My 14yr old says 'kk' 'yy' 'yh'...kk in particular drives me mad, just how much time does it save??

Oh and Ting and Dat, and also Anat instead of 'and that'

And don't even get me started on 'gotten' 'I'm good' etc!

Happyringo · 29/08/2014 07:54

Oh and of course every sentence has 'like' in it many many times....

Thumbwitch · 29/08/2014 08:26

Natch was in my ancient jumble-sale acquired Jackie annual, c. 1967 (or was it Girl? Dunno, could've been)

I don't mind some - I even use some myself, like obvs, dunno, innit. Usually ironically. Wink

I do hate whatevs, wid, u, ur (WHY? why not use yr?) and other txtspk versions.

I also hate YOLO. And lol used as punctuation, especially inappropriately.

MaMaPo - the Aussies where I live use rellos, not rellies. They defo go to see rellos in the arvo with their beer from the bottle-o, after picking up some sausages for the sausage sizzle. So far I've not heard a single Aussie use the word "snags" - which is kind of disappointing! :(
They do say "barbie" though. So all is not lost. Wink

legspinner YES versing drives me crazy! (Perth)

dustwhatdust · 30/08/2014 10:36

UNI as in ' are you off to Uni ?'
It's university not uni !

Jux · 30/08/2014 11:51

Oh. My. God. Shock

I have hardly come across any of these (except the ones used in 'Miranda' by that woman, and they're definitiely taking the piss out of people who use those words.) YOLO? YOLO??!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaargh

Fubsy · 30/08/2014 11:55

It was Uni 33 years ago when it was made very clear to me I was attending college, not Uni and therefore could not use the University college union.

GreenShadow · 03/09/2014 17:20

Talking of abbreviations, I'm afraid there are loads used on MN which bug me. (Strangely, most seem to apply to clothing)

Cardi - I never see cardigan written now
PJs - Likewise. They are pyjamas
Uni (as above, although when I went in early 80s I never remember it being called this)(but I am actually coming round to this one)
Joggers - we all them tracksuit trousers

I'm sure there are more, but they are just 'off top of my head' ones.

FriendlyLadybird · 03/09/2014 17:29

I love all kinds of slang. It was funny when my 6 y-o DD told my DH he was "Totes hilaire." I don't know where she got it from.

weebleknievel · 08/09/2014 20:37

Apologies in advance as I haven't RTFT yet, just the first page.

I don't mind people using "spag bol", I prefer it to "spaghetti bolognaise" which never seems to look right. Isn't it "Bolognese"?

My most hated word is hun it's just awful
