Monsoon Dress buttons caught in DD hair

Hello. I am trying to find out if anyone one else has had a similar problem with a monsoon summer dress. The dress has tiny square buttons down the back and when my daughter wore it to her birthday party on Saturday her hair became entangled badly enough that I had to cut it away from the buttons. I have been complaining to monsoon and they have assured me that the dress was tested but were unable and possibly unwilling to tell me how this was done with a child with long hair. My daughter's hair is quite long and it was French plaited with the length of the plait coming down the middle of her back so it was testing on the buttons. I think there is nothing unusual about the my 8yr ( she was 8 on Sunday, this dress is age 9 because my daughter is very tall, she has size 3.5 feet ) old having this hair style.

Monsoon were quick to tell me that no one else has complained. IN interested in trying to find other people that have had similar clothing issues. Has anyone ?!

(also if there is a better place to place this please tell me !)

Well at least you know in future to only buy clothes with zips on the back.

I think you'll find that clothing safety tests don't test for hair entanglement.

LingDiLong · 20/08/2014 10:32

But loads if dresses have buttons down the back? I wouldn't say zips are the norm and buttons unusual at all. If it's such an obvious design flaw why did you buy it? And I ask again what do you want monsoon to do?

crookedwindow · 20/08/2014 10:32

I didn't buy it, it was a gift

"Monsoon were quick to tell me no one else has complained" because really, who would? Now don't get me wrong i am the complaining queen and often get a voucher or two but you kinda have to be justified in your complaint.

Maybe complain to the hair dresser for leaving whispy bits in your dd's hair.

crookedwindow · 20/08/2014 10:33

I called to ask them specifically about the testing procedure and they wouldn't tell me.

Well life's full of surprises then OP!
Happens to me occasionally.

Just one of those things.

LingDiLong · 20/08/2014 10:33

But if you don't want monsoon to do anything why are you persuing a complaint with them?

Helloandhowdoyoudo · 20/08/2014 10:34

Wow - thats all I can say!!

Op if this is stressing you out and you are outraged you live a very charmed life!!

LingDiLong · 20/08/2014 10:34

Sorry keep cross posting

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/08/2014 10:34

I think a petition should be started attthe very minimum. Failing that a boycott. With placrads and a brazier and fingerless gloves. Outside all the stores.

Roussette · 20/08/2014 10:34

I'm glad I don't work at Monsoon and had to deal with this compaint! (I might have got the sack!)

I think I've heard it all now. Long hair gets tangled in things; if it's a problem get your DD's hair cut or let her wear a onesie without a zip of course - just in case

HatieKokpins · 20/08/2014 10:34

Maddest. Thread. Ever.

crookedwindow · 20/08/2014 10:35

I didn't buy it, it was a gift. I want to know about the testing procedures, that is what I want from monsoon.

OP posts:
fourforksache · 20/08/2014 10:35

hair can get stuck in zips too. that's just life.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/08/2014 10:35

And chestnuts.

Yum chestnuts.

EduCated · 20/08/2014 10:35

Yesterday I managed to trap myself in bed by lying in my own hair in such a position that I couldn't move to release it. I had to call DP to release me Blush

It's just one of the hazards of long hair. I et mine tangled on anything and everything. No you've realised that buttons may be an issue, perhaps go for things with zips/concealed buttons instead.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 20/08/2014 10:35

There probably isn't a specific testing procedure for long hair getting tangled in buttons. Maybe they should put a warning on the dress along the lines of "Warning: long hair may get tangled in buttons" (joke).

Fact: long hair gets tangled in buttons, and sometimes in zips too. OP - you are being ridiculous - get a life!

fourforksache · 20/08/2014 10:36

put her hair in buns or other up-do's.

LEMmingaround · 20/08/2014 10:36

A gift??? Who gave it to her? The hair sabotaging bastards!!

Seriously though. I hope your dd wasnt too traumatised. My dd is nine and any hair issues result in blood curdling screams. Im surprised we haven't had visit from social services.

flipchart · 20/08/2014 10:36

So you wanted to know about their testing procedures.
Then what were you going to do with that information,
Seriously OP let it go.

vestandknickers · 20/08/2014 10:37

I put my hair up my daughter's loom band yesterday. Bot tangled to buggery.

My daughter got a strongly worded letter of complaint from me this morning.

Thenapoleonofcrime · 20/08/2014 10:37

But even if it was tested with, say, my dd's long hair, it wouldn't be tied back and it would be about shoulder length. Your dd's hair may be a different type, length, a plait etc- what do you want them to do, test it on every single hairstyle a girl might wear?

Long hair and buttons/zips/jewellery entangle.

You didn't pay for the dress, you haven't lost anything, she knows not to wear it again unless the hair is up or she's prepared for the buttons to tangle.

LingDiLong · 20/08/2014 10:37

But why do you want to know about testing procedures? How would that help exactly? The only way to prevent this happening again to anyone else would be to ban buttons completely which would be a bit bonkers surely...

Merel · 20/08/2014 10:37

I've lost count of the number of times I've had things tangled in my hair. I can't imagine you would get very far with this claim, maybe if you wear them down enough you might get a discount voucher or something. I would forget about it personally.

Roussette · 20/08/2014 10:37

Why should Monsoon tell you about their testing procedures? They don't have to.
