weatherall Why are you trying to deny that most childcare is done by women

No one anywhere on this thread has said that, where did you see it?

The point is that the Childcare legislation applies to families, not just women.

WildThong · 09/09/2014 10:20

firstchoice sorry that is happening to your son. There is a mob mentality some people are becoming rabid.

I don't think the badges should be allowed on school uniform, or in school. Could you contact the school and complain? No racism should be tolerated.

IrnBruTheNoo · 09/09/2014 10:20

"HoL has nicer tea and smarter offices."

They also don't deserve to get a 10% pay increase either. Looking forward to scrapping HoLs. Biggest waste of money, sat yawning on BBC Parliament and getting tax payers money for it. Disgusting.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/09/2014 10:20

Thank you WildThong Flowers I was beginning to think I was going crazy there

IrnBruTheNoo · 09/09/2014 10:22

"Lets all vote no."

You're making me want to vote YES even more now. Thanks!Smile

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2014 10:25

(irony is kid moved up from bloody Cheshire 3 months ago. But he has ginger hair and is called Andrew, so I'm guessing there is Scottish blood in him somewhere)

Well, that's a nice bit of stereotyping!

I think weatherall is unwittingly helping our cause!

WildThong · 09/09/2014 10:27

itsall yes, maybe so, but that doesn't excuse racism does it?

WildThong · 09/09/2014 10:30

choco, there are posters from both sides who have given me information and made me think about things. And there are others who, as soon as I read what they write, confirm my views (I am a No) even further.

chocoluvva · 09/09/2014 10:30

the burden of childcare

Do you see looking after children as a "burden" weatherall?

I posted before that my DS was told to fuck off back to England three times in a four day visit to the Edinburgh Festival. He now doesn't like Scotland.

firstchoice · 09/09/2014 10:32

itsallgoingtobefine

No, it isn't stereotyping - his family was originally from this area but he was born in England.

I notice you complain about my 'stereotyping' yet do not see fit to comment on a 9 year old telling another 9 year old in his class to fuck off due to his heritage... Hmm

wildthong - I could, but this is a school where a dyslexic child's parents were told that he couldn't spell 'because of his English accent'... Angry

Solopower1 · 09/09/2014 10:32

The set up is overwhelmingly:

'Man works full time
Woman does most of childcare and housework regardless of employment status.

Lone parents: woman does everything.

We might not want this but that is how the vast majority of families work.'

This is true in my experience.

What I don't like is the idea that we should allow ourselves to be bribed into voting for or against independence.

Nothing is sure. An independent Scotland government might not have the money to deliver on any of its promises.

firstchoice · 09/09/2014 10:35

My son has SEN.
He considers himself Scottish so is really upset and confused to be told to Fuck Off out of the country he was born in.

grovel sorry to hear that. That is how your son, and mine, will always remember Scotland Sad

chocoluvva · 09/09/2014 10:37

Thong I started as a no voter , didn't give it much thought Blush until I heard a (young) yes voter being very positive about the idea - nothing to do with anti-English feeling and I began to question whether part of my motivation was fear of the undesirable economic consequences of independence. The more I researched the surer I have become as a no voter. Not just because I think it's right for Scotland and UK but because I think voting for independence is a backward step. With disastrous economic consequences.

WildThong · 09/09/2014 10:38

first that's awful, surely something can be done, take it further to the local authority or something? your poor wee boy must be so confused and sad.

Solopower1 · 09/09/2014 10:39

My computer is so slow! It's all the adverts that keep popping up, I think. I feel I can't join in properly as I am always a beat behind other people ...

Racism against the English. It exists, I have experienced it and so has my son, who is half English. I've posted about it before. It's nasty. There is an anti-English undercurrent that underpins the debate - although the Yes campaign are doing their best to stamp on it, at least in public.

That's how we know, those of us who live here, that a lot of people are voting on a mixture of prejudice and misinformation.

AnnieHoo · 09/09/2014 10:39

Nationalism is an infantile thing...

grovel · 09/09/2014 10:41

firstchoice, the reason I'm following this thread from SE England is that I love Scotland. My childhood memories are of holidays North of the border. I can still feel the shiver of excitement at being allowed to stay up late and go to the Tattoo aged seven.

Now some cretins have made my DS unwelcome in a country special to me.

Solopower1 · 09/09/2014 10:42

Don't get me started on bias in schools. As part of my job I observe classes. I have heard a teacher define independence as 'freedom' (he's not likely to be on mumsnet, but he knows who he is).

firstchoice · 09/09/2014 10:42

wild

Had meeting with top brass of Council (LA) at end of last term.
Senior Lead Education Officer agreed that: "
yes, an English accent can affect spelling, esp if the Support for Learning teacher has a local idiom". Hmm

They are not going to care that some 9 year old wears a badge and bullies another kid, sadly.

It is really really ugly where I am atm.
All the Yes signs are left alone, All the No ones are vandalised.
I wouldn't dare put a No sign up Sad
I would go to my local MSP, but she is a bit busy atm...

ffallada · 09/09/2014 10:44

Oh Annie,

Nationalism isn't an infantile thing.....there is nothing wrong with taking pride in your country and wanting it to behave like a country - making accountable decisions for its people.

There is something wrong with name calling and bulling. No child should be told to 'go home'. Its wrong and needs to be stamped on.

It will get better though. Once the ref is over we will either have to grow up and take responsibility for ourselves, or if a no vote happens we can hand over the responsibility back to Westminster and forget about it.

WildThong · 09/09/2014 10:45

first Shock at "an English accent can affect spelling"

{hug}

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2014 10:48

firstchoice I really feel for you Sad You and your family have been that target of some very nasty and narrow minded abuse Sad I'm glad that my family and (English) friends have never had to experience anything like that.

You should make sure you record and follow up on every incident because it is really not acceptable. It is such a shame that a few bigots on either side bring both sides down :-(
