This is a nice article in the Scotsman. I think it lays out the reasons for a no vote really well. Just out in the last hour on their website.

lovely Gosh. What a nasty bastard Galloway is.

Massively misjudged if you think anyone on here is going to stick up for him.

He is a strange and uncomfortable bedfellow, Sillars is part of the separatist establishment, do you see the difference?

OP posts:
livingzuid · 14/09/2014 00:01

Yes George Galloway is a nasty bastard too. Something everyone has known for many years. What's your point?

ChelsyHandy · 14/09/2014 00:01

Brimming with talent. Not.

How could any of this lot sit round an international negotiating table and achieve anything?

squoosh · 14/09/2014 00:01

Is there a rule I haven't heard of that you need to stick up for everyone on your 'side'? I'm happy to say that both Sillars and Galloway are cocks.

Spiritedwolf · 14/09/2014 00:02

Catching up... evening ladies, hope you enjoyed the proms.

So you don't like the current Westminster gov or the Scottish gov, and you don't think Labour (either at a UK or Scottish level) are going to save the day.

We already have PR in Scotland, so I don't think its reasonable to expect an iScotland government in future to be a lot different.

I'm trying to work out where your society that protects the vulnerable is going to come from.

I'm not trying to be horrible. I agree with your ambition to end the need for food banks and to protect the vulnerable, but I can't see how you expect to achieve it whilst your cynicism for politicians of every stripe is so strong.

My answer to this problem is Labour in government in both Holyrood and Westminster. They aren't perfect, but they are a heck of a lot better than both current administrations. That's where my hopes lie. I can understand why you don't trust Labour, but I can't see how you will achieve what you want without them. The Greens and Socialists, even if their profile is raised by their activities during this referendum campaign are unlikely to get more than a few MSPs each in the next parliament. And with all the anti-Labour stuff coming out of both the Radical and mainstream Yes campaigns... I struggle to see where your centre left government is going to come from.

The SNP may have some left wingers, but they also have some on the ultra right, and a good deal more inhabiting the same centre ground that people are so scathing of the parties fighting over at Westminster.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 00:02

My bad. I thought we were playing let's randomly call someone a bastard with no explanation.

WildThong · 14/09/2014 00:03

We don't suffer from blind faith squoosh

OP posts:
livingzuid · 14/09/2014 00:03

And my reference to Sillars was to his earlier diatribe. Shows the real face of the SNP. Anyone with half a brain could see why companies would need to move south of the border if currency is so up in the air along with everything else. It seems like a bit of an own goal to be attacking companies that want to stay in Scotland should independence prevail.

ChelsyHandy · 14/09/2014 00:04

SpiritedWolf you need political opposition and a healthy political spectrum, surely?

squoosh · 14/09/2014 00:04

Can I call Mike Russell a cock too?

Mike Russell is the most self important cock I've had the misfortune to meet. And he was dressed in some Basil Brush tweedy number.

WildThong · 14/09/2014 00:05

Hi spirited yes I did, thanks.

Sad news breaking about the Scot beheaded, with that enough for now.

Goodnight all.

OP posts:
LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 00:06

I took a group of parents I was working with on a return to higher education to parliament. Met Russell and he didn't even know what an HNC was.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/09/2014 00:07

What do you mean I thought we believed everything we're told WildThong? Grin

OneNight · 14/09/2014 00:08

No Rita I should imagine that you're not an elected politician.

You have however come on to a thread where in common with previous threads many of the posters have clearly thought about and are concerned for the future of this nation in the event of a close poll. Having just read some of the thread on Wings Over Scotland where not one poster that I could see expressed an iota of interest in anyone but their own campaign participants I guess I was rather hoping for some positivity from you.

Do those campaigning for a seceded Scotland actually care about those who may not be voting for it?

WildThong · 14/09/2014 00:08

Night night

livingzuid · 14/09/2014 00:09

goodnight everyone thank you for the discussion.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 00:11

You didn't ask me a question? Ask away, I looked back a few pages and couldn't see one and I'm not going to guess at what you're asking.

ChelsyHandy · 14/09/2014 00:13

Goodnight, and thank you.

OneNight · 14/09/2014 00:13

How about you go with the one I just posted then?

Do those campaigning for a seceded Scotland actually care about those who may not be voting for it?

AnnieHoo · 14/09/2014 00:17

lovely we have an NHS funded "young mums" group here too. They teach food and nutrition and it does have positive outcomes not just learning to cook to meet the HEAT targets. It does break the cycle of poor nutrition but on a very small scale (8 people a year?).

You'll think I'm cynical but I've seen the SG throw money at "band aid" projects and programmes over the last 4 years. Some have made a difference but most are just hot air and a chance for SG to hold massive conferences at SECC with experts flown in from Boston and blow hot air about how wonderful the NHS in Scotland.

I know I sound cynical but I've been working in it for years and seen it all.

I'm off to bed.

OneNight · 14/09/2014 00:21

Sleep well. I'm off also.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 00:22

Do you want me to speak for every yes voter or just myself and would you please answer the same question?

People vote against each other all the time and get on. I've not fallen out with anyone and I don't intend to.
Whatever way this goes half of us aren't going to get what we want. I'm sure we're all mature enough to realise and accept that

I don't not care. I resent that implication actually however I won't not do what i think is right democratically because someone disagrees.

As a no voter do you not care about those who don't want it?

(Not a question I would actually ask but only fair to throw it back)

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 00:24

I've seen a huge amount of positive results with the work I'm involved in. Baby steps to look at as I said but monumental for those taking them.

Ans so they should be celebrated!

AnnieHoo · 14/09/2014 00:31

Yes! I agree with you. Incremental changes is what works. My friend teaches the cooking. She was funded by NHS but the funding ran out or they couldn't agree to fund it or something so she does it voluntarily now. She loves it, the ladies thrive and she is a great role model.

Our devolved NHS has made progress!

I don't believe there will be the funding in an independent Scotland to sustain the NHS model that we have currently for many reasons mostly the economy. And I love the NHS.

Night night Smile
