Aibu to judge this mum in Pizza Hut?

Ok, I admit my judgy pants were pulled very high and maybe I'm being unreasonable about this.

So myself and my kids were in Pizza Hut today at lunchtime. A lady was out with her 3 boys who at a guess were 6,9 and 11. Each of the boys had an iPad mini and played on them throughout, even whilst eating. They had headphones on which I guess is good in terms of noise disturbance but as a result there was no talking between any of them. When the waitress asked if everything was ok they didn't hear so the mum spoke for them.
The mum spent all of her time on her iPhone.
Aibu to think this is a bit sad? And no, I really don't think any of them had special needs, although I accept it is technically possible.

"I would have made sure mine thanked the waitress"

So do I, now he could talk, he couldn't when he was 5.

A break from what Idontseeanysontarans?

Idontseeanysontarans · 02/09/2014 17:41

Noise...

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 17:47

Why is SN an issue for this post?

Because my DS has his iPad with headphones on in public places, it's the only way he can deal with them for now. So he doesn't get a sensory overload.

He never used the ipad in the house, or when he is playing in streams or climbing trees, but he needs to learn to desensitise to public places and we do it slowly, using his iPad.

Luckily most people aren't nasty enough to judge.

Some are, but that says more about them as a person than me as a mother

"A break from what Idontseeanysontarans?"

stupid questions?

My ds has ASD and SPD so restaurants are difficult for him. He uses 'gadgetry' at the table when we eat out on holiday.

We rarely eat out in this country though. Some people in the UK are just so rude we generally can't be bothered with it.

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 18:00

6 weeks isn't a long time is it not wombles?

Is it a long time with no sleep bar one night a week? And I'm lucky I have that because DSs dad is still around for him.

And no, I can't sleep when DS is asleep because it's not safe if I don't wake up.

Beetlemilk · 02/09/2014 18:03

'Why have kids if they exhaust you after just 6 weeks? Seriously. You chose this.'

You are very much lacking in empathy and/or imagination wombles.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 02/09/2014 18:06

So, no one can answer my Q? 6 weeks is not really a long time.

I COULD answer it, but honestly I can't be arsed. Again, if you can figure it out from reading the thread, us spelling it out for you isn't going to make it sink in any better. Hmm

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 02/09/2014 18:08

can't figure it out.. sigh.. bloody hate typos

Seriously?

This just proves that you cannot fucking win, fresh off the heels of the thread when everyone was moaning like fuck about kids making the slightest noise when out.

Could they not just sit there, silent and motionless?

Bloody kids.

Bulbasaur · 02/09/2014 18:55

Welcome to parenthood. You will be judged no matter what you do. Best to stop giving a shit now. Grin

It's not like Pizza Hut is a high class sit down restaurant anyway. I'm not sure what level of sophistication you're expecting people to have in a take out place. Places like that are too noisy, crowded, and fast paced to have meaningful conversations in the first place.

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 19:03

When I go to Pizza Hut, you get your own drinks and there's normally a family at the other side of the restaurant bellowing drinks orders to the adult that's getting the drinks.

"No tony no ice, but get us a straw! And our Tyler wants 7up, no not diet!"

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 19:05

That wasn't a judgy post by the way, I don't really care, it's just funny that it's the norm in Pizza Hut here to shout across the room. I haven't seen one family not do it,

Apart from mine of course, because I'm a shit mum and my DS is busy learning to spell on his iPad and can't ask complex questions.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 02/09/2014 19:12

Ds1 can't generally cope with going to Pizza Hut anyway. We have it delivered and sit around watching telly and eating at home. Grin

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 19:14

Alice, we sometimes even order pizza to eat snuggled up in my bed watching a film if DS is tired after a bad seizure.

I'm clearly the shittest of parents around. Wink

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 02/09/2014 19:16

It's cheaper to have it delivered anyway. Drinks at home, just order food. No petrol, no parking.

No nosy people nearby judging.....

TheGingerBreadWoman · 02/09/2014 19:23

I would far rather see 3 kids on their iPads sitting quietly and not disturbing anyone else than 3 kids running amok and ruining everyone's time in Pizza Hut and a stressed out mum trying desperately hard to get them to sit and eat and wishing she were elsewhere!!

Maybe that's me!

Hurr1cane · 02/09/2014 19:23

And good TV Smile

hazeyjane · 02/09/2014 19:31

Was going to post something insightful, but now I just want to eat pizza in bed whilst watching 30 Rock.

maninawomansworld · 02/09/2014 19:44

Assuming that there were indeed no SN's to complicate things then judge away.
Totally appalling IMO. Rude, antisocial and lazy, lazy parenting.
No electronic gadgets at the dinner table - ever!

And we all wonder why this world is going to the dogs.

Me too! In fact I remember a road trip, where all us kids were loud and noisy in the car, and when we got to the restaurant we all pulled out our game boys and played quietly. It was bliss for everyone involved.
