Stop being such a bitch, deee.

I thought it was funny. I love those surveys. This one's a gem, look:

Women surveyed by extra-martial dating site AshleyMadison.com also praised how long Scotsmen last in bed as well as their level of expertise - leaving their southern counterparts - who scored only six out of ten in both categories - in the dust.

I mean- wtaf? Grin

Roonerspism · 11/09/2014 22:41

A lot of the FS companies have said much as they can. If they are more dire in their predictions they risk a run.

Without a currency union, it is hard to see how it can be beneficial for th to stay. Without a currency union, there will be too much uncertainty for business and fears of a lack of fiscal control in an iScotland.

Either way, it may not happen overnight, but they will be off.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 22:42

I have lost count of the number of times I've said "I think" or "in my opinion" or "i believe" with regards to financial services/job losses.

Agreed, bakerstreet. I feel very, very angry. This has been done stupendously badly. The timing was wrong too - someone posted upthread about countries which have become independent previously and they had a massive number of people in favour. Getting to the stage of agreeing a referendum when the polls at that point showed about 30-odd% approval was a foolish thing to do as it has made this so incredibly divisive. They should have done just for a devo-max referendum first IME. This would have been far more likely to work if it had been done gradually.

SantanaLopez · 11/09/2014 22:42

I would expect Lothian Rd to be under quite a tight watch and the staff to have been made (extra) aware of their social media accounts and habits.

scaevola · 11/09/2014 22:43

"... praised how long Scotsmen last in bed ..."

It's the desensitising effect of chafe from wearing a rough tweedy kilt and no undercrackers.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 11/09/2014 22:45

I'm another who previously worked in FS who was told "we have no intention of there being any job losses" and then 25% redundancies were announced 6 months later.

I work in a different sector now, my job won't move immediately, but will move in the medium term.

Deeedeee, why the need to be so horrid with all your posts?

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 22:46

Actually, the currency issue might have an impact on the staffing too Roonerspism. I.e. if Scotland is in a different currency which isn't very stable it would possibly be risk to have the majority of your staff paid in a currency which is subject to different inflationary pressures to the majority of your income? Obviously that can be offset with derivatives etc but that's not bullet proof. Just musing, not something I've given massive thought to but...part of the reason Ireland worked as a base for other EU companies was the shared currency. Ditto Panama actually re US.

Luckytwo · 11/09/2014 22:46

So this business of no asset ie sterling, means no liability ie no debt. That's all good and well, but how can any lending institution ever consider Scotland as a viable option when it walked away from its responsibilty ? I think this is a red herring. To be able to continue independently, an independent Scotland would have to be seen as a responsible , credit worthy nation, as opposed to one which defaulted at the first opportunity.

ffallada · 11/09/2014 22:46

RBS have emailed staff to state they are only moving the brass plaque. Santander have also said they have no intention of changing.

Lloyds' "HQ" in Scotland is no more than a brass plate. Actual HQ is 25 Gresham St. Few if any jobs would move.

Standard Life buildings:
Tanfield SOLD
Baileyfield UP FOR SALE
Annadale Street SOLD
Lothian Road South RENTED OUT
Peebles SOLD

Still in use:
Lothian Road North
Canonmills

I'm not sure of the state of Standard Life Investments on St Andrew Sq/George St but Banking and Healthcare were sold off ages ago.

Their staff numbers are decimated over the past five years

So behind the headlines the substance is where?

Roseformeplease · 11/09/2014 22:47

Is anyone on here also really sad that wanksock was not on the web chat yesterday with Salmond and Darling? I would have absolutely loved to see any politician starting their answer with "Hello, wanksock." As it was, I thought SquidgyMummy got top giggles when they had to type that.

AnnieHoo · 11/09/2014 22:47

Right I get the security thing now means information security. Smile

OneNight · 11/09/2014 22:50

Out of interest as someone mentioned social media above does anyone know whether Mumsnet is prohibited or voluntarily restricts itself from hosting referendum debate on the actual day of the poll? (As news media are.) It would be useful to have some warning.

Roonerspism · 11/09/2014 22:53

ffalada they have said they won't move immediately.

That is all.

They just don't know.

statistically it's so complex and dependent on so many factors, they don't know the full extent themselves. If I was a betting person, I think if there was a currency union, the move would be more gradual. Without it, they would have to move faster to protect themselves.

SantanaLopez · 11/09/2014 22:54

Oooooohhhhh I'm on page 6 of The Times! Ridiculously chuffed Grin

AnnieHoo · 11/09/2014 22:55

I don't get this focus on semantics about statements from companies.

Look at the big picture. Businesses will look after their own interests. They'll go to where the largest share of the market is.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 22:55

Oh definitely rooner, I suspect their contingency plan is long with lots of scenarios and process maps and flow charts!

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/09/2014 22:56

I hate this, I just want it all to be over. I feel angry most of the time at the moment. Scotland will never recover from this, well, not this generation anyway. It's just awful.

That sums my thoughts up exactly.

AnnieHoo · 11/09/2014 22:57

Have you got a photo of the newspaper clipping Santana?? I'm on my phone what's the quote? Fame at last!! Grin

Roonerspism · 11/09/2014 22:57

I am wondering if I work near you :)

I am always amused at the 18 month timetable promised by the nats.

I mean, a change in current financial regulation can take 5 years to become law and implement.

And the nats say we could do the whole thing in 18 months?!

SantanaLopez · 11/09/2014 23:01

I hope this works!

Indyref 9
SantanaLopez · 11/09/2014 23:03

18 months seems fanciful, unless one side totally gives in. Is it still possible to delay it? Or is it in the Edinburgh Agreement.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 23:04

Well given that we've now ruled out one possible area you may well!

Yup, 18 months sounds 50 shades of loony to me. We don't just need some new regs, we need a new PRA/FCA!

cunexttuesonline · 11/09/2014 23:07

I was there roseformeplease, but they didn't answer my question :(

I asked what I did above, about tax raising powers and a cut scottish govt.

cunexttuesonline · 11/09/2014 23:07

Woops budget, not govt!!! I'm very tired.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/09/2014 23:09

I can very much see your point WankSock. My only hope is that if it's a No, the govt do actually implement the extra powers and it is enough to help calm things down. There are a fair number of Yes voters who have said they would have voted for devo max so it might help with making us feel a bit less divided.
