I get that it's all for a good cause etc. and I'm hiding peoples' videos left, right and centre on FB. But I want no part in it thanks. Mentioned to DH earlier how they're all getting right on my tits now, and how no-one I knew would nominate me because they're all far too sensible. Hmm And then my sister nominates me. FFS. I just replied that I wouldn't be donating anything to anyone nor throwing anything over my head, thanks. And now she's getting huffy with me. Am just going to ignore, now. Next week it will be some other silly craze.

Just wanted to moan, I like moaning. Grin

An 18-year-old man has died in what is believed to be an ice bucket challenge in Iverkeithing, Fife.

Tabby1963 · 25/08/2014 18:45

Sigh, I to am living in fear of being nominated. I regularly donate and support charities in my own way, and privately. I don't want to be seen as a kill-joy by not participating, but it is ridiculous. OP, you are right to ignore her, hopefully she'll have forgotten by next week.

Bearbehind · 25/08/2014 18:46

I know things like neck-nomination can be dangerous but how the feck can you die from having a bucket of cold water thrown over you???

Totally agree that the whole phenomenon it is irritating though.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 25/08/2014 18:46

They are getting boring now.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2014 18:47

He did it at a quarry and fell in.

I have not been nominated which is good as would not do it. We have no garden or access to one and no freezer space to make ice.

I just gave the charity money.

Fixerupperz · 25/08/2014 18:48

Im sick of the whole loook at meeee im doing something for charity zzzzz.
Half the people on my fb havent donated and dont even know what the cause is Confused

CaractacusPotts · 25/08/2014 18:50

Oh FFS - this 'ridiculous' and 'boring' trend has raised over $30 million for a charity which raised less that $2 million last year!

If you don't want to so it fine.

If you don't want to donate that's also fine!

But to be public ally complaining annout raising money and awareness for a horrible shitty disease is just twattish!!

LEMmingaround · 25/08/2014 18:51

Bear its perfectly feasible if you have an unknown heart condition.

No one had better nominate me. I donate enough to charity. Although i do feel macmillan is a good cause.

I don't understand it. Are people doing this so they don't have to donate ? So you are basically saying id rather have a bucket of ice thrown over me than donate a couple of quid to charity. Have i got that right

CaractacusPotts · 25/08/2014 18:51

And clearly I need English lessons!!

Summerisle1 · 25/08/2014 18:53

There are various reasons why I don't intend to be pressurised into taking the ice bucket challenge. I don't plan to say anything publicly on FB though. Instead I plan to ignore any challenges or indeed any follow-up challenges. If I choose to donate to the cause then I'll be doing so privately.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 25/08/2014 18:54

I should be OK not to be nominated as I dont think Im the top of anyone's list of people who they first think about. Im quite happy to give to charity as and when I feel, but I dont agree with being forced into it or forced into doing something for charity when you really dont want to, then again I suppose a lot of the people/things that are helped with charities dont really want to be in that situation.

Anyway I dont agree with forcing people to give or do anything for charity, it should be something you want to do if that is the case and not something you are forced to do.

Also if the original deal was either donate or pour iced water over yourself then there are a lot of people not donating and just getting cold. Id rather donate to a charity of my choosing.

At least its not these stupid cryptic status's about bra size, lottery winnings or game shows etc.

PitchSlapped · 25/08/2014 18:54

Theyre doing it to raise awareness of ALS/ motor neurone disease.

Its not actually compulsory and nobody is going to care whether you do it or not

LiveAndLetDie · 25/08/2014 18:55

CaractacusPotts I'm not complaining about raising money for charity. Hmm I complaining about being nominated for something which I want no part in, never asked to be a part of, and because I refused to either donate or throw water over myself Hmm she's in a huff with me. Also most of the people on my FB are throwing water over themselves and then not donating. Not one of them have mentioned the ALS charity that it was originally for and I think most of them don't even know what it is, they're just jumping on the bandwagon and posting for attention.

OP posts:
gingerbubs · 25/08/2014 18:55

The young guy in fife apparently jumped into a flooded quarry after doing the ice bucket thing. Got into trouble and drowned. Very sad.
I normally don't engage in things like this but have a soft spot for 'underdog' charities and conditions so have done it. Wouldn't think badly of anyone who ignored it.

Timeforabiscuit · 25/08/2014 18:56

I think its more that people will do something silly once given the thinnest premise to do so.

gingerbubs · 25/08/2014 18:57

Oh and I did it and donated!

ScouseBird8364 · 25/08/2014 18:57

YANBU and thank fuck I'm not alone in my thoughts! Hmm

Honestly, if I had a good amount of money, I WOULD donate to certain charities, probably Cancer Research and Stroke Association but in my opinion and especially in this day and age, charity begins at home.

Why aren't the likes of Cheryl Cole doing it? People who have money to burn?

Plus, ALS org test on animals Hmm

LiveAndLetDie · 25/08/2014 18:59

ScouseBird8364 that's why Pamela Anderson refused to take part because they test on animals. And good on her, as a vegetarian that would be my stance too. Although I'm mostly refusing to take part because I refuse to be a sheep and forced to donate to something when actually I'm fucking on the bones of my arse.

OP posts:
Darkesteyes · 25/08/2014 19:02

Pamela Anderson refused to do it because of the animal testing and because of it has had a lot of mysogynistic comments about her put up on Twitter.

I knew there would be bullying involved somewhere. People should only do it if they want to.

I will be donating but i wont be doing the ice bucket itself.

Darkesteyes · 25/08/2014 19:02

x posted with Live.

Darkesteyes · 25/08/2014 19:06

Live and Let Die. Im glad youve brought that up. Ive seen on several news feeds the choice is to do the challenge and donate £3 OR dont and donate £10 (in the US its $100) People on JSA and zero hours contracts arent going to have much of a choice are they.

Sorry for hijack

wanttosinglikemarycoughlan · 25/08/2014 19:09

I hate it too its like the bare face thing - oh how brave they all were going without make-up Hmm
Facebook turns people into sheep

junkfoodaddict · 25/08/2014 19:12

Not doing it! Also do not want to be a sheep with an increased appetite for glorification because I did something silly and make people like me because I donated to charity.
I donate to charity but I do so when I have the money, when I want to and certainly NOT when I feel under pressure because I have been nominated on FB. I will untag myself.

picnicbasketcase · 25/08/2014 19:12

I'm clicking 'I don't want to see this' quite a lot and would ignore it if anyone nominated me. But it would be rude if I just posted a status telling people it's a bunch of crap because at least it's raising money.

simontowers2 · 25/08/2014 19:13

I'm with Pamela anderson. And, yes, FB is full of sheep. Sheep and tiresome show-offs.
