Evening all :)

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 20:18

Oh for goodness sake. Deeedeee I've been on mumsnet for years. You'll notice several of the other regulars recognised me. I recognise several of the Yes and No posters. I'm not paid to be here (I bloody wish!Grin)

It's alright, I've been told I'm greedy, selfish, don't understand the real world...maybe I can join you in cloud cuckoo land?

It sounds like it would be a lot more peaceful. Grin

deeedeee No-one should ignore/belittle you for what you said in thread one, I think we've all said things out of context and apologised for it, human nature and heated debates and all...
I can't speak for lurkers, and I've only been on MN since June myself, but of the No voters who I've seen post regularly on this thread, Statistically", OOAMOL (Sorry if I got that wrong, but you'll know who I mean!) and SantanaLopez* at least all seem genuine to me. Not saying the rest aren't (I don't remember everyone's names) but just as they contribute a lot, and I've seen them around MN as well as these threads, and their posts are interesting, even if I don't necessarily agree.

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 20:30

Sorry for my punctuation abuse around the usernames there. Hmm

deeedeee · 03/09/2014 20:38

Cheers numanoid! It's an aibu thing as much as a yes/ no thing, being told you're rude by people who are being rude to you! I've been on mumsnet/ aibu for years too , just lost my password in the board password reset thingamy so signed up again . Recognise statistically, and think she probably works with my husband too.

But still think there's mileage in the conspiracy theory. Especially since on thread one someone said mumsnet was being love bombed by the yes campaign

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 20:42

Shock didn't think I was that obvious, no outing please!

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 20:44

I do agree there has been some unnecessary name-calling, and generalisation of Yes voters. I haven't kept up with the thread very well, but from what I've read, I don't see anything wrong with your posts deeedeee, wouldn't blame anyone for getting a bit frustrated with this topic. Grin

I don't know about people being paid to post, I don't think they would. I mean it is possible, but I don't know if it's likely. Seems more likely that people would perhaps join just to post on the referendum issue, but I think that would probably be more their own choice, if they did.

TeamScotland · 03/09/2014 20:48

numanoid re feeling excited about the referendum ... Me too!

AFewFallenLeaves · 03/09/2014 20:51

Well I've posted on and off for a few years in the past but change my name every wee while. I started on these threads as votingdilemma then did return and mentioned the name change because I felt there was a lot of stereotyping about those who might not think Yes was the righteous way to vote. I'm a left-leaning Internationalist Smile I just invented that for myself!

Then there is a very persistent poster who really has yanked my chain but who in return feels victimised. I did muse to myself that she/he may be a plant! Paranoia rules OK!

frankie80 · 03/09/2014 20:51

there's a debate on tonight? What time/channel?

I can't keep up with them all. Blush

My dad told me tonight to 'be careful' on the 19th and not tell anyone how I've voted :(

AFewFallenLeaves · 03/09/2014 20:53

That should have read that I returned to counter the stereotyping of non Yes voters. I definitely need to give it all up now though!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 20:56

It's on BBC at 9

JimMurphysHump · 03/09/2014 20:56

I was out door knocking the other day and was asked by a voter if I was paid to be there. Not sure they believed me when I said no!

I too am dreading the 19th. DH has offered to book us somewhere for the weekend that is remote enough to have no phone signal, and no TV. Kinda depends how the result goes though!

I've NCed recently and have only been posting on this thread (because I'm too busy) but I'm a longterm MNer. Been around since the start of 2010.

Think I might have to head for an early night tonight. About ready to drop and I need to keep going for another 2 weeks. Folk keep commenting on how well I'm doing losing weight. Can't be the diet as I'm consuming mainly chocolate and coffee and gin so must be all the campaigning.

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 20:57

I'm not sure how it'll be on the night of the 18th TeamScotland, but hoping the positivity continues! :)

Ooh meant to say, the Sunday Herald are doing a Yes selfie (I hate that word, and the whole selfie craze, but bear with me) feature. You send in a "selfie" I presume with something 'yess-y' like a poster, mug, sticker... and they will put it in their September 14th issue, the last one before the referendum. :) Would be a cool thing to be part of, even if it'll just be a little photo, should be fairly easy to identify yourself and have something to keep, that you were part of.
I can't link to most pages about it at the moment, but if you Google 'Sunday Herald Yes selfie' or something similar, you'll find it.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 03/09/2014 21:05

I'm real.

I think

i have been on MN so long I can't remember when i signed up, but Cod was still openly swimming these seas.

But seriously, it's quite revealing that you think No posters might not be all they seem - why is it so hard to believe that we are real Scottish voters with very real concerns about a Yes vote?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 03/09/2014 21:06

debate is on - can I face it Grin

InAtTheDeepEnd25 · 03/09/2014 21:08

Been lurking here and read pretty much all of the posts - yes I'm off work! Would I be right in saying that most Yes voters are voting so more to elect a Socialist government than for an independent Scotland? In theory the two are not the same. My reason for asking is that many Yes voters seem more malcontent with the UK government than being part of a Union with England, Wales and NI. If the former then isn't the independence debate a bit skewed and you are using separation as a means to a political end and not in the interests of the UK as a whole?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 21:10

I dunno, will Souter make you want to throw things at your TV?

JimMurphysHump · 03/09/2014 21:13

Nope. Not to do with a socialist government. I have had folk say to me a few times "ohh, you won't be able to blame Westminster for things now". But that's really the point. We should have a Scottish Government making decisions for Scotland that we can hold to account. If they do things we don't like then we can get rid of them.

There's a group been started called something like 'conservative Scots for Yes' that agrees with self determination and better democracy for Scotland but doesn't agree with a lot of the more socialist stand points in the white paper.

The point is that we'd get to choose our own government : right, left, in the middle or wherever.

JimMurphysHump · 03/09/2014 21:15

And actually, one of my biggest reasons for voting Yes is that I'd like an immigration policy that suits Scotland, with more immigration, particularly from non EU countries. No chance of us getting that with a government acting in the interests of SE england.

InAtTheDeepEnd25 · 03/09/2014 21:21

Thanks JimMurphysHump I guess I'm just struggling to see how this would suit the Borders, Wales, NI, the North, Cornwall i.e. anyone except the SE.

SantanaLopez · 03/09/2014 21:22

Jim, you won't get that in an independent Scotland either.

If you're in the CTA, there's a common policy, set by.... you guessed it!

If you're in Schengen, there's another common policy...

Been on Mumsnet for about 3/4 years. I post a fair bit across a number of threads. Not aware of any conspiracy but I would be the last to know.
