The only poll that matters is the one next Thursday.

The Yes movement does seem more prominent, though. The No people don't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops as the Yessers do, I suppose.

Cambiodenombre · 13/09/2014 15:26

There is a huge element of truth in that Team Scotland. Most people I know are no but there is no out wards evidence of that. In fact having seen what happens to any No Thanks signs round here I think most people would shy away from advertising it.

Roonerspism · 13/09/2014 15:29

It is in today's Times, that figure.

livingzuid · 13/09/2014 15:30

No voters round here get their property vandalised and kids threatened. Quite brave to hear of a BT campaigner out on his own.

The Yes campaign has shades of Kinnock. We don't like that in our four nationed country. Gloating is in bad taste at the best of times but particularly before a win when only one poll has put you in front, and a spurious result at that.

A 50/50 win is no result for either side.

IrnBruTheNoo · 13/09/2014 15:31

Absolutely fantastic sight in Buchanan Street just now!

IrnBruTheNoo · 13/09/2014 15:34

Not sure what you're getting at there OldLady?

IrnBruTheNoo · 13/09/2014 15:35

I hope you're not implying that the result will be fixed.

That wasn't what I was hinting at, but I do also think there could be corruption at the polls as well...I wouldn't put it past DC to make sure the polls were rigged.

EarthWindFire · 13/09/2014 15:36

Conspiracy theories ahoy

livingzuid · 13/09/2014 15:36

Damn this thread moves too fast :) yes the polls are crazy. There's no precedent for it which is why. Even for regular elections I have never understood them as how can they encompass a whole demographic when just making them online renders some of them inaccessible to a good proportion of the voting public?

Still stand by the gloating thing though. The sight of Salmond and Sturgeon with their victory walk the other day was nauseating. They have done so much damage.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 13/09/2014 15:38

IrnBru I don't thinkDC is like you make out . The poll will be conducted by Scottish local authorities. The woman in charge overall is Head of Falkirk Council.

grandtheftmanual · 13/09/2014 15:38

DH and I sat and had coffee on our high street today, quite near a Yes stand. There were a few people standing around chatting, but an awful lot of people walking quickly past, heads down, or even crossing the road to avoid.

We're visiting my M&D this afternoon who live about 70 miles away. there are a lot of No Thanks posters and signs around, and pleasingly, most appear tp be intact. Which makes a nice change from round our way!

BardarbungaBardarbing · 13/09/2014 15:38

I mean the referendum poll on the 18th of course!

cricketpitch · 13/09/2014 15:40

I wouldn't put it past DC to make sure the polls were rigged.

Really?????????? Really????

grandtheftmanual · 13/09/2014 15:40

Irnbru the poll is being conducted by Scottish Local authorities. there will be plenty of observers on both sides. Unless you are implying that us Scots are susceptible to bribery...........

livingzuid · 13/09/2014 15:41

Rigging? For real? Scotland isn't a banana Republic despite the SNP's best efforts Confused

EarthWindFire · 13/09/2014 15:41

Which makes a nice change from round our way!

It would make a nice change from my experience too.

My friend who's DC were yelled out are seriously thinking of moving to England whatever the outcome, despite all family etc being in Scotland. It makes me Angry and Sad

BardarbungaBardarbing · 13/09/2014 15:42

I really do trust the polling here and I'm an old cynic.

Now Postal voting in some areas of England has had problems.

The worst problem here with postal votes seems to be folk changing their mind!

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 13/09/2014 15:48

IrnBru, EarthWindFire said "IMO it us because people will you actually what they will do in a poll as it us anonymous, rather than on a stand, in the street which isn't", which I took to mean (I may be wrong) that people will tell the truth when it's anonymous. I agree. But I don't think polls are anonymous; someone has phoned you or is standing on your doorstep, so they know who you are and where you live. Talking to a total stranger in the street is far more anonymous; so surely people are more inclined to tell the truth at street stalls etc? EWF seems to imply the opposite. Which confuses me.

grandtheftmanual · 13/09/2014 15:56

OldLady - but because the Yes campaign have everyone thinking it's unscottish to vote No, and intolerant, and less kind and less fair etc, surely people are not going to admit to being a No voter to a Yes campaigner at a street stand. I don't know what this makes of more official polls - did you hear More or Less on R4 yesterday? Some quite good insights into how the polling companies get their info, and why it sometimes is inaccurate, how they go about weighting information etc.

prettybird · 13/09/2014 15:56

Just been canvassing in the New Gorbals. All incredibly positive and a great atmosphere. Masses of people coming to volunteer to help Smile

This is the first time I've ever gone canvassing - the most political thing I've done before this is go on the Anti-War march back in 2003.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 13/09/2014 16:04

Why would a No voter even get into chatty conversation with someone at a Yes stall? [confused} again. Surely you'd just, well, not engage? Or are No voters really so fearful of personal assault in the street by rabid Yessers that they smile, and lie about their deeply-held political views?

grandtheftmanual · 13/09/2014 16:05

to be honest I think it's got so bad that this is what is happening.

I had a friend yesterday asking if I had made my decision yet.

I said I had and he replied "don't tell me, I don't want to fall out with you, lets keep it to ourselves"

It made me feel :(

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 13/09/2014 16:09

Then Project Fear really has done a number on No voters. Imagine living your life like that. :(
