Welcome to indyref 6

Spidergirl8 asked close to end of last thread:

What impact would independence have on fiscal policy and economic stability
What impact would the ageing population have on the future
Is the predicted future a positive one, based on fact

If the bite goes no, what has actually been achieved? Does that not just put Scotland on the back foot?

Let's try and give not too biased answers please!

Yes Spider the future looks that bleak. I feel physically sick looking at those figures.

OOAOML I bet you'll be glad to have a rest (from campaigning) after the referendum, sounds like you've been busy!
I'm looking forward to not having to do poster/badge runs, and having to carry spares everywhere.

Well yes it has been pretty busy recently, and having to fit in getting clothes washed, packed lunches made and my actual job as well is a bit of a challenge Wink

I'm glad I'm doing it though. Sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe (as you know yourself Smile). It is completely out of character for me to do this, but it means a lot to me so I have to do what I can.

trixymalixy · 06/09/2014 21:54

Me too Phaedra. I'm having sleepless nights worrying about my job, paying my mortgage and moving my kids.

OOAML Have a look at Scot goes Pop. Lots of poll analysis, including methodologies, how weighted etc

Polls really are just made up a best guess.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/09/2014 21:56

Spidergirl8 there are lots of posters on here who have either a) been told outright or b) had enough information given about the direction of the companies they work in to deduce that their jobs won't remain in Scotland. Many are in specialist roles which don't really exist outside their industry/company/whatever and so they would have to move.

SNP refuse to say what currency plan B

Salmond provided 3 plan Bs in latest debate with Darling.

LatinForTelly · 06/09/2014 21:56

Blimey at new poll results. What are the bookies saying?

Thing is, the Yes campaign and its rhetoric is seductive. The detail of the No isn't. The national mood is electric at the moment I think, and I can see 'don't knows' being swept up in it, and converted.

Hell, I am a No, and even I have been questioning myself. (Still a No, though. Wink)

Me too. I am so anxious. I so badly want to stay up here.

Iggi999 · 06/09/2014 21:57

Frankie two yes voters in my house and no posters in the windows - wouldn't occur to me to force my neighbours to look at my choice!
I still think it will be a no, because I think people will get cold feet when the time comes. Hope I'm wrong.
Would be interested in knowing how the 16 & 17 year olds will vote.

squoosh · 06/09/2014 21:57

I'm sure I read today that 57% of teens are No.

ffallada · 06/09/2014 21:58

Does anyone else find it quite funny when people threaten to leave their homes and relocate if there is a 'yes' vote?
Like somehow they are so important that it will influence other people how to vote?
Or perhaps they feel becoming martyrs will help their cause?
I would put money on not many people actually their packing bags on the 19th (on either side)

It isn't a threat. It is a cold hard fact that we will be leaving.

squoosh · 06/09/2014 21:59

Salmond has emphatically dodged the currency issue. I'm befuddled by people who get irritated on his behalf by people who raise it.

Spidergirl8 · 06/09/2014 21:59

I do worry about the years of hardship, both my children are under 5 and I'm the main earner. It's also hard to predict the future.

However, privatisation of the NHS, years of Tory decision making may mean an independent Scotland could develop into something much fairer and forward thinking....

It's going to be very hard to make a decision.

If you assume iScotland can't go with plan A on currency, then plan B would have to be stirlingisation for a period , then own currency/union depending on what is best.

Iggi999 · 06/09/2014 22:00

I don't want people to lose their jobs and have to move. I'd like to hope the situation up here could lead to chances to come back to us in the future, at least.
But while I can see that is another for an affected individual to decide to vote no, I don't think it can be enough for everyone - lots of people will hopefully be affected by independence in very positive ways, and it is ok to think of them too.

Sorry, see that is enough

trixymalixy · 06/09/2014 22:01

Ffallada, DH and I have already been offered work in Switzerland. He has been wanting to move there for a long time, I'm not so keen, I'd never get another job in Glasgow if I left. If however our jobs go then we're off.

That's the truth of it.
