I get that it's all for a good cause etc. and I'm hiding peoples' videos left, right and centre on FB. But I want no part in it thanks. Mentioned to DH earlier how they're all getting right on my tits now, and how no-one I knew would nominate me because they're all far too sensible. Hmm And then my sister nominates me. FFS. I just replied that I wouldn't be donating anything to anyone nor throwing anything over my head, thanks. And now she's getting huffy with me. Am just going to ignore, now. Next week it will be some other silly craze.

Just wanted to moan, I like moaning. Grin

If anyone is interested in learning more about Motor neurone disease, I recently watched a film/documentary about the last months of a man's life. The film was called 'I am breathing' and was about an architect called Neil platt who died from this horrible disease.

It was on film 4 towards the end of last year and I only got round to watching it a few weeks ago. In the film Neil stated he was making the film in order to highlight MND, he had a very young son and he clearly hoped some advance in research would save his son from the disease. I think his own father had died from it as well. I guess he would have welcomed anything that drew attention to MND and helped raise money for research.

I had heard of the ice bucket challenge but did not know what it was about, which is why I clicked on this thread, and it reminded me of the film.

It was hard to watch, he was very courageous in facing the horrors of the illness.

I was bah humbug about the whole thing but then got nominated. Would be churlish not to do it. Plus the kids enjoyed throwing water and ice cubes over me. Donation to MND not Macmillan.

I thought the toddler swearing was funny. Shoot me.

My aunt died of MND last year.
I have been so pleased to see the money and awareness being raised for the illness that killed her
She was wrongly diagnosed up until the month before she died. Hopefully more money and awareness will prevent others going through what she and her family had to put up with in the two years before her death

Soon FB will be full of cats in outfits again
Please support MND

As pp said my fb is several people saying "I'm doing the ALS ice bucket challenge. Don't forget to donate to Macmillan."

This has only just started to appear on my Facebook.

I don't get the angst. If I'm nominated I will ignore it. I have no intention of dousing myself in cold water just because someone else thinks it's a good idea, and I already donate a monthly amount to a chosen charity. If I donate to every charity that comes to my attention in any way, I'll be skint.

If anyone gets the arse with me about it, I will delete them from Facebook, and chalk up a mental note to remember that they're a bit of a twat.

trixymalixy · 27/08/2014 09:50

All four of us got nominated. I was a bit Hmm about it, but actually it was a lot of fun all doing it, the kids loved it and MND Scotland got some cash.

Cats in outfits. I would be tempted by that one! Grin

Theyre doing it to raise awareness of ALS/ motor neurone disease.

that's the trouble though, I don't think it does really raise awareness of it, it raises peoples awarenesss of people chucking buckets of ice water over themselves. I get it's all for a good cause but it's also a big waste of water and lots of people in the world have trouble getting clean water to drink, never mind chuck about!

Also, it's getting a bit mad (no...beyond mad) when people are standing in them middle of a very busy road, on a chair, and doing the challenge .FFS?? This is what I witnessed at the weekend, how it didn't cause an accident I don't know.

RonaldMcDonald · 27/08/2014 17:54

Shady

most people had never heard of als/mnd now a large bunch of people are aware of it.

Even if as you say they are not aware of it they have raised huge amounts of money which will help medical professionals have better training and allow MND to do more research and fund events to raise consciousness

I ignore swathes of things that help no one. Perhaps we could keep our collective ire down to a minimum over this...?
