Friends are trying to think of a word to teach their 2yo girl for the private parts. AIBU to think there's no female equivalent to willy for a boy? Anybody got an idea what word to use?

My daughter came home from school a few weeks ago and proudly told me she knows what a girls front bottom is called.

"Ooo, what's it called?"
"A fudgegina."
"A what?"
"A fudgegina."
"A what?"
"A fudgegina."
"What does it begin with?"
"F."

I did put her right. Smile

MrsMook · 13/09/2014 21:35

I think mine was a front bottom. This issue is definitely an advantage of having sons!

BikeRunSki · 13/09/2014 21:35

We use Wilma too. Seems logical really.

NoTedInTheBed · 13/09/2014 21:36

Always been a cookie to me yes even now, twee, and is for DD too.

BikeRunSki · 13/09/2014 21:38

Although there have been a few sniggers since ds started school and we discovered there's a character called Wilma in the Oxford Reading Tree books.

PatSharpesfabulousmullet · 13/09/2014 21:38

We say crotch day to day, as in don't forget to wipe your crotch. I use anatomically correct terms for more detailed descriptions though, as in what is this part called?

flatbellyfella · 13/09/2014 21:39

Vulva is a nice easy word and not rude or vulgar.

TortillasAndChocolate · 13/09/2014 21:40

It's a mini here! Although the northern part of the family call it a fairy - I just think that ruins fairies a bit though. The tooth fairy becomes a flying biting vagina...

I'm amazed at how many of my friends call their son's willies something different though - I thought willy was pretty universal but apparently not!

tinfoilhat · 13/09/2014 21:41

Noonies in this house too.

My Mum used to use the horrendous 'your unmentionables' which is just asking for all sorts of hang-ups...

But I agree that there's no truly comfortable name for it and like others, I'm not sure I want my 3 yr old using the correct names yet.
I may introduce 'privates' though as was suggested here - good to teach that 'privates are private' from early on.

Must say though - fairy?!?!?!!!!! Surely there must be confusion with stories and talk of the 'tooth fairy' or 'flower fairies' or any other fairy for that matter!!!!!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 13/09/2014 21:42

My mum always called it a rudie, I suppose.from the word 'rude' but my brain didn't make that connection as a child and I just thought that that was what it was called, and spelled roody ! Now I use it on my dd as it has always been he 'right' sounding word to use, because I learnt it so young! Silly really.

thegreylady · 13/09/2014 21:44

I am from County Durham and never really had a word. It was referred to as 'yourself' as in, "Make sure you wash yourself" or "Don't touch yourself" or, on one memorable occcasion from my dad when I was 6ish,"Go and tell your mam to stop you touching yourself!" It's a wonder I'm not traumatised :)

Imafixerupper · 13/09/2014 21:45

Only on Mumsnet have i ever heard an adult referring to those bits as 'vulva', let alone a child!

We plumped for 'nooni' in this house.

My friend used to call it a 'nilly' which i also quite like!

squoosh · 13/09/2014 21:45

Fanny is the best word, it's a shame some people find it so shockingly rude.

Foof would be runner up.

SquinkiesRule · 13/09/2014 21:48

We say Girly parts or fanjo or Yoni.

Zippidydoodah · 13/09/2014 21:53

littlepea'smummy Grin @ "it was harder to name than her"!

Pipbin · 13/09/2014 21:53

I think there should be a public vote.
I teach nursery I've had a child hurt themselves before and its taken me about 10 minutes to work out that they are talking about their privates.

I'm trying to think what my mother called it, but I don't think she ever referred to it.

Zippidydoodah · 13/09/2014 21:54

Maybe fairy is a northern thing, then. I am northern and mine was a fairy... And then a hairy fairy! Grin

MerryInthechelseahotel · 13/09/2014 21:54

Why the hell would you refer to little girls bits as fairy, tuppence or Mary? Why is fanny rude?

What is the difference? Fanny and Mary are both girls names!

UpUpAndAway123 · 13/09/2014 21:55

Cunt!! Grin

Joking......we have a front bum, bum bum or vagina (dd is 4)

DamnBamboo · 13/09/2014 21:56

I didn't say that I though Fanny was ok either. I just don't get why Fanny is rude and Mary is not. And why any any of them would be used in these circumstances.

RufusTheReindeer · 13/09/2014 21:57

It's a woo here

Or woo woo

Woo, woo, woo would be wrong though

insanityscratching · 13/09/2014 21:58

Dd1 caller hers a pippa and dd2 called hers a pipsy because of the noise it made when she had a wee Hmm I called them bits. Dm called ours a tuppy I think from tuppence.

notadoctor · 13/09/2014 21:58

We say girlie bits in our house. We say boy bits as well as willy too.

OwlinaTree · 13/09/2014 22:00

Think they are leaning towards girl bits. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Front bot, back bot.

I never thought of "front bottom" being unpleasant because of pooey connotations as a PP said. I think it just nicely encompasses the genital areas fore and aft.

I think we should start using vulva though, since oldest DD is old enough to start understanding the different anatomical bits.

I find foof, fairy, twinkle and all those words a bit cringe. One mother once said she was going to use foof "because that's what French people call it". I would love it if a MNetter could verify this for me, but blimey, seemed like an odd reason. She was a bit odd.
