hairy pits

I was on the train the other day in a sleeveless top and had a good stretch. I noticed the lady on the row of seats opposite looking curiously at my pits - I don't shave through personal choice, it doesn't personally bother me hence I see no point, I was just curious to know what people actually thought? I've not had any comments, save for people discussing how disgusting they think hairy armpits on women are in general and then looking horribly embarassed when they realise that I do Grin .

I only shave mine once or twice a week, but I keep them covered up when hairy. I don't really count two or three days stubble as properly hairy.

Bifauxnen · 28/08/2014 18:22

With all these cries of "ew gross", I feel like I'm back in middle school.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2014 18:22

My mom doesn't shave her pits regularly and when they are on show I have to look away - it makes me feel a bit nauseous!!

prettywhiteguitar · 28/08/2014 18:23

I went natural until summer and then shaved, I think if I lived somewhere really hot and I was tanned all the time I wouldn't bother.

But I dislike my hairy white legs, armpits you can get away with I think ;)

Mrsfrumble · 28/08/2014 19:50

Obviously going to out myself as a total weirdo here.... But I think there is something rather sexually attractive about female hairy pits. Maybe because it's so taboo?

I do shave but I'm pretty lazy about it, and it's so hot here I've worn nothing but vests, t shirts and short-sleeved dresses since April. I don't mind if some people think it's gross, as long as they recognize their response is due to social conditioning.

MrsDavidBowie · 28/08/2014 19:55

I would never have hairy armpits.
I find underarm hair on both men and women revolting.

squoosh · 28/08/2014 19:57

On all men?

MrsDavidBowie · 28/08/2014 20:07

Yes.
Ditto hairy backs.

MrsKoala · 28/08/2014 20:08

I don't shave/wax underarms often. I have dark hair and fair skin so when i shave you can still see the roots, which i think looks worse and waxing means a few weeks of regrowth.

redshifter · 28/08/2014 20:10

It makes him feel physically sick.

I have to look away - it makes me feel a bit nauseous!!

if i see someone with hairy pits i think they are a bit gross

FFS I really find these attitudes hard to believe and very, very strange.
And a bit sad really.

Unfuckingbelievable.

And WEIRD

It's not just me is it?

Please?

MrsDavidBowie · 28/08/2014 20:13

Ha squooshthat is shaved or cut very short.
David is not a hairy man

Writerwannabe83 · 28/08/2014 20:13

Ditto to men with hairy backs. Eew.

I love a nice hairy chest though!!

itsbetterthanabox · 28/08/2014 20:15

Those who think it's unhygienic do you think all men are unhygienic and smell bad? Genuinely? Or have you never realised that men and women's pits are the same?

Castlemilk · 28/08/2014 20:35

Mine are hairy - I like them that way - I actually never think about them at all really.

I have shaved them in the past, and they were sweatier and smellier.

I don't really notice if other people are shaved or not.

Fairylea · 28/08/2014 20:41

I don't like hairy arm pits on women or men. It's not a sexist thing for me. I just think if deodorant is going straight onto skin rather than on top of hair that can't be a bad thing and in my experience hairless arm pit people generally smell fresher.

My dh shaves his pits. He has tattoos in them instead! (Tattoos of roses - he is tattooed everywhere from the neck down).

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/08/2014 20:59

I'm sorry if this offends, but I find them gross too and I know I'm not in the minority! I also hate the feel of hair there and shave every morning, it takes about 10 seconds.

MrsCurrent · 28/08/2014 21:03

I think I would probably take a second glance but it wouldn't be malicious, it would just be cos it's different to mine and I'm curious. I will attack my underarm stubble at least once a day as I really hate hair being there, but then my legs are currently like a carpet and that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Next time give it a little stroke and see if they look away :)

LetTheRiverAnswer · 28/08/2014 21:12

Ooh, I must be really beyond the pail, I have hairy pits (on show sometimes!), and I use hippy deodrant Shock. I quite like it, better than stubble anyway. I think it has a certain earthy appeal. French used to be well known for it, after all.

AdoraBell · 28/08/2014 21:15

I do shave when I CBA but would not judge anyone who doesn't.

For those who say it's gross, what is wrong with an adult human looking like an adult?

Morloth · 28/08/2014 21:23

People can think whatever they like about my body hair. I am generous that way.

As long as they keep their traps shut we can both stay happy.

ouryve · 28/08/2014 21:31

I only bother shaving when I'm going to be out in public in a cap sleeved top, simply to avoid spider legs. I don't bother shaving when I'm in longer sleeves, most of the time. I have noticed that I get sweatier and smellier with shaved pits and I find that underarm seams are more likely to irritate me, when I've shaved.

As for the idea upthread that it looks like pubes - it's just hair, ffsHmm

PacificDogwood · 28/08/2014 21:31

No, shifter, it's not just you.

Aeroflotgirl · 28/08/2014 21:39

Also think it's gross, I also hate male underarm hair too.

PickledSprout · 28/08/2014 21:48

I shave sporadically. DH gets too frisky if I don't!

MrsMook · 28/08/2014 21:58

I'm normally a bit stubbly. I can't be bothered with permanent shaving rash, and I often feel more sweaty and smelly when freshly shaved.

TBH, I don't spend much time analysing armpits, mine or other's.
