Ordered my weekly shop yesterday, just groceries and baby food, nothing that is age restricted. The delivery guy wouldn't let me sign for it as I have no proof I'm over 18. I am almost 22 with a 10mo baby. We have no food at all so I can't even cook his dinner.

I am furious!! Why on earth do I have to prove I'm over 18 to buy a chicken and some veg? Especially when I could go in store and purchase exactly what I have ordered and wouldn't even need to be 16 never mind 18! So thanks to fucking Tesco both me and my son will be going hungry tonight. Arseholes.

I'm in two minds of carrying ds to Tesco to kick off a bit, how can they let a baby go hungry like that for no logical reason? I'm actually in tears I'm so bloody angry!!! Ughhhh!!!

What a stupid rule.

I fully understand the need for ID if buying knives, alcohol or smoking products. However, groceries...?? Stupid!

I have stuff delivered and have never been ID'd.

I assume that this means I fully look like the rancid old hag I am.

mindthegap79 · 04/09/2014 00:02

I had no idea there was such a rule - bloody Ocado have never asked me for ID, bastards sighs and attempts to suction in the signs of age

Darksideofthemoon88 · 04/09/2014 08:30

A few people are stating that the OP was 'clearly over 18' - how was this clear??? Hmm

ValerieTheVodkaFairy · 04/09/2014 08:37

darkside because presumably she was holding her 10 month old baby?

I don't get why everyone is being so patronising to the OP. She's an adult woman who only wanted to buy some bloody groceries. She wouldn't have the same problem if she walked into a Tesco shop, so why at home?

Unless you really do look about 12, OP?

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 04/09/2014 08:48

In the last month I've had to produce photographic ID for:

Cross channel ferry... Passport

And?...I went on holiday abroad for a week recently, with no passport, no bank card, just clothes & cash. I just walked through customs 4 times & guess what?...I wasn't stopped or asked for ID either.

Darksideofthemoon88 · 04/09/2014 15:50

How does that make her over 18, Valerie? Hmm

DownByTheRiverside · 04/09/2014 16:39

You were lucky, Streamtrain, bit like me and riding a bike.
I never wore a cycling helmet, neither did any of my fellow students and none of us ever had an accident involving a severe head injury. Lucky.

YouTheCat · 04/09/2014 16:44

As the Tesco driver went into her home and there were birthday cards with '22' on them, I'd say that was a huge giveaway that the OP was over 18.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 04/09/2014 17:59

Though I did have a boarding pass & return tickets (sorry, I should've said that in my last post).

Darksideofthemoon88 · 04/09/2014 19:41

Not really, Youthecat, just that somebody had recently turned 22. If the OP had been a myster shopper, do you really think the driver would've passed the test if he'd said she was obviously over 18 because she had a baby and there were cards for a 22nd birthday lying around?!

jellybelly701 · 04/09/2014 19:45

In a tiny two bed house where is this 'somebody' else sleeping? There are pictures of me and my son on the wall directly above the cards. So it was obvious it was my house.

I would imagine the river might have thought you had a partner. Possibly even a same sex one.

Anyway, did you complain about the T&Cs? Did you take what the CS person said to you further?

Nessalina · 05/09/2014 10:30

So did you complain in the end OP?
Have you got your money back?

hormonalandneedingcheese · 05/09/2014 11:15

I would complain online, i find this odd. When I was younger I remember several occasions I brought from Tesco- I was never asked for ID despite being in school uniform.

kali110 · 06/09/2014 22:37

Agree with you capt. How is the driver meant to know who had turned 22? Just because op had a baby that makes her over 18? A girl in my school had a baby at 13...
