Welcome to indyref 6

Spidergirl8 asked close to end of last thread:

What impact would independence have on fiscal policy and economic stability
What impact would the ageing population have on the future
Is the predicted future a positive one, based on fact

If the bite goes no, what has actually been achieved? Does that not just put Scotland on the back foot?

Let's try and give not too biased answers please!

I think if people are likely to leave in a few years but want to vote then they should vote. Fish from Marilion is voting yes despite plans to leave (www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/fish-turns-down-yes-role-over-germany-move-1-3479476) and I'm sure there are lots of others voting both ways who may not intend to be here for the long term.

The vote affects lots of people, both within and without Scotland. Anyone entitled to vote who wants to vote should do so.

More positivity from the No side - they really don't help their cause do they...

ffallada I only noticed one poster who said they were going to leave because of the poll rather than a knock-on effect of jobs moving, and that was a Yes voter.

WildThong · 06/09/2014 22:04

I don't think people are being funny by worrying about their future Ffallada
Hmm

More expert analysis from the DM...

Bloody fool. I wonder how much Salmond paid Miliband to say that...

SantanaLopez · 06/09/2014 22:07

FFS Miliband! What are they playing at?!

LatinForTelly · 06/09/2014 22:08

Thanks, ItsAll. I did have a wee look at a betting page and couldn't make head nor tail of it Grin. Will look at your link (while listening to the Beeb on the poll)

ffallada · 06/09/2014 22:09

It's unlikely (although not impossible by any means) that many companies will leave Scotland post ref if a yes vote goes through.
It is cheaper to employ people in Scotland than it is in London, buildings are cheaper too!
Most financial services provided here are not based in London for a reason, as I understand it, as it allows companies (banks in particular) to seperate functions and satisfy the regulator. (rBS (ok - not a great example of a successful bank) seperate out it's functions that way).
Most other companies work toward the bottom line - why would they relocate, cost themselves a lot of money initially by having to move, have to offer a package to allow workers out of their contrActs, and then pay those that do move more?
It doesn't make sense

WildThong · 06/09/2014 22:10

"More positivity from the No side - they really don't help their cause do they"

Does the Mail have a quote from Milliband to support that pathetic headline?

Greenwayslide · 06/09/2014 22:10

Sometimes I think WM actually want Scotland to leave but are pretending they don't.

Spidergirl8 · 06/09/2014 22:10

Lady- but I thought the TTIP would over rule that and mean Scotland is caught up in the privatisation, regardless of it being devolved?

prettybird · 06/09/2014 22:11

LadyCordelia - I asked earlier on the thread about the impact of TTIP on the NHS. Are you confirming that it wouldn't apply in Scotland?

Greenwayslide · 06/09/2014 22:11

But we will need to know what was actually said.

prettybird · 06/09/2014 22:11

Cross-posted Spidergirl Smile

ffallada · 06/09/2014 22:12

Trixy - it does sound like your particular offer to relocate has little to do with the referendum.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/09/2014 22:12

Sterlingisation isn't independence though

I'm sorry?Confused Are you saying that e.g. Panama is not an independent country?

trixymalixy · 06/09/2014 22:13

Anyone else feel like they're in an episode of In the Thick of it sometimes....,

Sallyingforth · 06/09/2014 22:13

Itsall where is the link to that please? I can't find it on line.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/09/2014 22:14

Itsall where is the link to that please? I can't find it on line

Which?

trixymalixy · 06/09/2014 22:14

Ffallada, the offer has nothing to do with the referendum. The potential loss of my current job does though.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/09/2014 22:14

ffallada have a read of my post for my reasons for believing it's likely. You'll note I don't say London - I'd suspect that's where official RBS/LLOyds head office/register office would go as they already have stuff there. But the rest could do to other places easily - York, Bristol and Leeds for example spring to mind
