To be looking forward to Winter

It's got to be better than this awful limbo of a season we're experiencing now.

I am looking forward to putting the heating on without feeling guilty, enjoying hot chocolate with lashings of cream (because when it's cold you need the energy), making stews, wrapping up in lots of woolly layers and stomping around in my boots, having the fire on in the pub...

But then again I'm not looking forward to the lack of sunshine, defrosting the car windshield in the dark (though only did that twice last Winter!) and driving around with perma-cold hands.

I give it until the 2nd week in November until I get the winter blues.

What do we reckon?

YABVUI : you are being very unreasonable indeed!

Poofus · 27/08/2014 22:48

Hmm at innit. Grin

I live in Lincolnshire. We have definitely had better summers. Last year was hotter. That said we've had far worse too. I can do with several months of wall to wall sunshine which many people seem to find too much. I find it odd when people say things like "ooh you don't want it to be too hot for your holiday" when actually I do want it to be hot and dry. I appreciate the need for seasons and will put up with them but summer is the best by far. Grey drizzle is miserable.

Latara · 27/08/2014 22:48

YABVVU I want summer back :(

MmeMorrible · 27/08/2014 22:50

YABNU, love Winter, can't wait to light the fire and enjoy cosy evenings beside it.

atticusclaw · 27/08/2014 22:52

Lincolnshire is not far from me. I'm in north notts. This summer has been amazing here compared to last year. I work from home and work in the garden whenever its nice. I've barely been indoors until the past couple of weeks.

Anyway, off topic, bring on the dark nights, cosy fires and snuggling.

Bakersbum · 27/08/2014 22:52

Yanbu I love winter, very excited to feel a little nip in the air.

Always feel a bit disappointed if the good weather comes back for a few weeks. I like summer whilst it's happening, but ready for autumn by august.

phonebox · 27/08/2014 22:52

I like weather to be WEATHER. I don't mind a couple of days where it sheets it down, if we can have a couple of weeks of lovely sunny high-20s temps (which we had in July). I'd rather have snow than grey drizzle. I'd rather have clear, crisp days rather than this strange, muggy, grey twilight-world.

BreadForBrains · 27/08/2014 23:16

Yanbu, this current weather is pathetic. Make your bloody mind up!
We have just had a cord (?) of wood delivered for the fire. Oh, and I have a heated steering wheel Wink
I love the summer, when it's properly summer, but having seasons is glorious. I look forward to them all. As much as I love the heat, proper heat, I look forward to Autumn, winter boots and layers. And then winter. January can just fuck right off though. Obviously.

AlpacaYourThings · 27/08/2014 23:20

YANBU, I bloody LOVE winter!

TheFillyjonk · 27/08/2014 23:27

Like Bread, I like all the seasons but I do prefer autumn and winter. I love coats, jackets, jumpers, hats... And GLOVES! I'm a Raynauds sufferer and it's much easier to get away with much-needed gloves in colder weather (I have been known to wear them in July, if necessary). I also love being out on a chilly night with some mulled wine or hot chocolate. It feels so much more exciting and alive in autumn and winter.

MrsPennyapple · 27/08/2014 23:28

We've had a nice hot, sunny, Summer, and now I don't mind it getting cooler. I'm rubbish at Summer cooking anyway, you can only eat so much salad, give me a nice chicken stew any day. Plus, I don't have any decent summer clothes. I'm just better at dealing with cooler weather.

To be fair though, I like nice chilly, crisp, crunchy leaves Autumn. Damp, soggy, murky-for-months-on-end Autumn is much less pleasant.

TheFillyjonk · 27/08/2014 23:30

Yes MsPennyapple, you've described the romanticism of autumn and the real autumn (at least, in London). I still always get excited when this time of year rolls around.

Another thing I love about autumn and winter is the food. Don't get me wrong, I love fresh barbecues and salads but hot food is oh-so satisfying when it's cold.

MrsPennyapple · 27/08/2014 23:37

And I hate sun cream. Slimy, sticky, clammy, nasty stuff.

IPityThePontipines · 27/08/2014 23:43

I love all the seasons, but I do especially like cosy dark nights.

Here's a nice winter song to get you in the mood:

TheFillyjonk · 27/08/2014 23:50

Very wintry, Pontipines!

My DP is currently trying to write a Christmas single so we've been subjected to all kinds of wintry vibes. I like dark and moody winter songs best. Grin

TwelveGrimmauldPlace · 28/08/2014 00:04

Yanbu

I love winter, it's by far my favourite month.

I find it easier to heat up than cool down.

I love cosy nights in, heating on, dressing gown on, electric blanket and good movies on TV.

I love it all until I get my electricity and gas bill in.... Grin

atticusclaw · 28/08/2014 11:36

My heated throw has arrived. It is truly amazing. I am sitting at my desk with it wrapped around me and the DCs keep trying to sneak in! Costs pennies to run too so should save on the heating bills.

I think it is my favourite thing ever.

Curlyweasel · 28/08/2014 11:45

YANBU. Winter is much better for those of us who are a little ahem chubby - I can switch back to 60 denier tights and my body curtains thank you very much.

comedycentral · 28/08/2014 12:23

I love autumn and winter too YANBU!

blueshoes · 28/08/2014 12:50

I hate winter. I hate the short days, getting up and going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Argh.

I can do autumn and winter but for the short days.

NoImSpartacus · 28/08/2014 12:51

I love the winter too, but only when it's sunny and cold, I hate 'nothing' weather like at the moment, I'm an all or nothing person, I like extremes. I hope it gets really cold this winter, I love getting cosy at home and also wrapping up in chunky cardis and jumper dresses and lovely solid leather boots! AND you can get away with carrying a couple of extra pound in the winter Grin

dancestomyowntune · 28/08/2014 13:08

i love winter. especially when its freezing cold and crisp. i love snow, ice, i love love love it!!! in fact i think i have SADS in reverse! Grin

Xenadog · 28/08/2014 13:59

Love, love, love Autumn and am keen on winter up until New Year and then it all seems a bit crap as there isn't anything to look forward to. Can we please skip January through to the start of April and carry on from there?

asmallandnoisymonkey · 28/08/2014 21:51

Winter is the best season BY FAR.
