I'm not going to get into this but it's really overly simplistic to say that pay depends on "supply and demand". In particular sectors, all other things being equal, then pay will respond to demand, but it by no means provides an overall picture of pay differentials across sectors.

Have never read the Daily Mail. And we seem to be back to the "Yes voters only care about their own money" whining, while of course 'No' voters are altruistic, forward thinking, caring, artistic forward thinkers who just want the world to be a better place.

Captain I agree with you. I have been really taken aback at the real negativity of the No voters on this thread. It's almost like they're wishing for a doom and gloom scenario. Also the name calling by some Sad Apparently there's is a typical yes voter. They are workshy ignorant and stupid, who knew Shock
I'm not surprised that there are more people turning towards yes!

WildThong · 03/09/2014 19:36

Ha, keep singing ladies, there's attacks going on and it's not from us! Grin

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 19:36

Do you mean it the other way round? I assume you meant to accuse Yes voters of whining, and say No voters are accused of only thinking about their own money.

tilliebob · 03/09/2014 19:37

I keep hearing that a YES vote isn't a vote for wee Eck or the SNP, yet YES voters in my family and in my reality are voting YES because they "hate David Cameron". I can't work out if it's about personalities or not based on that....

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 19:39

Celticlass2 I'm a Yes voter, don't use big words like 'negativity'. Wink

Ach, best to ignore insults and such. From what I've seen and heard campaigning and talking to people, there's a real momentum with the Yes vote. I was worried before, but now feel more excited about the referendum. :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 19:40

Of course we're going to be negative about independence, we think it's a bad choice. I'm certainly not wishing for a doom and gloom scenario but I can foresee one as a potential outcome. Why is our negativity unacceptable yet the determined "it will all be awesome" positivity of some Yes voters is not questioned.

Do remember this is the 4th thread so views have maybe got a bit more strident as we've got fed up of anything positive we say getting twisted against us.

I'm pretty sure I've not called Yes voters any of those things.

WildThong · 03/09/2014 19:42

numanoid et al, yup Blush got 'em wrong way round - at least shows you read it! On here far too much today

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 19:43

I see that Brian Souter is apparently on tonight's debate Shock

Only one or two posters on both sides have resorted to name calling or casting aspersions. But if something is repeated often enough it becomes a fact, therefore all no-ers have called all yes-ers workshy, ignorant, stupid, etc etc....

Sallyingforth · 03/09/2014 19:48

captaincarter
Welcome to MN. I see you have even been briefed to mention the Daily Mail. Well done!

There are some here who will be glad of your support. You are a good exponent of the Yes philosophy - lots of platitudes and deflections but no actual answers to any serious questions.

Of course you don't like people asking about the crucial issues that need to be resolved. But they will need to be addressed if you get that independence. I'll leave you now to continue with your appointed task.

deeedeee · 03/09/2014 19:55

Yes I agree numanoid, there is a real
momentum. Even if yes doesn't win it'll be close enough to 50/50 to effect some change.

If you're talking about shutting down the debate and ignoring things you disagree with I've lost track of the amount of times I've posted and been completely ignored in this thread, just because I'm not talking the same economic doom laden talk as the rest of you. For instance I posted a link to robin macalpine from the common weal project speaking in favour of independance three times, asking for feedback. One pacificdogfish watched it and commented. Everyone else completely ignored me.

prettybird · 03/09/2014 19:59

At an anecdotal level which I know is not scientific I can confirm Weatherall's statement about btl properties. I have a significant amount of savings (and a very small mortgage) and I am fed up of the paltry interest rates. I've seriously been considering buying a btl property (or two) as the rent I would earn would be significantly more than I get even from the highest rate ISAs (not that I could put all of the savings into ISAs). Unfortunately dh is risk averse and not keen

Personally, I would be happy for interest rates to go up! :)

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 20:00

StatisticallyChallenged Not that I want to insult anyone for any reason, but I've been careful to word things so that people don't take it offensively on these threads. Not because it's meant that way, but so that it isn't misinterpreted.

This is just general musing and not in reply to you personally, Statistically, I don't remember twisting anything against anyone (sorry if I have), but that I can remember, I have been told I'm "ridiculous", "living in cloud cuckoo land", that my views are "dumb", and others I can't remember. Granted, it was mostly from someone who hasn't posted in this thread.

Numanoid · 03/09/2014 20:03

I'm the same sometimes, WildThong. Grin too long in front of a screen and sometimes even I don't know what I mean (which is bad if it's a work email)!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 20:04

deeedeee I'm often posting somewhere where watching a video wouldn't be possible IYSWIM so I don't tend to watch any that are posted.

feelingmellow · 03/09/2014 20:05

Do you know I'm starting to forget who supports which side on this thread! (Apart from one or two who shall remain nameless) I clearly need a break.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/09/2014 20:09

Numanoid I wasn't meaning you in particular, but sometimes it can get a bit "haha, but you said..." - kind of like the shouting that's going on about "Alistair Darling said we can use the pound" outside of here where yes, he did, but you're kind taking it out of context.

It's alright, I've been told I'm greedy, selfish, don't understand the real world...maybe I can join you in cloud cuckoo land?

deeedeee · 03/09/2014 20:13

I said I'd had enough of everyone's voting no's nonsense and told everyone to wheesht in thread one when they started doing this juggernaut thing in a thread I started to hear what people were voting. I've paid for it since, no one will discuss anything with me since . Every time I comment I get either completely ignored or belittled and called stupid.

I keep checking back out if some morbid curiousity. But mainly I'm too busy going about my business whilst having inspiring exciting discussions about political ideologies with my local work and home community and online! This is the only place in Scotland I know that is as negative at the moment.

I almost start to believe the covern theory. Apparently it's women voters that swing this. It's not completely ludrucious that there'd be a team of people paid to post on here . The rest if the media is biased, and mumsnet is pretty mainstream and influential . Bet there's loads of lurkers reading this thread!
