To be looking forward to Winter

phonebox · 27/08/2014 19:11

It's got to be better than this awful limbo of a season we're experiencing now.

I am looking forward to putting the heating on without feeling guilty, enjoying hot chocolate with lashings of cream (because when it's cold you need the energy), making stews, wrapping up in lots of woolly layers and stomping around in my boots, having the fire on in the pub...

But then again I'm not looking forward to the lack of sunshine, defrosting the car windshield in the dark (though only did that twice last Winter!) and driving around with perma-cold hands.

I give it until the 2nd week in November until I get the winter blues.

What do we reckon?

I like winter, spring and summer until the wasps appear! I love crisp and clear and I love snow. I hate the days that feel as though it never actually got light.

superstarheartbreaker · 28/08/2014 22:56

No : I am a summer lover here. If it's not 30 degrees, sunny and if I can't walk around in a bikini I'm not interested. I love a nice, crisp, sunny autumn day but clouds, rain and ice and darkness...nah.
This is one reason why I'm considering moving to sunny climates.

mum9876 · 28/08/2014 22:57

We haven't had that great a summer really

Eh? We had weeks of unbearable heat. Fans on 24/7 some days. I look like I've been tangoed even though I normally wear factor 30 most days.

I like lighting the first fire of the winter and being all cosy. Giant spider in our bathroom today. They're all coming in. I'm battening down the hatches now.

BreadForBrains · 29/08/2014 11:16

mum I would say we had a nicer few weeks than usual, but not weeks and weeks of unbearable heat. To be absolutely honest, August has been dreary and a bit of a wash out!
We have had the heating on and fire going again. Bring on autumn I say Grin

sillystring · 29/08/2014 11:18

I quite like not having to justify sitting around in slipper socks and tartan lounge pants by 4.30pm....on a weekday....

Lagoonablue · 29/08/2014 11:23

Noticed the leaves are turning near me and John Lewis has some Halloween stuff in! Bloody hell, will soon be xmas.

I like all of the seasons tbh and enjoy the changes in the weather. What I do hate though is damp, cold, dark days. I like sunny and crisp but live in the NW where it is always raining.

beccajoh · 29/08/2014 11:25

I love winter! Woolly tights and boots, hot drinks, blankets on knees, no need to shave my legs, comfort food, snow. Love it! I'm not a summer person at all.

ikeaismylocal · 29/08/2014 11:32

I really love autumn, I love the colours of the leaves and the chill in the air, I like the fact that you don't have to worry about dc either baking or freezing they can just run about with a jumper on.

My ideal would be autumn starting on September 1st and winter starting on November 20th and spring starting on January 15, unfortunately where I live it's not unusual to still have snow in May :(

ephemeralfairy · 29/08/2014 11:33

I love winter weather, and winter clothes, and making stews and casseroles.
As an emotophobe however, winter vomiting bugs scare the life out of me.

Methe · 29/08/2014 11:35

I recon the best thing about living in the uk is ours wonderful seasons.. I get excited about all of them!

BadLad · 29/08/2014 11:52

I love wearing winter clothes, the excitement of Christmas, the congested football fixtures.

But I miss the cricket and the superb long sunny evenings of the summer.

amyhamster · 29/08/2014 11:57

it's only been like this the last couple of weeks!
June & July were glorious!

Itsjustmeagain · 29/08/2014 13:59

I like it when we have proper winter weather BUT normally we just get cloud and rain, we get very little snow where I am its just rains, for months. This year we had a few weeks warm weather and now its back to rain and cloud...depressing.

curiousgeorgie · 29/08/2014 14:27

I adore winter... When there starts to be a chill in the air I get really excited about the darker days, warm clothes, having the fire on and covering up with a throw...

I love Halloween, I love firework night, I love Christmas Grin

I can't wait!

squoosh · 29/08/2014 15:25

I love all seasons.

BolshierAyraStark · 29/08/2014 15:35

YANBU, love autumn & winter-hate spring with a passion though...

squoosh · 29/08/2014 15:36

How can anyone hate Spring!?!

Daffodils, Easter eggs, MY birthday.

Wise up chum.

curiousgeorgie · 29/08/2014 15:56

Because spring is like winter 2... But without the joy of Christmas! Wink

GrouchyKiwi · 29/08/2014 16:02

yanbu Winter clothes are the best. And casseroles with baked potatoes are also the best. I love being cosy. You can't be cosy on Summer.

MehsMum · 29/08/2014 16:03

I burn to a crisp in the sun... but I hate the bloody winter. Starts too early, lasts too long, and we have an old draughty house. Also it has to be -10 for DH to think it's even vaguely cold enough to wear a hat, so we have thermostat battles. CH not on yet, no fires have been lit, and he's still leaving the bathroom window open.

Hate the days when it never gets light. Roll on a proper summer with weeks of hot sunny days.

Shakey1500 · 29/08/2014 16:04

Yanbu as I adore winter and would pick over summer any day of the week.

However, being as I have just spent the hours of 9-6 completely child free and in solitude on an idyllic Greek beach, lazing the day away complete with a gorgeous wine filled lunch at a taverna, then today may just be an exception Grin

polomoomin · 29/08/2014 16:39

Yanbu. I LOVE Winter. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons. Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas if not anything else Wink. Love the early darkness because DC actually go to bladdy sleep... Love Autumm/winter clothes, love snuggling up watching movies with the heating on, love having an excuse to sip hot chocolate and cream. I love all of the baking and warm stodgy foods. Ooh it gets me all excited it does.

I'm glad Autumn seems to have come early this year and we didn't have much of a summer tbh. Summer makes me grumpy when I get all hot, sticky and bothered and feel really gross, can't sleep, sun gives me a headache and makes me squint. Angry

BolshierAyraStark · 29/08/2014 16:58

Because it usually rains a fair bit in spring but when the sun comes out it always looks deceptively like a summers day-but it's not, obv.

BreadForBrains · 29/08/2014 17:48

Do you know, bolshier, I was just going to add that I could happily do without spring.
Too expectant of the good weather to come but still bloody cold and damp.
Oh. And daffodils properly smell of piss. Actual urine. Gross.

daisychain01 · 29/08/2014 18:05

I dont enjoy the heat, Im a Spring and Autumn girl me.

phonebox promise you wont say a word, but last night I stuck the old elecky blanket on for a quick warm up before bedtime, awww it was lovely. It has been getting nippier by the day.

Apparently Sept will be a lovely month, but I think it will be those lovely balmy days rather than seering heat of Jun/Jul, so its just the right temps.

Oh I forgot to say YANBU really, as regards moving the seasons on and enjoying creature comforts!
