To be Worried About How Bad The Atmosphere In The Uk Will Be In The Event Of A No Vote?

The tension between the yes and no parties is awful. Campaigners from both sides are behaving in a very aggressive manner and I've even heard the odd report of people getting into physical altercations If the result of the referendum is no I fear Scotland is going to descend into chaos, things aren't just going to settle back down. How can we ever come back from this? I honestly fear there is going to be violence.

Well they can move, can't they, or will cuddly old England close its borders to them and treat them as illegal immigrants?

Remember, unlike in NI where everyone knew which side you were on, nobody knows who voted what and there is genuine respect, what I have seen, for different views.

It will never be a civil war.

Ah, but the people of NI could move to England if they had wanted to, but each side wanted to live in NI under their terms which is exactly what the Yes/No campaign is doing to Scotland...

I'm whispering so I don't get shouted down!! I do have some respect for David Cameron supporting the 'no' vote, when a 'yes' vote would be so beneficial to his Party, and their chances in the next election.

Also, I get that some people don't know how much others are struggling - but the same could be said throughout the UK - do the inhabitants of South Kensington know how their fellow Londoners in less salubrious areas are living?

Will you like Scotland better when "they" leave DaughterDilemma?

grandtheftmanual · 14/09/2014 12:01

Daughter - we'd go but can't sell our house (doesn't really feel like home anymore, sadly). Hey - if you buy it now, there'll be 2 fewer No voters in the referendum. Wanna do a deal?

If there is a yes vot England and Wales will be ruled by Tories for the next couple of decades probably. There are not enough English labour supporters.

And why would that be do you think? This isn't about an independent Scotland letting the Tories stay in power - the only people doing that are the Labour party. If they can't muster a decent opposition then they are the ones allowing the Tories to stay in power. There are many poor parts of England, many parts of the country who feel as cut off from WM as Scotland claim to be but they are being let down by a Labour party who don't offer a viable alternative and don't rouse enough supporters to make people actually go and vote for them. It doesn't help that people remember all their failings from last time they were in office.

Would the 'no' campaign have a bigger margin under a Labour government? I doubt it. I don't think this is really about party politics at all - the SNP have always wanted independence haven't they, they just didn't have a majority in the Scottish parliament until their last elections and were therefore in no position to ask for it.

Frankly if we could scrap all the parties we have now and start again with parties that were actually different from one another I would be happier. I have no idea who to vote for in next year's election. They are all as bad as each other.
