Monsoon Dress buttons caught in DD hair

Hello. I am trying to find out if anyone one else has had a similar problem with a monsoon summer dress. The dress has tiny square buttons down the back and when my daughter wore it to her birthday party on Saturday her hair became entangled badly enough that I had to cut it away from the buttons. I have been complaining to monsoon and they have assured me that the dress was tested but were unable and possibly unwilling to tell me how this was done with a child with long hair. My daughter's hair is quite long and it was French plaited with the length of the plait coming down the middle of her back so it was testing on the buttons. I think there is nothing unusual about the my 8yr ( she was 8 on Sunday, this dress is age 9 because my daughter is very tall, she has size 3.5 feet ) old having this hair style.

Monsoon were quick to tell me that no one else has complained. IN interested in trying to find other people that have had similar clothing issues. Has anyone ?!

(also if there is a better place to place this please tell me !)

yes, why are you focusing on this. is your dd ok?

sounds like you are projecting on this issue, and i'm not trying to do the old psycho stuff.

it really really isn't worth this intensity. things happen, there is 'danger' everywhere. Hair can get caught in zips too. Birthday candles can set fire to hair, um and a zillion other accidents can happen with long hair.

SaucyJack · 20/08/2014 10:37

Perhaps the dress was tested on animals instead of humans?

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 20/08/2014 10:38

I love the detail about her age and shoe size consisted to the age size of the dress.

Do make sure you include that in your complaint letter.

vestandknickers · 20/08/2014 10:38

That should be with my daughter's loom band.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/08/2014 10:38

Though this could be the perfect opportunity for a daily mail sad face!

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 20/08/2014 10:38

Compared to. Fuck this phone.

Pagwatch · 20/08/2014 10:38

Monsoon don't need to test to understand that long hair gets caught on buttons.
It's like knowing that pavements are a bit more slippery when it's icy.

I really hope they haven't spent money on 'long hair catches on buttons and bears shit in the woods ' research

Droflove · 20/08/2014 10:38

A bit OTT OP to be complaining about this one. Do you think buttons should be banned by the health and safety regulator? You posted in AIBU so im gonna have to go with yes.

LadyLuck10 · 20/08/2014 10:38

Try the DM, you might get the headline.

wowfudge · 20/08/2014 10:39

Is this for real?! Come on - we've all got tangled up in some way in something at some point. I've got jewellery caught on buttons and on bags, etc.: who do you suggest I complain to, the jewellery manufacturer or the bag maker?

It's not as if cutting away some hair has scarred your daughter - the hair will grow back.

Just don't buy her clothes with buttons down the back until she has shorter hair. Tbh I don't understand how, if her hair was plaited, she managed to get it so tangled that you had to cut it away anyway.

I'm amazed that you think this is the fault of the retailer - what were you expecting them to do/say?

fourforksache · 20/08/2014 10:39

clearly the problem lies with the evil bastard who gave you that dress. they're jealous of your daughter's hair and want it to end up cropped. Wink

Roussette · 20/08/2014 10:40

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece I just choked on my coffee reading that! Grin
(don't worry, I won't sue !)

vestandknickers · 20/08/2014 10:40

I bet they're having a right giggle at Monsoon!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/08/2014 10:40

Actually, come to think of it, I had a chunk cut out of my hair when my friends DS got his hand caught in my v thick and curly hair.

I'm interested to find out how she'll prevent this from happening to another individual

manchestermummy · 20/08/2014 10:40

If it's Monsoon there is no way any hair should get caught. It is simply much better quality.

DD1 got her hair caught in a blouse from H and M once. I am clearly negligent.

Hmm

OP you are getting a lot of stick here, which is unfortunate, but YABreallyreallyU to think that Monsoon buttons - which I daresay are probably the same as George buttons, heaven forfend - are superior and immune to getting hair caught.

MardyBra · 20/08/2014 10:40

Grin at testing procedures.

I would have thought the buttons were a pretty design feature. It would have been spoilt by putting a zip instead.

Look, OP, with the best will in the world, this could get silly. MN is telling you this is a non-issue. Please try not to waste any more anxiety over it.

Pagwatch · 20/08/2014 10:41

Links of London charm bracelets get caught in hair.
It's like living life on the edge in my house. Sometimes I go out in a dress with buttons on and a charm bracelet. Living' on the edge just for the rush.

LEMmingaround · 20/08/2014 10:41

Can you imagine that the sales staff are briefed in the manufacture of these products. I'll tell you. A poor child in vietnam or similar poor country will have stitched it together for about 2 pence. Quality control will give the buttons a tug and prob check for trailing threads. That is what they do.

I can imagine the shop assistant was sheepish because she was thinking wtaf?? Ah well, at least you will have given them something to snigger over in coffee break.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 20/08/2014 10:41

Sorry I totally don't understand your post.

Poofus · 20/08/2014 10:42

It looks like it has those little square buttons, which in my experience are a PITA for getting tangled in things. Still not really sure it can be blamed on Monsoon though.

Hakluyt · 20/08/2014 10:44

Admit it, OP, your MIL gave her the dress.......Grin

OwlCapone · 20/08/2014 10:44

It had buttons. Many clothes have buttons. What, exactly, do you expect them to do?

I doubt there has to be specific testing to see if hair would get caught - it had buttons, of course long hair can get caught on them. Any "entanglement" testing is to make sure there's no choking hazard, surely?

What will knowing what their testing entails actually do for you?

You say you would expect it to have a concealed zip but you are the one who put the dress on your DD knowing there were buttons.

MrsWinnibago · 20/08/2014 10:44

Odd thread! I once complained to Monsoon though as my DD had some hair accessories in her hair and we got caught in the rain...we got home, got changed and then she lay down on an expensive linen pillow...and the colours all ran onto the pillow! I had a right old moan and they send me some vouchers. Couldn't replace my pillow though.

manchestermummy · 20/08/2014 10:45

I wonder, is this some sort of stealth boast? "All of her Monsoon clothing"?

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 20/08/2014 10:45

Lol pagwatch!

I'm just jealous because I can't afford to shop in Monsoon
