Natch = naturally.

I initially thought it was something to do with nachos Blush.

steff13 · 27/08/2014 00:31

Natch = naturally. You'd use it on place of "of course.". I think that one was common around here in the 80s.

MardyBra · 27/08/2014 00:33

I thought natch was around 5-10 years ago. some of you were probably at school

temporaryusername · 27/08/2014 00:33

Naturally? I had no idea what that meant. I thought it meant 'aw shucks' or 'gotcha' or something.

ICanSeeTheSun · 27/08/2014 00:35

Natch was a slag word for vagina/labia when I was younger

MardyBra · 27/08/2014 00:38

Isn't that snatch?

ICanSeeTheSun · 27/08/2014 00:41

Perhaps but maybe shortened.

MardyBra · 27/08/2014 00:41

Tbh I don't know anyone who uses any of these expressions. Nor even my teenage dd. With whom are you mixing OP? Wink

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/08/2014 01:11

YOLO = carpe diem for stupid people. Urban Dictionary. I use totes amazeballs ironically. I live in Canada so no one else says it. Yet. I should stop.

Skinheadmermaid · 27/08/2014 01:12

I hate it when people on mn say 'pots' instead of potatos.
Me & dh both says 'totes amaze' if we're taking the piss out of something. It is awful.

JustDontWantToSay · 27/08/2014 01:15

Pots! POTS! For some reason this is killing me. Pots! LOL

I do have a tote bag with a picture of a goat on it that says, "Totes McGoats." I think it's funny.

MaMaPo · 27/08/2014 04:03

The PP who hates 'rellies' and 'pressies' should avoid Australians (sorry, Aussies) at all costs.

Because this arvo I'm taking the ute down to the bottle-o to buy some wine as a pressie for one of my rellies.

NinjaLeprechaun · 27/08/2014 04:28

My daughter says 'whatev' in order to convey that she's so unimpressed she can't even be bothered with the entire word.
Which I personally think is a rather delightful and creative use of the language. When it's not being used against me, anyway. Wink

Then again, she obviously is, and associates with, the better class of teenagers.
I'm kind of fond of the ironic/mocking phrase "hashtag YOLO", which usually follows a description of particularly undesirable behaviour, by which you can tell exactly what they think of those who actually say things like that and mean them.

One of my favourite things about the English language is how malleable it is. I'm a big fan of dialects, and this is just a modern dialect. I'm prone to lapse into Netspeak myself, to be honest.

GarlicAugustus · 27/08/2014 04:57

God, I said natch quite a bit in the 80s. I write obvs in posts & tweets (well, obv in tweets to save a character. You have to be econ.)

I'm far too old to get away with hashtag this, that or t'other - which is a shame, because I LOVE it! It's the kind of compact, ironic social commentary all teenagers aspire to. My teens were so long ago, I can't even remember the cool catchphrases - or the uncool ones that were ironically hijacked. Yolo, but for quite a long time as it turns out.

I'm so eighties I still do air quotes Blush Grin

Tangoandcreditcards · 27/08/2014 05:25

The announcer on Sky has started saying "eps" instead of episodes, makes me want to stop wTching TV altogether...

Tangoandcreditcards · 27/08/2014 05:25

Oh and YANBU

ScrambledEggAndToast · 27/08/2014 06:59

I never knew what natch meant until today, thanks peeps Wink Grin

Luxaroma · 27/08/2014 07:04

My dcs use lots of those words but the only one which boils my piss is defo....no idea why this give me the rage but it just does!

HemlockStarglimmer · 27/08/2014 07:06

My mother used 'natch' when I was a child so it's been around for at least 50 years.

cherrybombxo · 27/08/2014 07:17

I hate all of the above but I'll also add 'abso', as in 'that was abso amazeballs'.

Shudder.

coolaschmoola · 27/08/2014 07:22

Super amazing. Super sunny. Super expensive.

Super irritating! Angry

ElPolloDiabolo · 27/08/2014 07:24

bayrans · 27/08/2014 07:31

Hate. Hate. Hate.

Just write/type an extra 3 letters FFS. And woe betide anyone that actually uses lil as a word.
