Welcome to indyref 6

Spidergirl8 asked close to end of last thread:

What impact would independence have on fiscal policy and economic stability
What impact would the ageing population have on the future
Is the predicted future a positive one, based on fact

If the bite goes no, what has actually been achieved? Does that not just put Scotland on the back foot?

Let's try and give not too biased answers please!

I think it's very telling that despite the lead in the polls there has been no crowing or nastiness from yes posters.

I thought it was just the Yougov poll that had Yes ahead? Has there been another one?

Polonium · 07/09/2014 12:00

And what about the people who care about Scotland but don't have a vote?

deeedeee · 07/09/2014 12:00

Sorry, meant poll. Figure of speech :-)

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/09/2014 12:01

I'm not going to trawl through your threads but in general I find a lot of your posts extremely aggressive about anyone who doesn't fit your ideal of being Scottish and working class.

Sallyingforth · 07/09/2014 12:02

I would prefer it, however, if a No vote decision was for positive reasons rather than based on fear

But scone, fear is a perfectly adequate reason for avoiding something.

Yes is about accepting the unknown instead of the status quo.
No is about accepting the status quo instead of the unknown.

Both are reasonable human responses in the face of a leap into the dark. You cannot say that your choice is any more valid than Phaedra's

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/09/2014 12:03

Agree deedee shall we derail it away from nazism?

OP posts:
PhaedraIsMyName · 07/09/2014 12:03

Really sqoosh. I suggest you read some on here. Including the poster telling me off for expressing my sadness if this were to happen

TheBogQueen · 07/09/2014 12:04

Polonium - are you 12?

FannyFifer · 07/09/2014 12:04

That's utter bollocks & by that comment I assume you think I am working class. Again with the generalisations about those of us voting Yes.

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/09/2014 12:04

Scone , that's just more of telling people how they must think.

deeedeee · 07/09/2014 12:05

I have no seen any offensive, insulting or rude language for fannyfifer. If you are going to accuse her if that then please do be bothered to trawl back and find them :-)

FannyFifer · 07/09/2014 12:06

My partner & children are not Scottish you clearly have me mixed up in your rush to generalise.

deeedeee · 07/09/2014 12:07

Sorry stat I must stop looking at my phone before my husband righteously divorces me x another day!

By the way stat, totally respect your posts even if we feel completely differently!

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/09/2014 12:11

. I would prefer it, however, if a No vote decision was for positive reasons rather than based on fear

And why do you blithely assume I don't have positive reasons? I have been given no hard positive reasons from your side to take this blind leap of faith.

Salmond is an egotistical liar. He is deliberately not using powers he already has.

sconequeen · 07/09/2014 12:11

There has been a lot of constructive argument on both sides on this thread, and, as I've said before, I've appreciated some of the counter-yes arguments even if I haven't agreed with them.

Prettypictures is right to say that we all want the best for our country. That's what this debate is all about.

It's a shame that there are a few posters on here who have descended to the lowest forms of insults. I'm not finding this in the debate in RL where I am finding a great deal of respect on each side.

AnnieHoo · 07/09/2014 12:14

I am voting NO for positive reasons Smile.

I believe in economic security and civic unity with Rest of UK.

sconequeen · 07/09/2014 12:14

I didn't say that my choice is more valid than Phaedra's. I said I respected her views and emotions.

Phaedra: your reasons may well be positive. I haven't seen that positivity expressed here, however. There has been an unending stream of positivity from the Yes voters here and the Yes campaign generally.

sconequeen · 07/09/2014 12:16

Anniehoo - fine with me. I respect your view even if I don't agree with it.Smile

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/09/2014 12:18

An unending stream of positivity with no substance and no thought for the consequences.

Polonium · 07/09/2014 12:18

I get the impression it's more an education divide than a class divide. The well educated are voting no and the poorly educated voting yes. And the poorly educated are probably on average poorer than the well educated (for obvious reasons). This is my impression gained from a non-empirical sample of course. We are all allowed our own opinions on this thread.

And probably the very young are more likely to vote yes too. As they have no wealth whatsoever and they favour excitement/action over sameness/inaction.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 07/09/2014 12:20

Positive No supporter here. Annie sums it up!

trixymalixy · 07/09/2014 12:22

I would agree with that Polonium. I also think its not a coincidence that the FS professionals on here who have probably studied some economics and have a better understanding than most are voting no.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 07/09/2014 12:24

Re education certificates, Polonium that is not my experience.

I do feel however that I am a non-believer looking in at a revivalist meeting. There was a highly educated poster a few threads ago who felt (amongst other reasons for a Yes vote) that an independent Scotland would be a good thing to battle climate change Confused.

sconequeen · 07/09/2014 12:27

Well, I've got post-graduate qualifications, have studied economics and earn a decent living actually. The people I am out canvassing with are also well educated and well informed. And we are all in our hearts and heads very excited about what we believe will be the very positive consequences of a Yes vote.

Polonium · 07/09/2014 12:28

Barderbunga - I didn't say anything about certificates. Confused
