They are being forced in on him by the rabble on the outside trying to kettle them.

I take it you are there Hmm

Repeat, when was it that happened to AS or NS?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 16/09/2014 16:08

I don't think it has TS, no more than it has over the 12 threads. I think you'd like others to think it might have though.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 16:09

Ah, the 'dubious turn' slur

Always easy to insult when you nothing of any worth to say.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 16:10

offer

OneNight · 16/09/2014 16:10

I guess that's why most yes people are off doing more useful stuff.

I'm sorry TS - you don't consider that talking about Scotland's future is useful? That's dreadfully negative of you.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 16/09/2014 16:10

Bog you can say that all you like, but I have been called English scum, and told to go home, and so have many others. The Yes campaign may not have meant it to be anti-English, but guess what, it's out there and it's become one of the defining parts of your campaign.

WildThong · 16/09/2014 16:12

I guess that's why most yes people are off doing more useful

Aye, organised jostling of any opposition!

Fontella · 16/09/2014 16:12

oh edam and Abra don't get me started - just like you, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, French and Spanish all rolled into a classic British/European mix and very proud of each and every part, however illogical being proud of an accident of birth might be

I like to pride myself on being as Welsh as Bara Brith - and I look it - I could probably even narrow it down to the tribe - Silures with a splash of Demetau Grin - but how is it that my kids are tall blonde Adonises that look like they have come straight off a Viking Longship? As is my sis - tall, blonde - all she needs is the horned helmet.

So somewhere along the line one of my Celtic ancestors had a roll in the hay with a Nordic invader.

I think all of us on these islands are a hybrid mix of allsorts which is what makes all of this such a crying shame really.

edamsavestheday · 16/09/2014 16:13

Jostling and intimidation are just horrible to see. This is supposed to be a civilised democracy, ffs. And it's not the first from Salmond and his mob either.

Good luck living under that lot if you vote 'Yes' Scotland...
